Winix T1 Air Purifier: Trusted Review & Specs

Combining a great fan power, excellent internal air filters and improved Smart feature credentials over the shadow of low-range army, the Winix T1 (Winix Titan) is truly the high-range capability of this Korean company that stands out among its luxury air purifier rivals. Its strength is tremendous, but the price is far from imagination of any Winix fans. Let’s see if this air purifier is worth your money in this Winix T1 Review.

It was once the flagship of Winix brand, but it is discontinued perhaps because of its sales record. If you can afford this air purifier, the Korean LG PuriCare AS560DWR0 can do everything better. Or else, wait for our next review of the Winix XQ in the future. The Winix XLC, at half of its price, is also a good recommendation.

Winix T1 ranks B in our air purifier ranking list. We give the biggest and most thorough database of air purifier reviews in the world.

Winix is one giant in air purifier industry, and it areas reach beyond the native country of South Korea. Winix established the first headquarter in the United States in 2004, and since then, this brand has been one of the most popular names in the air purifier market, mostly for the low-range devices like the Winix C535, Winix C545 and Winix 5500-2. The Winix T1 is truly a huge leap from the rest, making it a uncertain option. In our Winix T1 Review, we will help you understand why the Winix T1 is worth such a huge sum of money.

Winix T1 Price

Winix wants to play with the big boys. The Korean company wants to be taken seriously as a competitor to the Austin Air, Blueair and IQAir, but right now it’s rooted firmly among the second tier of air purifier manufacturers, competing with the likes of the Honeywell, Coway and Guardian Technologies.

A reputation for pairing high-end specs with lower prices than some of its competitors, backed up with some solid marketing, has enabled Winix to start standing out a little from the crowd. But then the most notable rivals – the Coway and Honeywell has started to dig deep in the high-range market with the Airmega 400S and Molekule Air, Winix knew that it can’t just stop right where it was. And now the company hopes the Winix T1, with all the dream specs in one device, can take Winix to the next level.

But that price? If it can’t impress you, it will shock you a lot. The Winix T1 price is certainly a highlight of this air purifier. With a drop down from the starting price of $1299, to only $999 in the official website of Winix, the Winix T1 isn’t as expensive as the Airpura P600, Blueair Pro XL, Oransi Erik 650A or IQAir GC MultiGas. However, this air purifier still costs you more than the wonderful air purifiers like the Medify MA-125, Rabbit Air A3, Austin Air HealthMate Plus or IQAir HealthPro Plus.

It can also be quite hard to find the air purifier in Amazon right now, so you need to check our deal immediately if you want one Winix T1 right now, especially when the price can go as low as $842.

Winix T1 Design and Size

Do you feel the Winix T1 any familiar? Let me share my opinion, the Winix T1 gives me a feeling as it goes the same way as the IQAir HealthPro Plus. Winix made a point of saying how solid the metal unibody is on the Winix T1, and while there’s no obvious cause for concern in terms of bend-ability I look forward to seeing others applying more pressure to the throne of IQAir air purifiers.

Back to what I said earlier, actually there is no real “unibody” air purifier, because you need to change the air filter from somewhere. But the Winix does sport a premium metal body and it can match the same style and grace of the Swiss air purifiers. The finish is also premium because Winix has chosen to apply or use high-quality materials.

It is not compact, its name – Titan – implies how huge the Winix T1 is. The air purifier is 40 inches in height, which is taller than even the Levoit LV-H134 or GermGuardian AC9400W. Such height makes the Winix T1 more stable and firm than other tower air purifier. I must confess, an air purifier that nearly matches the height of the Blueair Pro XL is amazing.

But the height is not for appearance, as the Winix T1 resembles the IQAir even in the bottom-to-top air flow structure. The polluted air will be pulled in from the big air intake grill at the bottom, through the air filtration process and release out of the 360° air outlet. Winix T1 has something called Gapless filtration to ensure 100% of air must pass the filtration system, which is similar to the 3D Ultra Seal of IQAir GC MultiGas.

On front of this air purifier, there is a LCD control panel that displays the indoor air quality level as well as the functional buttons.

Of course, with the size like this and the metal material, the Winix T1 can’t be as light as the compact air purifiers. In fact, it weighs 57.3 lbs, which is heavier than even the Austin Air Bedroom Machine or Airpura UV600. Without the casters, trying to move this air purifier around your home is really brave, or foolish.

Winix T1 Filters

When checking one high-range air purifier, the most key factor to decide if it is worth your money, obviously, is its air filtration system. To know the performance of one air purifier, normally you will check the quantity of its air filters, as well as what air filter types are used. The Winix T1 is the flagship of a popular brand with 5-stage air cleaning system as below.

  1. Pre-filter – The polluted air must first pass the fine mesh pre-filter, which is washable and can extend the lifetime of remaining filters by removing the large objects of pollutants like hair and skin of pets or humans.
  2. PM 2.5 filter – This is a popular medium filter, which is a PM 2.5 filter that can capture harmful organic compounds that can enter the bloodstream, down to 2.5 microns. It is also coated by the anti-microbial treatment to prevent the growth of mold spores and bacteria on it.
  3. Activated Carbon filter – The AOC carbon filter is able to deal with the pet odor by adsorbing it. This air filter can also deal with the chemicals and VOCs.
  4. True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter that captures 99.97% of down to 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles.
  5. Winix PlasmaWave – This technology is one kind of ionizer, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.

