Blueair is a symbol of air purifier industry for more than 20 years, with their expansion to more than 60 countries. As the obvious upgrade of the Blueair Classic 605, our today Blueair Classic 680i is easily the best that Blueair can cram into an air purifier. Fact is, with its high-end features, the Blueair Classic 680i should be the better air purifier than even the huge Blueair Pro XL. It’s time for our Blueair Classic 680i Review, to check one of the top-class air purifiers you can buy for your home.
Other Blueair’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Blueair Classic 680i Price
As I must say, the Blueair Classic 680i is the favorable card up Blueair’s sleeve. It has unmatched performance, even among the rank of Blueair family, high-end features and a built-in air sensor. Better design of the Blueair Classic 605 allows us to move the huge air purifier easily, and it also supports the air cleaning tasks.
However, if you are really a fan of Blueair, you will be a bit disappointed for the old sake appearance of the Blueair Classic 680i. For someone who doesn’t really need the Auto Mode on, the standard Classic 605 feels like it offers better value.
But hey, this is the biggest and most powerful Blueair Classic air purifier, and the Blueair Classic 680i can take the very best of its technology and combining it with an upgraded design that includes a new set of casters, smart and dynamic air flow system, and an extraordinary fan power. It is expensive, obviously, Blueair raises the price for the Blueair Classic 680i to $899 on their official website.
This air purifier is like it should be in the Pro family, as its price matches the Blueair Pro L. So if you’re not rich enough to swim regularly in a pool of money, it’s probably time to get saving.
Yes, it rivals the cost of some strongest air purifiers in the world, like the IQAir HealthPro Plus, Oransi EJ120, Airpura UV600 or Austin Air Bedroom Machine. However, this Blueair Classic 680i is easily the most advanced air purifier among the rank. That’s how it’s designed to do very different things.
You will also find some interesting air purifiers for the price, most notably the Molekule Air. These air purifiers are much smaller than any aforementioned machines, and they don’t have such huge fan power. However, with the exclusive air filtration technology, these air purifiers can completely get rid of chemicals and biological pollutants. I recommend you not to skip them.

Blueair Classic 680i Design and Size
Blueair might not have changed the design of the Blueair Classic 680i, compared to the previous Blueair Classic 605 (and even Blueair Classic 505), but this design’s already been the improved one. It has a three-dimension air interaction allows the machine to have a complete 360° air distribution. The air inlet and air outlet are placed in both sides, to cycle the air flow much better.
The rest of the design is very similar to what we’ve seen from the closest brother in 600 Series: the bottom air inlet and top air outlet, so the Blueair Classic 680i needs a very powerful fan motor to deliver such huge amount of air flow.
We have a housing made from durable, galvanized steel, which is premium both in feeling and looking. Blueair Classic 680i is built to last longer. It is also super big, with 26 inches in height and 20 inches in width. Luckily, we have 4 casters to help move this big air purifier, weighing at 35 lbs.
Ultimately, the design of the Blueair Classic 680i is pretty much identical to that of the Classic 605 – to the point where I managed to take the wrong device for our next performance test. The top control panel is still convenient and easy to use.

