Winix is one of the most successful air purifier brands on U.S market, thanks to their exclusive PlasmaWave technology. As the next-gen upgrade of many popular air purifiers like Winix 5300-2, Winix 5500-2 and Winix C535, the Winix C545 is expected to be the best smart air purifier on a budget. But how it performs? Let’s find out in our today Winix C545 Review.
Winix C545 Price
In the U.S market, the Winix C545 triggers a lot of curiosity. U.S customers are quite fond of the previous Winix C535 and they love to see the new one to be in any top rated air purifiers list. Moreover, it is really difficult to get a deal for this Winix C545, especially when it can’t be found on both Amazon and Winix America website.
The much-awaited elder sibling of Winix C555 is finally here, bringing major upgrades to an already excellent package than the newest brother. It is also one air purifier rated by Energy Star, so you can enjoy an air purifier with energy saving in mind.
The Winix C545 comes just about three months after the C535, but manages to appear on Amazon only last year. Taking the U.S air purifier market into consideration, it’s not surprising that Winix brought a new version of one of their most popular models. It might take a while for the South Korean manufacturer to bring all of their air purifiers into the largest market in the world. Also, they want to stay relevant in the competitive budget segment.
Back to the Winix C545, I must admit that I don’t know the official price of this air purifier. You can find it on many trusted retailers for $199, but to get the announced price tag from Winix, we must wait a little bit.
So far, this Winix C545 is a companion with the Winix AM90, which is one of our reviewed best air purifiers. Perhaps, the only difference is in design concept, and even in this field, I find many similarities.
Winix C545 comes into the low-range segment to directly compete against the Levoit LV-PUR131S and RENPHO RP-AP001S, as they both appear to be the most affordable smart air purifier. You can also search for the Medify MA-Smart, which packs with H13 True HEPA filter at this price range.
So far, I don’t know if the Winix C545 can be as successful as its brothers in U.S market, but there is one thing I believe, that any Winix users would be happy with their air purifiers.

Winix C545 Design and Size
Winix’s design language has become pretty refined and standard over the last few generations. On the Winix C545, we once again get a same structure with solid plastic build, using white tone as the main color. This is also the design concept for both the Winix C535 and Winix C555, however, Winix C545 keeps the white color for even the control panel.
Other dimensions remain the same, as the Winix C545 is 23.6 inches in height, even though it has 4 revealed legs. It looks really similar to the Winix AM90, only that the latter has no leg and a flat top surface instead.
For the uninitiated, Winix air purifiers are likely to have perforated holes for air intake in the recent years, because it was quite literally more efficient to trap large dust before it contacts with the pre-filter. Winix C545 still runs the bottom-to-top air flow system concept, with air outlet is on top.
It’s a pretty minimal and classy design that looks even more premium than the predecessors. Winix C545 makes the control panel a bit leaning to the front, which is the signature design of the Winix 5300-2. However, it places all the buttons to the right, mainly for aesthetic.
Winix C545 weighs 16.7 lbs, meaning it is nearly the same as most Winix air purifiers.

Winix C545 Filters
As a rule of thumb, the performance of one air purifier is normally decided by the quality and quantity of its air filters, as well as the air filter types are being used. Winix C545 uses a 4-stage air cleaning system, which is better than the previous Winix C535.
- Pre-filter – The polluted air must pass through a fine mesh pre-filter. This pre-filter will help capture the large objects of contaminants, such as pet hair and even some kinds of pet dander and skin. It is washable to be used permanently.
- Activated Carbon filter – The air filter can adsorb household odors from cooking, pets, and smoke and reduce VOCs.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter that captures 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles.
- Winix PlasmaWave – This technology is one kind of ionizer, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.
As expected from these specifications, the Winix C545 is on par with the Winix AM90 in terms of air filtration system. It adds an extra mesh pre-filter to extend the life time of both carbon and HEPA filters. Well, the carbon sheet filter is enough to adsorb household odors, such as cooking smells or pet odors.
The True HEPA filter and PlasmaWave technology work perfectly fine to capture all airborne pollutants. We all know of the Winix PlasmaWave, a technology that releases both negative and positive ions, to form hydroxyls that attack airborne pollutants such as viruses, bacteria, germs, odors, and chemical gases (VOCs).
In terms of real-life use, that translates to an extremely high efficiency on the right area of space. I put the Winix C545 in a simple test, in a space of 200 square feet and the duration of 1 hour. I also compared it with the flagships of other well-known brands, like Honeywell HPA300, AeraMax 300 and Blueair Sense+. Winix C545 is only behind the Honeywell HPA300 in terms of power, with high efficiency for trapping 99.94% airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns.
The Winix C545 uses the new filter S, which you need to pay for only $59 each year. However, the filter cost is still high on average, and at the time of writing, there is no supply for the new air filter. That being said, you need to wait a little bit longer for a genuine Winix C545’s filter replacement. Or you can buy the filter replacement from Flintar, which is said to be fully compatible with the Winix C545, and it is just half the price.

Winix C545 Sound
Silent operation has been the key selling point of Winix air purifier in the recent years, and the Winix C545 doesn’t try to step out of this trend. This air purifier can stay as low as 28 decibels (db), which is even quieter than whisper.
Even on highest speed, the Winix C545 only releases white noise, which actually can improve your sleep and working’s efficiency. If you are contesting the Winix C545 with Levoit LV-PUR131S or RENPHO RP-AP001S on the silent operation front, the Winix C545 will certainly be the best.

Winix C545 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.
The Winix C545 seems well-optimized for taking the air cleaning task without consuming too much energy. It is an Energy Star air purifier with the rated power of 65 watts, a bit lower than even another Energy Star Winix C535.
If you are using Winix C545 for 8 hours per day, you would need to spend $23 each year.

Winix C545 Additional Features
Winix C545 isn’t the first to bring high-end features to low-range segment, the Winix AM90 did it previously. However, it feels really smooth as you can control this air purifier with a smartphone, instead of a common remote control like the Winix 5500-2. Moreover, the Winix C545 is compatible with Alexa, so you can use voice control to command the air purifier.
It also features the advanced Smart Sensor from its predecessors, and it can help you know exactly the current air quality status, through a LED indicator on control panel. Most importantly, you can activate the Auto Mode, and completely forget about the air purifier. Winix C545 will automatically adjust the fan speed, accordingly to the environment’s need.
Thanks to the advanced Wi-Fi Enabled Connectivity feature, you can easily schedule the time off for this air purifier, and check the indoor air quality index anywhere, anytime.
Finally, there is a LED indicator for filter replacement. It’s basic, but you need this feature.
