The Winix HR950 is now unavailable to find in the official Winix America website, exactly like the case of Winix NK100. Winix is an amazing Korean brand. Since 1973, they have rapidly developed and expanded outside of their native country. The history of the Winix in the U.S started since 2003, and therefore, they even have better experience than lots of native American air purifier brands. In South Korea, they obtained the certification for Consumer Centered Management, an award that has value beyond even the most strict market. To be the Amazon’s Choice for air purifier, let’s read this Winix HR950 Review to check if it is worth your money or not.
Winix HR950 Price
The Winix HR1000 and Winix T1 are here. But, the Winix HR950 is still available (at least in Amazon), with pricing starting at a lower point, only $329. For an air purifier that has same performance as the Wi-Fi Enabled Winix HR1000, it is hard to ignore.
For the price, you can now buy the Winix NK105 to have the excellent Wi-Fi connectivity function from Winix brand, but without the Anti-microbial Coating in the True HEPA filter. There’s also the Winix WAC9500 which can offer the similar power and sometimes, the better price than this Winix HR950.
The Winix HR950 has been completely discontinued.
Also, you shouldn’t forget the strong opponents of Winix HR950 in the same price range. The Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0, Medify MA-40 and Alen BreatheSmart FLEX are powerful to compare with including the perfect customer services from both brands.

Winix HR950 Design and Size
Winix has a fun way to name their air purifiers. With the word “HR”, Winix HR950 looks exactly like its forebears. The fact that Winix still uses the basic Winix HR950 design for the Winix HR1000 shows how much it believes in it.
The flat front and back, side air grills and large stand for stronger base have become iconic traits that have stood the test of time. The air purifier’s design still measures up against more modern looking air purifiers for the most part.
The metallic chassis feels really nice especially when the Air quality indicator switch the colors based on the actual air quality. But Winix HR950 has more than that. It hides the side and front air intake grills behind a panel, which quite resembles the GermGuardian AC9200WCA or Alen BreatheSmart FLEX. While it reduces the actual performance of its air flow, the front panel can help reduce the pollutants clogged into the air grills. But for most people who don’t care about the physics, you can pass them all.
Winix HR950 patterns a repeated bottom-to-top air flow system of Winix brand. Then you can’t find the usual top air outlet grill, right? Do not panic, you just only need to turn on the air purifier, and the magic air vent will open. It truly feels expensive and modern.
Other than that, Winix HR gets a top control panel, with the Smart Sensor and Light Sensor, again with 5 basic function button. The top controller is more popular for a home air purifier with 23.6 inches in height. Only Winix WAC9500 tried to get out of the mainstream, but did not succeed.
For optimal performance of the Dust Sensor, which detects airborne dust and ultra-fine particles, you need to clean it every two months. And if your places have high level of dust, you should clean it more often. Follow the manual to do it properly.
The Winix HR950 is 18.7 lbs, which is really lightweight to pick it up and move around your home.

