Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Air Purifier: Trusted Review & Specs

Dyson Pure Hot+Cool is an interesting device in Dyson family. It is not only suitable for a hot summer thanks to its cooling power, but the new heating function also works amazingly during the winter time. In short, you will get three functions just in one air purifier device, and this is what makes the Dyson distinct from others. At the moment, we are having two separate versions of this Dyson air purifier in the name of HP01 and HP02, and let’s discuss about the Dyson HP01 in today Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Review.

Dyson Pure Hot+Cool ranks C- in our air purifier ranking list. We give the biggest and most thorough database of air purifier reviews in the world.

Since 1991, the British Dyson company is a well-known brand of lots of household appliances, including of air purifiers. We can search through lots of list which ended up with the best device being Dyson. That being said, we will have even more hope for the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool than the previous successful Pure Cool Link, because it marked a new era of innovative air purifiers. Now, are you ready for the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Review?

Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Price

The concept of combining an air purifier and a cooling fan is really great, as it improved Dyson air purifiers, most notably the Dyson Pure Cool Link and Dyson Pure Cool Tower, out of the dirt clogging as a fan. But then we have the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool, a device that is engineered and designed to be a conversation-changer, which is intended to turn everyone’s yearly question of “Do I need this air purifier?” into a more exclamatory “I really need this one!”

The new heating technology makes this air purifier one ultimate device you only need for your indoor air quality. Dyson called it “triple function” and made its three-in-one air purifier with both Wi-Fi and non-Wi-Fi versions, in the name of HP01 and HP02, respectively.

With all of the hallmarks from a Dyson product, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool will cost you a bit higher than the normal Pure Cool Link Desk. Or you can stick with the original version (non-Wi-Fi) – the Dyson HP01, which has the same price tag as the Wi-Fi Dyson DP01. The official price is $599, but has been cut into $399 in the Dyson website. If you want to try the Dyson HP02, you must pay for $599.

This price tag puts the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool directly into the entry-level of high-range segment, and the next-gen Dyson HP04 will reach the same price that Airmega 400 or Austin Air Allergy Machine are charging you. But back to our old units, they are just the competitors to more affordable air purifiers, like Rabbit Air MinusA2 or Airmega 300S.

At the moment, there are many mixtures just like the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool, for example the Sharp KC-850U or Sharp KC-860U. Still, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool is one iconic air purifier, and when we think of a multi-functional air purifier, our top-of-mind should be Dyson.

We can clearly see the gap between the non-Wi-Fi Dyson HP01 with the Wi-Fi enabled models, so our today unit is still a reasonable option to consider. If you want to opt-in for the Wi-Fi version, I suggest you to try the Dyson HP04 immediately.

The Dyson Pure Hot+Cool has seen a great deal today, and you should grab it immediately on Breathe Quality.

Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Design and Size

The first thing you will notice about this Dyson Pure Hot+Cool is the new shape of the amplifier. Talking about the amplifier, it is the unique thing that makes a Dyson a real Dyson, and this part is shared across all models of this family. In the Dyson Pure Cool Link (DP01) or Dyson DP04, we get a round amp, while it will be oval in any Dyson Pure Hot+Cool model, from the HP01, HP02 and even the latest Dyson HP04.

If you question the new shape, you are right. The oval shape may take a bit less space than the round one, but it can’t move the same amount of air like the Desk models. I will explain more in the “Room coverage” section.

But despite of the clear differences, we still have the unique bladeless design of the old Dyson cooling fan in this Dyson Pure Hot+Cool. Our today unit (the HP01) has the height of 25 inches, which is just a bit taller than the desktop counterparts. The amp diameter is only 6 inches, less than half the diameter of the round amp from Pure Cool Link Desk models.

As a heater, there is an LCD display for the actual temperature in your room, which is above the power button. If you are using the HP02 model, you can even check the signal strength of your Wi-Fi, too. There is no difference in the design between the HP01 and HP02, and to be honest, if you don’t ask the retailer, you won’t tell one from the other.

Well, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool will sport the same bottom-to-top airflow system concept like any other Dyson air purifiers, with the air intake having perforated holes and top air outlet under the amplifier. Dyson said that it doesn’t want the awkward grills on its air purifiers.

Lastly, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool is 8.6 lbs, which is small enough for you to bring it into anywhere in your home.

Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Filters

Like any old models (generally 01 and 02) of Dyson, both versions of Dyson Pure Hot+Cool will only use one air filter to do the air cleaning task.

