Winix is developing in such a way no other air purifier brands could match. The company has invented and manufactured a number of air purifiers that equal even the native air purifier brand – Honeywell. For an international brand that live for 30 years, Winix knows where it should put all the effort into, the low-range budget market. And the Winix P150 is a start of something with decent performance, but slashes the price nearly in half of its brothers. Now, it’s time for our Winix P150 Review.
Winix P150 Price
The best part of budget devices is when newer devices are available, the price of old ones will be on sale immediately. Moreover, in the world of air purifiers, you don’t need to keep up with the latest models, as the old machines still beat their hearts like nothing happened. The user experience remains the same, at least for now.
Winix kicked off its global air purifier entry with the keenly priced Winix P150, which was quickly followed by the Winix P300 and Winix P450. Fun fact is, the company named its air purifiers in FresHome family in the same way as the Fellowes did with its AeraMax air purifiers, like the AeraMax 100, AeraMax 200 and AeraMax 300. That is, the number is for the AHAM verified room size of this air purifier. In the case of the Winix P150, it is only for a room of 150 square feet.
First things first then, the Winix P150’s price. You can buy it right now on sale on the official Winix website for only $119, which is $50 less for the launched price. However, it is discontinued, along with its brothers.
With this price, the Winix P150 is now the most affordable air purifier of this brand, cheaper than even the trio of Winix 5300-2, Winix 5500-2 and Winix C535. But with such a limited fan power, the Winix P150 is no match for its brothers, especially when they are the Amazon’s Choices for air purifier at the time of writing.
And counting the competitors, there are a lot of air purifier brands with a great price to buy out there. Certainly the Levoit LV-H132 and GermGuardian AC5250PT are the most popular options, with True HEPA filters. Also, you can enjoy the SilverOnyx with a 5-stage air cleaning system, or even lower the price to buy the GermGuardian AC4900CA with greater fan power than even the Winix P150. Perhaps that’s why Winix needs the new air purifier, in the name of Winix A230, to compete with such tough competition.
Winix P150 FresHome Model with True HEPA Air Cleaner with PlasmaWave.
The most affordable Winix air purifier, with 3-stage air cleaning system. It effectively removes a broad range of allergens including: dust, smoke, pollen, odors, pet dander, mold spores and organic chemicals. Energy Star rating.

Winix P150 Design and Size
You always need a pioneer for everything, and the Winix P150 is the start of design concept for the Winix P300 and later, Winix U300 of the Signature Series. But the design concept is plain, and I have nothing to praise or complain about such common design like this air purifier.
The Winix P150 is mostly made of plastic, and yes, this is the material for every air purifier in the low-range bracket. The white color option is brighter when painted on the plastic body, and the finishing of the Winix P150 is good.
For the size, the Winix P150 is only 18.5 inches in height and 14 inches in width. This air purifier is smaller than even the Winix C545, and you should put it on a table to reach the control panel comfortably.
On the front of this air purifier, you will see a normal plate to hide the air intake grills. This is the concept of many modern air purifiers like the Levoit LV-PUR131 and Philips 2000i. The back of this air purifier is big enough to hold the fan inside, and staying on the top of this Winix P150 is the air outlet grill. Just like all of Winix air purifiers, the Winix P150 sports the bottom-to-top airflow system.
On top of this Winix P150, we have the typical lean-on-front display control panel. It is the sign to tell one Winix air purifier from other brands, and as you can see, it is quite simple.

It is confusing that Winix gives us a very inconvenient handle for the Winix P150. Fortunately, the Winix P150 is only 11 lbs and I think you won’t find any trouble to move it around your home.

Winix P150 Filters
Winix P150 is a budget air purifier, yes, but it won’t compromise without the signature PlasmaWave technology of this brand. So to say, we will have the common 3-stage air cleaning system in the Winix P150, which is the same with the Winix 5300-2 and Winix 5500-2.
- Pre-filter – The polluted air must pass through a built-in pre-filter. This pre-filter will help capture the large objects of contaminants, such as pet hair and even some kinds of pet dander and skin. The pre-filter is also attached with an Activated Carbon filter to help reduce the pet odors and smoke, as well as some common household chemicals.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter that captures 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles.
- Winix PlasmaWave – This technology is one kind of ionizer, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.
I hope that you have experienced enough air purifiers from Winix in Breathe Quality. The combination of True HEPA filter is clearly the selling point for every Winix air purifiers, and the Winix P150 is not an exception. You will enjoy the fresh air in the Winix P150 much likely the same as you use the more expensive devices, like the Winix WAC9500 or Winix HR900.

