  • Smart features
  • Refreshing, new design
CONS

  • No voice control

Winix finally allows the Winix 5500-2 to retire, and it releases not one, but three different designs for the supposed 5500-3 (well, we should believe it is the correct number format). The Winix 5510 review is to help you know about the first one.

Other Winix’s Air Purifier Reviews:

Winix 5510 Price

For years, the best-selling air purifier from Winix was the Winix 5500-2. However, it became increasingly difficult to keep selling a model that lacked Wi-Fi connectivity and relied on an older fan motor with higher energy consumption. That is why Winix introduced a new generation, with the Winix 5510 becoming the first model in the revised lineup, launching in 2024.

We have the Winix 5520 the next year and then the Winix 5530, both share the same internals as the Winix 5510. They look more different to the original 5500 than the Winix 5510, which is a selling tactic that Winix keeps doing for a long time.

The Winix 5510 stays at $179, but for a limited time, you can grab it as low as $129, providing that you follow the deal from Breathe Quality. At this price, the Winix 5510 is a better deal to buy when it is a lot more affordable than the Levoit Core 400S and Blue Pure 311i Max.

Winix 5510 Design and Size

The Winix 5510 is arguably the closest modern interpretation of the original Winix 5500-2, retaining the familiar charcoal-gray finish and straight front grille design. However, the newer model features additional grille openings, a necessary change to support its more powerful fan system and increased airflow capacity.

You can also notice that the Winix 5510 uses small support legs to help distribute the unit’s weight, replacing the flat base found on the original Winix 5500-2. Aside from that change, the overall size remains very similar, with the Winix 5510 measuring 22.2 inches in height and 13.6 inches in width.

It runs the same signature front-to-top airflow system concept, supporting by a large fan motor inside. The top control panel of the Winix 5510 features a slightly revised button layout, but it still retains the clean, minimalist design that many users appreciate about Winix air purifiers.

At 13.3 lbs, the Winix 5510 is lighter than its predecessor, but not too much.

Winix 5510 Filters

We check the performance of one air purifiers based on its air filters’ quality and material, as well as the number of air filter types. The Winix 5510 runs the signature Winix 4-stage air cleaning system.

  1. Pre-filter – The polluted air must pass through a fine mesh pre-filter. This pre-filter will capture the large objects of contaminants, such as pet hair and even some kinds of pet dander and skin.
  2. Activated Carbon filter – The air filter can adsorb household odors from cooking, pets, and smoke and reduce VOCs.
  3. True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter that captures 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles.
  4. Winix PlasmaWave – This technology is somehow an ionizer, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.

We explained better about the Winix’s signature PlasmaWave technology here. In short, with its comprehensive and well-engineered filtration process, the Winix 5510 is a highly capable air purifier that can effectively tackle a wide range of indoor air pollutants.

For the ressult, the Winix 5510 shares the same result as the Winix 5520 and Winix 5530, under the same conditions. It is better than some competitors like the GermGuardian AC5900 and the Coway Airmega 160, though the difference isn’t large.

Winix 5510 review

We need the new Winix filter Q for the Winix 5510, 5520 and 5530, which is a little bigger than the traditional Filter H. It is also costlier at $79, and you must replace filter every 12 months.

Winix 5510 Room Coverage

The Winix 5510 is verified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) for up to 392 square feet. We believe consumers should place greater trust in air purifiers that have been tested and verified by reputable organizations such as Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. Independent certification helps ensure that performance claims are based on standardized testing rather than marketing estimates.

The ACH of the Winix 5510 is 5X. The air purifier can fully clean its AHAM-verified room size approximately every 12 minutes.

The CADR of the Winix 5510 is 252 Dust/ 253 Smoke/ 247 Pollen (cfm). The result is similar to the Winix 5510 and Winix 5520.

Winix 5510 Sound

Winix rarely highlights noise performance in its marketing materials, and there is probably a reason for that. The Winix 5510 performs well at its lowest fan speed, producing around 30 decibels (dB) of noise, which falls within the range typically associated with a quiet library. However, it is still somewhat louder than the lowest noise levels achieved by the Winix C610 or Winix T810.

On its highest speed, the noise level of the Winix 5510 can go as high as 60 decibels. Make sure you run it on Auto mode, which usually keeps the noise level as low as possible.

Winix 5510 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

The Winix 5510 and its sibling models are not Energy Star certified, but it is still better than the predecessor Winix 5500-2. The power consumption of the Winix 5510 is only 65 watts.

The estimated operating cost for the Winix 5510 is only around $28.49 per year when used for at least 8 hours per day.

Winix 5510 Additional Features

As mentioned earlier, one of the main reasons Winix introduced newer models like the Winix 5510 was to add the Wi-Fi connectivity that has become a standard feature in today’s market. This upgrade allows the Winix 5510 to compete more effectively with the growing number of smart air purifiers available to consumers.

The Winix Smart app is far better than what we remembered many years ago, and you can easily control the Winix 5510 through the app. The content is relatively straightforward in terms of features.

The Winix 5510 stills uses the dual air sensors from the original Winix 5500-2, which is highly accurate to detect the air quality’s changes. Running the air purifier in its Auto mode can keep its noise level at its lowest.

Finally, we have a light sensor to activate the Sleep mode for the air purifier. There is an LED indicator for filter replacement.