Winix T1 also has the double pre-filtration to strike any medium to large objects of contaminants, just like anything from Austin Air or Rabbit Air MinusA2. The PM 2.5 filter of the Winix T1 is also treated by an anti-microbial coating to help prevent the growth of mold and bacteria on it, and therefore it can last for a longer time, up to 12 months.

For the AOC carbon filter, the Winix T1 is highly efficient against common household odors, smoke, and chemicals. This air filter uses a bed of activated carbon, which can deodorize 90% of methyl mercaptan and 99.5% of sulfur dioxide in the gases.

With the common combination of True HEPA filter and PlasmaWave technology, the Winix T1 can safely remove 99.97% of all airborne particles down to 0.3 microns in size. The PlasmaWave is one kind of ionizer, which can emit both positive and negative ions to create hydroxyls and break the pollutants in molecular level.

Commonly, I hate to make the performance test for the high-range air purifiers like the Winix T1. The result is always near absolute, making a test like this just a waste of our money. Fortunately, I have the result from the previous test with all high-range air purifiers to give you the answer. The high-end Winix T1 performed amazingly, with efficiency of 99.99% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns in a room of 500 square feet.

Sadly, the filter replacement cost of Winix is always the most barrier to keep you away from the wonderful air purifiers. For a high-range device like the Winix T1, both the True HEPA filter (HEPAMax) and AOC carbon filter will cost you a lot, $149 and $199, respectively. For air filters that can last for only 1 year, the annual filter replacement cost of the Winix T1 is truly painful.

Winix T1 Room Coverage

From the bright side, buying a high-range air purifier is the quickest way to clean a large room. With more room for a larger fan, things are looking good for the Winix T1. In real-world use, the air purifier is capable of cleaning a room of 1000 square feet with ease. Of course it is not near the room coverage of things like Oransi EJ120 or Austin Air Bedroom Machine, but the Winix T1 has slight advantage over these two aforementioned devices, thanks to high CADR rating.

The ACH of Winix T1 is 4X. This air purifier can exchange the air in your room every 15 minutes.

The CADR of Winix T1 is 450 Dust/ 450 Smoke/ 400 Pollen (cfm). Such CADR rating is even higher than the Austin Air family, and you can enjoy the fresh air as soon as possible.

Winix T1 Sound

When there is more fan power, the one you need to worry should be the noise level of this air purifier. However, the silent operation is still the top reason to buy one Winix air purifier, even in a device with so many fan power inside like the Winix T1.

With 4 fan power, the Winix is running only at 34 decibels on lowest speed, and up to 55 decibels (db) on highest fan speed. The lowest noise level is just like the kind of the library noise level, and I bet you can hear anything from this air purifier. Even on highest speed, the air purifier operates at an acceptable noise, which won’t disturb you in such large room.

If you want to run the Winix T1 in your bedroom or your office, it is highly recommended to do so.

Winix T1 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

The power consumption is, again, another disadvantage for the devices with high fan power. Better fan needs more energy to operate, and you can’t expect a high-end air purifier for large rooms with a low power consumption. So to say, you should expect the power consumption of the Winix T1 to be as high as 200 watts on Turbo setting. Fortunately, you can keep this air purifier to run on lowest speed, as the rated power is only 10 watts.

If you are using the Winix T1 for 8 hours per day, you need to pay from $0.3 to a maximum of $72 per year. Though the cost is higher than normal air purifiers, it is still a small fee to keep your indoor air quality clean and fresh.

Winix T1 Additional Features

In high-range segment, the air purifier needs fantastic fan power and high-quality air filters above everything else. You can see a lot of air purifiers in this segment without any additional feature. Let’s check the air purifiers of Austin Air and Airpura to see the answer. In the world of non-smart air purifiers, the appearance of the Winix T1 is truly invaluable.

Through the Winix Smart app, you can control the Winix T1 easily with your smartphone. You must turn the Wi-Fi function of your unit on, so you can connect it with your app. The Winix Smart app is available both on Android and iOS, something quite similar to the Airmega 400S.

Winix T1 has its own Smart Sensor to detect the change of both dust and odor particles in your indoor air quality, and report through the indicator on front of this air purifier. Moreover, if you activate the Auto Mode, the Winix T1 can automatically adjust the fan speed to optimally clean the environment.

The Winix T1 still has the Sleep Mode, a valuable setting for bedroom. It can detect the amount of ambient light in your room to change the fan speed to lowest setting, as well as dim the indicator light. You can set the timer, too, to turn off your air purifier after a specified period of time, up to 12 hours.

From the LCD control panel, you can change the language setting, as well as the brightness and volume of your unit. If your unit’s Wi-Fi function is turned on, you can even check the weather forecast for your location, so you will always know the actual air quality outside your home.

Finally, this Winix T1 has one full filter setting to check for filter replacement. If you see a full bar, it means the filter has not been used. As the bar depletes, the less life your air filter has. When the bar is completely empty the filter will need to be replaced.

Our verdict

Just like any other high-end air purifiers, you will be happy for sure to have one Winix T1. The Winix Smart app works great, and you can’t deny the great power of this flagship. However, air purifiers like the IQAir GC MultiGas, Airpura P600 or Austin Air Bedroom Machine are able to last longer than this Winix T1, and sometimes it is necessary than a bunch of smart features.

Sadly, the Winix T1 has been discontinued. The LG PuriCare AS560DWR0 at the same price point share the same concept and performance as this Winix T1, so you should get it instead. Also both the newest Winix XLC and Winix XQ are competing at higher-range segment, so you should check out for both of them.
