As we said earlier, the Blue Pure 311i Max sits in the middle, positioned between the Blue Pure 511i Max and the Blue Pure 211i Max. Many people will expect the Blue Pure 311i Max as a more capable mid-range Blueair unit, and if you want a TLDR version, the air purifier is simply worth the money.

At $229, the Blue Pure 311i Max stays in the same spot as the older Blue Pure 311 Auto, even a little cheaper. It is one of the most feature-rich mid-sized air purifiers you could buy right now. The air purifier also offered some of the strongest CADR-per-watt performance available and was a tempting proposition for anyone needing more cleaning power than the previous 511i Max.

The closest competitors to the Blue Pure 311i Max are certainly the duo Levoit Vital 200S and Levoit Core 400S from Levoit, and Winix 5510 and Winix AM90 from Winix – but all of them are older models, and they don’t have the AI RealTrack indicator for filter life. While it isn’t a must-have feature, it is still a small advantage for Blueair.

Blue Pure 311i Max Design and Size

The Blue Pure 311i Max design is different from the outgoing Blue Pure 311 Auto. Like all the units in the Blue Pure Max range, it has a bigger base but remains the cylindrical tower with a fabric pre-filter sleeve wrapped around the lower section and a white control cap on top. The design is somehow the best of Blueair, at least in my opinion, and we love the Blue Pure 311i Max more than modern Blue Signature SP3i.

It’s hard to tell whether this is something that’s primarily functional or just a change to the design language, to emphasize that this is a new-generation Blueair, and an upgrade over the previous model. Blueair is likely to refresh its own lineup’s design, which is a good thing for new buyers, as they will want something that reads clearly as a meaningful upgrade.

For the size, the Blue Pure 311i Max is nearly the same as the past 311 Auto in my memory. The height of the new air purifier is roughly 19 inches, and the diameter is 12.5 inches. It is certainly thicker and asks for bigger footprint, but the Blue Pure 311i Max is still a bit smaller than its competitors. Take a look at the GermGuardian AC3200 and the Honeywell HPA125 – they are both taller tower types. And yes, the Blue Pure 511i Max is only 8 lbs, which is very light.

We find the Blue Pure 311i Max nearly the same size and dimension as the Blue Pure 411i Max, which we still don’t have chance to test it.

As a member of the Blue family, the Blue Pure 311i Max runs a bottom-to-top airflow system concept, using a 360° air intake. The washable fabric pre-filter sleeve on the exterior is inherited from previous Blue design, which functions as room decor, available in five distinct colorways, so it should be easier to integrate the Blue Pure 311i Max into a living space without the unit drawing unwanted attention.

Finally, take a look at new top control panel of the Blue Pure 511i Max. It starts from the smallest Blue Pure Mini Max, albeit with more fan speed options.

Blue Pure 311i Max Filters

We check the performance of one air purifiers based on its air filters’ quality and material, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. The Blue Pure 311i Max uses the signature Blue 3-stage air cleaning system.

The Blue Pure 311i Max has, essentially, the same HEPASilent filtration technology as the bigger Blue Pure 211i Max. The big change is to the motor output, which steps up the CADR meaningfully without adding to the cylindrical footprint of the Blue Pure 311i Max’s chassis compared to the smaller model like the Pure 411i Max.

With HEPASilent technology used here you’re getting one of the most efficient filtration systems in the mid-range; it’s able to capture fine particles, larger allergens and a broad range of airborne contaminants. To test that, we run the Blue Pure 311i Max in closed space of 200 square feet, 1 hour of continuous running. It’s at the top, trapping 99.99% of all particles down to 0.3 microns, similar to the new Winix T810 and Winix T830.

The Blue Pure 311i Max uses the new F3Max filter, which needs to be replaced every 9 months, and the cost is significantly higher at $44. We recommend subscribing to reduce the annual filter cost, or checking our deal below for a discount that is commonly around 24% off.

Blueair has a tradition of submitting its air purifiers for verification by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM). It is currently the most trusted test for measuring an air purifier’s fan power. The Blue Pure 311i Max is rated for rooms up to 439 square feet.

Blue Pure 311i Max Sound

The HEPASilent technology represents the peak of silent operation in air purifier engineering. By reducing the density of the main HEPA filter, Blueair air purifiers can lower fan speed while achieving the same performance. On its lowest setting, the Blue Pure 311i Max can go as low as 23 decibels (dB), and I believe most people won’t even notice it running.

Even on the highest speed, the noise level is around 50 decibels, which is perhaps the quietest air purifier in this price range.