On the negative side, it is still a type of ionizer, and I’ve heard many reviews that the PlasmaWave can irritate asthma and breathing issues. However, my testing unit doesn’t release any ozone at all, so there is no way to tell if the reviews are false alarm or not.
For the performance of this Winix P150, I set up a much simple test in a room of 100 square feet with full of pollutants. I also used the Whirlpool WPT60, VEVA 8000 Elite Pro and the AeraMax 100 to compare with the performance of this Winix P150, so you can decide which is your best pick for the price. As the result, after one hour of running, the Winix P150 had the efficiency of 99.92% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns, which was just a little bit lower than the VEVA 8000 Elite Pro. Others like AeraMax 100 and Whirlpool WPT60 only scored 99.8%.
Winix P150 continues the tradition of Winix to offer the filter replacement with high price, and it could be the most obstacle to hold you from buying this air purifier. The HEPA filter can only last for 1 year, and with the price of $59, you will like the AeraMax 200 (with $42) or the Honeywell HPA200 (with $49) more. I always search for the best deal to you, and right now, the filter cost is only $35 if you get it here.

Winix P150 Room Coverage
In the most affordable air purifier of Winix is just a small fan, and I don’t expect much from the room coverage of this air purifier. As its name implies, the Winix P150 is only for a room of 150 square feet. If you need an air purifier for more room coverage, you need to opt-in for the Winix P300 and Winix P450.
The ACH of Winix P150 is 4X. It means the Winix P150 will clean your room as often as 15 minutes.
The CADR of Winix P150 is 98 Dust/ 98 Smoke/ 103 Pollen (cfm). The CADR rating is quite similar to a more budget GermGuardian AC4825 and SilverOnyx, and you should only use the Winix P150 for a small room.

Winix P150 Sound
Winix is notable for manufacturing the air purifiers with impressively quiet operation. The Winix P150 is even better than most of its brothers, thanks to the low fan power and small size. Its lowest noise level is only 26 decibels, which means the air purifier is even quieter than the whisper.
You can also run this air purifier on highest speed without noticing any annoying sound. The noise level at its highest is only 52 decibels (dB), and in the working environment, it is negligible. So if you plan to use the Winix P150 as your personal desk air purifier in your office, it is highly recommended.

Winix P150 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.
With a smaller size, the Winix P150 is certainly the air purifier with the lowest power consumption of the brand. It has the rated power of only 40 watts, which is similar to the Levoit LV-PUR131 and Honeywell AirGenius 4, and far better than the power consumption of the Winix 5300-2 (70 watts). Finally, we have a great Winix air purifier with Energy Star rating.
For using the Winix P150 8 hours per day, it would cost you only $14 per year.

Winix P150 Additional Features
Smart features is really another selling point of Winix with any other brands. Even in the most budget air purifier, the company doesn’t forget to add the Smart Sensor into it. The Winix P150 is one of the most affordable air purifiers with the built-in air sensor, together with the AeraMax 100 and SilverOnyx.
You don’t know what the Smart Sensor is for? Every time it detects the change in your indoor air quality, it will change the color that matches the current status of air quality. Being green, your indoor air quality is good, but amber is for a fair quality and red is for a poor air quality. Moreover, if you turn on the Auto Mode, the Winix P150 will automatically adjust the fan speed to match the environment. However, this is not a dust sensor, just only the odor sensor. If you require the dust sensor, you need to look for the Winix 5300-2, Winix 5500-2 or Winix C535.

Finally, the Winix P150 offers a filter replacement indicator to remind you when to change the filter. It is convenient, right?

The most affordable Winix air purifier, with 3-stage air cleaning system. It effectively removes a broad range of allergens including: dust, smoke, pollen, odors, pet dander, mold spores and organic chemicals. Energy Star rating.
Our verdict
Maybe the Winix P150 is not such a great option anymore, and it seems it will be unavailable soon. However, it still provides the decent performance for the price, but only when you can’t afford about $30 more for the Winix 5300-2 or Winix 5500-2.
The Winix P150 has been discontinued. I recommend you to take a look at the new Winix A230, which is even more affordable than the P150.