  1. True HEPA filter – With the glass HEPA filter, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool is able to capture 99.97% all airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns, including pollen, bacteria and pet dander.
  2. Activated Carbon filter – Removes household odors, smoke and gases.

Dyson Pure Hot+Cool can’t adsorb the gases, smoke and odors as good as the Dyson HP04 because of the old Evo filter, and in this price range, it is really a disadvantage of the device. If you are willing to pay $599, you will either have the Austin Air Allergy Machine with its powerful HEGA filter, or Rabbit Air MinusA2 with double filtration for odor prevention. And we can’t ignore the possible high-quality carbon air filter from things like AllerAir 4000 or Airpura H600.

With only the HEPA filter, however, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool still manage a great performance, even against the top performers in this price range. To help you see the actual efficiency of this device, I used a classic test for this air purifier in a room of 200 square feet, and under 1 hour. The test was also conducted on the air purifiers with high fan power – the Vornado PCO575DC, Levoit EverestAir, Winix XQ and Rabbit Air A3. Well, as you can see from the chart below, our today Dyson Pure Hot+Cool HP01 clearly was the worst one.

Our Dyson Pure Hot+Cool model (HP01) uses the same HEPA filter as the previous Dyson Pure Cool Link (DP01). You should change the filter annually, with the cost of only $69 for one genuine replacement.

Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Room Coverage

As I said before, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool with oval amplifier will move less amount of air than the round amp of Dyson Pure Cool Link. It is recommended for room of 126 square feet by the Energy Star.

Because this air purifier is also a fan, we don’t have the ACH and CADR ratings. Dyson told that high CADR rating doesn’t mean better, so it doesn’t quote any CADR score for its products.

The ACH of Dyson Pure Hot+Cool is 4X. However, if you are running the air purifier in 400 square feet, expect it to clean for only once per hour.

The CADR of Dyson Pure Hot+Cool is 50 cfm in general. It is far too low for an air purifier in this price range. The maximum airflow of Dyson Pure Hot+Cool is 53 gallons per second, equal 425 cfm. It is a lot lower than the Dyson Pure Cool Link version.

Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Sound

Just like any Dyson devices, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool guarantee a silent operation even with the fan function. Its lowest noise level is only 40 decibels (dB) – the noise level of library, and you won’t notice any sound from such quiet running like this.

On highest speed, I measured the noise level to be 57 decibels, which is still reasonable for an air purifier with cooling and heating fan features. It is only the white noise, and in fact, it can help you sleep easier.

Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, an air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

In cooling mode, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool has a power consumption from 36 to 44 watts, which is low enough for an average air purifier. The rated power for heating mode, however, is as high as 1575 watts. You should know that the heating mode can’t be energy-saving, and such power consumption is still better than some console heaters.

If you only use the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool for air purifying purpose, and run it 8 hours per day, you only need to pay $16 each year.

Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Additional Features

Dyson Pure Hot+Cool is the most complete device of the Dyson family, with all the hallmark features one could get. Most notably, when you have one device like this, you must need to know about the cooling and heating features whether it works well or not.

With nearly half the fan power of the Dyson Pure Cool Link, Dyson Pure Hot+Cool can’t move the same amount of air as the Pure Cool counterpart. The airflow has a bit slower speed, but it is still enough to cool your head in the hottest summer days.

In Heat Mode, the fan speeds are the same, only give you a superb blast of hot air enveloping you instead. If you only want to purify the air, you can use the Diffused Mode to change the airflow to back of the fan instead.

As a fan itself, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool has an oscillation setting to move the air back and forth, as well as 10 fan speed settings with uninterrupted stream of purified airflow (named Air Multiplier technology). This air purifier also has basic Timer setting, from 15 minutes to 9 hours, as well as a good Standby mode.

In our today Dyson Pure Hot+Cool HP01, we don’t have any smart features like Smart Sensor or Wi-Fi capability feature. If you prefer such high-end functions, you should search for the Dyson HP02, or upgrade to Dyson HP04 instead. From the Dyson Link app, you can do anything like using the remote control, plus the ability to set the schedule for different days.

Talking about our remote control, it is still magnetic, so you can stick it with the air purifier easily. It is a little more packed than the predecessors, because it has the temperature control. However, the remote is designed wise, in a meaning of minimalism.

Our verdict

Even if you don’t upgrade to the latest Dyson HP04, the basic Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link is a super cool air purifier to use, with all the temperature management functions. Our only problem is the price of this air purifier, which is a bit higher than usual.

However, its performance can’t compare with other air purifiers in the same price range. Actually, it can’t even beat an air purifier in $200 range at the moment.