Winix HR950 Filters
One thing that you can find in all Winix air purifiers is the number of stages in the air cleaning system. Normally, to decide the performance of an air purifier, we should look at how many air filters and what air filter types are used. The Winix HR950 is using the perfect 5-stage air cleaning system, which is the best air filtration technology of this brand.
- Pre-filter – The polluted air must pass through a pre-filter. This pre-filter will help capture the large objects of contaminants, such as pet hair and even some kinds of pet dander. This filter can be washable to work permanently.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter that captures 99.97% of down to 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles.
- Anti-Microbial Coating – Though this is not a physical filter, the treatment also provides a layer of protection to your air quality.
- Activated Carbon filter – Made of high-grade granular activated carbon, this Activated Carbon filter will eliminate odors and smokes, also reduce the common household chemicals.
- Winix PlasmaWave – This technology is one kind of ionizer, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.
As usual, Winix has upgraded the air filtration system for the latest devices, bringing the Anti-Microbial Coating to its current True HEPA filter. With this upgrade, the True HEPA filter will have more protection to deal with the growth of mold in its surface, and therefore, prolongs the air filter life.
But in general day to day use, you can’t experience the difference. In fact, the True HEPA filter from Winix HR950 doesn’t have a slight difference from the predecessors like Winix NK100 or Winix 5500-2. It still captures the maximum 99.97% of airborne allergens (of course, in the standard conditions).
The Coated Deodorization Carbon filter is the reason why this air purifier is supposed to be the best air purifier for pets. It helps capture the pet odors and most of the household chemicals (including of VOCs).
Yes, it is pretty damn good here, but the overall quality does not exceed any True HEPA air purifiers with only 3-stage air cleaning system. I bet that most of the “5-stage” is for the marketing purpose, but again, we need a test. This time, I brought the 4-stage air cleaning system in the Winix NK105 (with the same price) and a Blue Pure 211. In the same test conditions, they all finished with the high efficiency of 99.93% – 99.95% for any pollutant particles as small as 0.3 microns in size.
My test conditions: All air purifiers run in the room of 200 square feet, for 1 hour.
There is only one slight downside of all Winix air purifiers – the high cost of filter replacement. You should know that the True HEPA filter J of Winix HR950 can only last for 1 year, and with the cost of $99 ($40 higher than the Blue Pure 211), you are paying about $0.3 each day for your clean air quality at home. Don’t worry, because you can check our deal and get discount for the air filter.

Winix HR950 Room Coverage
The Winix HR950 and Winix HR1000 are born to enlarge the very small room coverage of modern Winix devices, for example the Winix QS and Winix WAC9500. Finally, we could have one Winix air purifier that is able to run in a room 400 square feet.
The ACH of Winix HR950 is 5X. With high air changes per hour, this air purifier can clean your room as often as every 12 minutes.
The CADR of Winix HR950 is 264 Dust/ 258 Smoke/ 301 Pollen (cfm). You can tell from the CADR rating that Winix HR950 is fast at cleaning your room of 400 square feet. Take a bit math and you will get a room cleaned of pollutants in just 30 minutes.

Winix HR950 Sound
The noise level capabilities of the Winix HR950 is, once again, really brilliant. In terms of making low noise level, Winix has reduced the size of their air purifiers’ fans, as well as innovated it to keep the same performance as before. The result, you will only hear a noise level of 26.4 decibels (db) – an exact noise level of the whisper, and you will be hardly to hear anything.
What’s impressive is how Winix HR950 can run at 4 fan speeds and keep such low noise level. Of course, it is better than even the tough competitors about the noise level like Alen BreatheSmart FLEX or Honeywell HFD360B.
So to say, if you want an air purifier for a quiet place, like your office, you should buy a Winix HR950.

Winix HR950 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.
To maintain both the performance and the noise level, Winix can’t keep the power consumption of their devices to as low as other potential opponents. And in the case of Winix HR950, the power consumption can reach as high as 87 watts.
For like 8 hours of using per day, it would cost you around $32 per year. Though I don’t deny the high power consumption of this Winix HR950, it is just $0.1 you spend each day for your better indoor air quality.

Winix HR950 Additional Features
One feature that Winix does indisputably well for their air purifiers, and that is the excellent Smart Sensor. With a accurate sensor for dust, your Winix HR950 will keep track of the real-time indoor air quality. If it detects a poor air quality, it will alert you with the LED light notification. Moreover, if you are running the Auto Mode, it will automatically change the fan speed to the Turbo, and thus clean your room faster. With this Smart Sensor, you no longer to run your air purifier manually again.
Unlike the Winix HR1000, the Winix HR950 has only one Child lock function, to prevent your children from accidentally press the buttons and change the settings. The child lock function is necessary for short air purifier, with the control panel in reach of your kids.
Moreover, you will have a great Light Sensor to detect the amount of ambient light within the environment, and can adjust the brightness of the LED indicators automatically. With this function (and of course, the very low noise level), Winix HR950 is a good example for the best air purifier for bedroom.
Finally, you will have a basic Timer and a LED indicator for filter replacement. You should reset the indicator whenever you change the new air filter, or else it will keep alerting you.
