Blueair has finished its 600 Series lineup with the Blueair Classic 605 and Classic 680i, but the first Blueair Classic 603 can still be found as refurbished product. Well, let’s see if it’s worth to take a look or not, in our today Blueair Classic 603 Review.

Other Blueair’s Air Purifier Reviews:

Blueair Classic 603 Price

The Blueair Classic 603 is a great air purifier, even without any smart features like its brothers, but one that didn’t really kick on from the stability of the Blueair Classic 605. It has a very similar design to the flagship of Classic family, as it is the first of its kind.

This air purifier was one of the best air purifiers available that led the charge where the Blueair Classic 403, one of the best air purifiers we’ve ever tested, left off. But it wasn’t much an upgrade, and when the smart features taps into the core of Classic family, the Blueair Classic 603 will be gone… forever.

You can still find the refurbished version of this Blueair Classic 603 in the official Blueair website, for only $461. This version is even lower than the new Classic 405 or Classic 480i. It is discontinued at the moment.

Now the final devices of 600 Series exists however, the Blueair Classic 603 does a good job of providing a cut-price flagship experience. But it is too old, so there is a chance that you can’t get the air purifier anymore.

Dyson, which is another Europe air purifier brand, reduced the price of many air purifier models to be near the price tag of our today reviewed unit. The Dyson Pure Hot+Cool, Dyson Pure Cool Tower and Dyson Pure Cool Link are all available for around $400, and they have cooling and heating features that you can’t have in an ordinary air purifier. You can also look for the Oransi mod, Aeris aair Lite, Medify MA-112, Airmega Icon or Boneco P500 in this price range, but all these devices can’t compare with the Blueair in terms of fan power.

Blueair Classic 603 Design and Size

Blueair Classic 603 is just an old version of the popular Classic 605. It still features the robust and solid build, an addition of 4 casters to support the mobility and the same size as the famous brother. Overall it’s a very similar design, and only turning the Blueair Classic 603 and Classic 605 over to see the side will reveal the main difference: a knob is used in the Classic 603, while Classic 605 use an intuitive top control panel.

This air purifier is really big and huge, with 26 inches in height and 20 inches in width, together with a weight of 35 lbs. Well, I should thank the invention of casters that help me move this machine easily.

One thing I noticed during our first few weeks of testing the Blueair Classic 605 is its design improves the efficiency a lot. Blueair calls it the SurroundAir system, to minimize drafts despite an extremely high airflow. Blueair Classic 603 has a real 360° air inlet and outlet, doubling the efficiency from both input and output.

Blueair Classic 603 Filters

No need to demonstrate the power of a Blueair Classic member, especially when the Blueair Classic 603 is under the 600 Series. It manages 3 sets of air filters, for a complete air filtration system.

  • Particle Filter/ DualProtection Filter – You can choose from the Particle Filter with the power to capture 99.97% of pollutants such as pollen, dust, pet dander, mold spores, viruses and bacteria down to 0.1 microns. Otherwise, you can pay more for DualProtection Filter, which is most likely the combination of True HEPA filter and Activated Carbon Filter.

This is the reason that some looking to buy any of the Blueair Classic family will find appealing. Yes, the power of Blueair HEPASilent technology, which combines both mechanical and electrostatic filtration to deal with even the particles as small as 0.1 microns. Moreover, the efficiency can be as high as 99.97%.

Remember that all air filters for Blueair is free of chemicals and naturally anti-bacterial. Therefore it can be 100% recyclable.

The Blueair Classic 603 doesn’t fall off too much from the top-tier flagships like the Blueair Classic 605 or Classic 680i. Even the Austin Air HealthMate Plus, which is typically a commercial product, is just better than our today reviewed unit a little.

blueair classic 603 review

Blueair Classic 603 uses the same set of air filters as its other brothers, with the official cost of $75 for the Particle filter. You can check our deal below to get a much lower price, and remember to change the filter every 6 months.

Blueair Classic 603 Room Coverage

I’m quite disappointed with the fan power of the Blueair Classic 603, because for the same size, it can’t deliver as much as the Blueair Classic 605. Still, it is great for the current price point, because the Blueair Classic 603 is recommended for 698 square feet, rated by AHAM.

The ACH of Blueair Classic 603 is 5X. All air purifiers manufactured from Blueair company can exchange air in the room coverage 5 times per hour.

The CADR of Blueair Classic 603 is 450 cfm in general. It is lower than its brothers in 600 Series, but it is still equal to most of Austin Air or AllerAir machines. Also, you can choose the Medify MA-112 as an alternatives, with AHAM’s CADR rating of 450 cfm.

Blueair Classic 603 Sound

HEPASilent is the unique selling point of Blueair, meaning all of its air purifiers must be efficient while silent. The Blueair Classic 603, despite of its huge fan power, trims down the noise level to be only 32 decibels (dB) on lowest speed, which is like the whisper.

On highest speed, the noise level can be as high as 66 decibels, which is a bit higher than the Classic 605. If you don’t care about the money, I suggest you to get the Blueair Pro L, for a much quieter operation while sharing the same fan power.

Blueair Classic 603 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” An air purifier is meant to run for a long time to be efficient, that’s why many air purifier brands consider the energy-saving standard, mostly in the rate of Energy Star, is one important selling point.

Just like its brothers, the Blueair Classic 603 is an Energy Star air purifier, and the lowest power consumption of this device is 35 watts. However, if you plan to use its full power, the energy this air purifier can consume is as much as 120 watts.

For running a Blueair Classic 603 8 hours per day, you need to pay from $13 to $43 annually, depending on which mode you run the most.

Blueair Classic 603 Additional Features

It is quick to write this section, as the Blueair Classic 603 doesn’t feature any extra settings. You should look for the Classic 605 or Classic 680i for more additional features.

Actually, Blueair gives you a countdown timer when purchasing the Blueair Classic 603, to alert you when your filter needs to be changed. The magnet on the back allows you to attach the timer to your unit or any other magentic surface.

Our verdict

It’s time to say goodbye to the Blueair Classic 603, which is once the flagship of Blueair Classic family. It’s really difficult to get one at the moment, and even if you get a chance, choose the Classic 605 instead.

The Blueair Classic 603 is finally discontinued.