Blueair Classic 680i Filters
Aside from the high-end additional features, the exclusive air filtration technology of Blueair Classic 680i is one of the main selling points for this high-end, expensive air purifier. From the previous Blueair Classic 605, we need not one, but three air filters to work for the Blueair 600 Series.
- Particle Filter/ SmokeStop Filter – You can choose from the Particle Filter with the power to capture 99.97% of pollutants such as pollen, dust, pet dander, mold spores, viruses and bacteria down to 0.1 microns. Or you can pay more for SmokeStop Filter, which is most likely the combination of True HEPA filter and Activated Carbon Filter.
Air filtration technology of the Blueair Classic 680i is simply the best you can get at the moment. Blueair Classic 680i uses Particle Filter, with thermally bonded fibers containing polypropylene and polyethylene. This air filter is free of chemicals and naturally anti-bacterial.
Blueair uses the unique HEPASilent technology to remove virtually all airborne pollutants. This technology combines both electrostatic and mechanical filtration, to ensure the maximum efficiency of trapping air pollutants. It is proven to remove 99.99% of the 12 most common airborne viruses and bacteria. You can learn more on page 20 of the Blueair Performance Book.
I highly recommend you to get the SmokeStop air filter, to increase the odor removal up to 4 times. It has given the name of DualProtection, with the addition of high-porosity coconut carbon, to remove gaseous pollutants, VOCs and chemicals much easier.
All of air filters made by Blueair has gradient filter structure, so they can resist clogging to maintain maximum airflow. However, the air filter is so high-quality that it can trap even airborne pollutants as small as 0.1 microns.
Though the internals of Blueair Classic 680i are similar to the Classic 605, it performed better in our same test of 500 square feet. At efficiency of 99.99%, the Blueair Classic 680i was better than the IQAir HealthPro Plus, Oransi EJ120 or Alen BreatheSmart 75i.
Though the upfront cost of Blueair Classic 680i’s filter is quite low, as it is only $89 on Blueair website, the filter can last for only 6 months. I recommend you to get the filter replacement from the below deal, which is genuine filter from the manufacturer.

Blueair Classic 680i Room Coverage
What you’re getting is an air purifier meant for extra-large rooms, verified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM). These standards are the best methods for measuring and calculating the CADR rating of one air purifier. That being said, the Blueair Classic 680i is suggested for room size up to 775 square feet.
The ACH of Blueair Classic 680i is 5X. High fan power allows the device to exchange up to 5 times per hour even in a large space.
The CADR of Blueair Classic 680i is 400 Dust/ 450 Smoke/ 450 Pollen (cfm). The higher the CADR value, the more clean air is produced by the air purifier at the same time. Blueair Classic 680i feels more immersive in extra-large rooms, and it needs such high fan power to compete in the rank of high-range air purifiers.

Blueair Classic 680i Sound
Again, you should notice the filtration technology of Blueair Classic 680i named HEPASilent. On lowest speed, the huge and bulky machine runs at whisper quiet sound with 32 decibels (db). It is just amazing for an air purifier with such power.
If you want to sleep with the maximum protection on, then you can sleep well with the Blueair Classic 680i. The sound level of 62 decibels is equivalent to the white noise of a floor fan, so if you place the device at a distance of 100 feet, I bet that you can sleep well.

Blueair Classic 680i Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” An air purifier is meant to run for a long time to be efficient, that’s why many air purifier brands consider the energy-saving standard, mostly in the rate of Energy Star, is one important selling point.
The Blueair Classic 680i shares the same power consumption as its brother – the Blueair Classic 605. Its lowest power consumption is just only 15 watts, and the highest is 103 watts. I believe the Blueair Classic 680i is Energy Star rated, according to the similarity with the Classic 605.
For running a Blueair Classic 680i 8 hours per day, you only need to pay from $21 to $36 annually, depending on which mode you run the most.

Blueair Classic 680i Additional Features
I should get into assessing the additional features for the Blueair Classic 680i so quickly in our review, as this is the main changes in the big boy for the old Blueair Classic 605.
If you are familiar with the Blueair Classic 280i and Blueair Classic 480i, however, you can easily skip this section for the final verdict. In terms of hardware, the key difference is the addition of the integrated air sensor. It allows the Blueair Classic 680i to keep up with changing conditions automatically, thanks to the advanced Auto Mode. To track the PM 2.5 and VOC level, you should check the color-coded indicator on Blueair Classic 680i’s control panel.
It also report the current air quality: PM 2.5, VOC, temperature, humidity in your app. Blueair Classic 680i can be managed remotely from your smartphone, tablet, or Alexa with Wi-Fi. Also, thanks to the Blueair Friend App, you can adjust the fan speed or LED intensity. You can activate the Night Mode to keep the air purifier on lowest speed, and dim all the display. Blueair Classic 680i certainly has a LED indicator for filter replacement, to remind you when to change the air filter.
