Other Blueair’s Air Purifier Reviews:

Blueair DustMagnet 5240i Price

The Blueair DustMagnet 5240i is an air purifier for people who don’t mind paying for the privilege. It’s basically the same air purifier as the Blueair DustMagnet 5210i, with a textile gray color instead of matte white. Other than that, if you’re from our previous review of the original DustMagnet 5200 series, you can skip this review, apart from the price section.

This air purifier is announced alongside its brothers, including of both the Blueair DustMagnet 5410i and DustMagnet 5440i. Apart from the 5440i version, we were sent 3 DustMagnet series air purifiers for review.

The Blueair DustMagnet 5240i costs you $359, meaning you pay $40 for a new color option. Is it worth the money? In my opinion, I like the premium textile gray coating of the Blueair DustMagnet 5240i, and it helps avoid the dust accumulation on.

If you don’t like the smart features for a reason, both the Blue Pure 311 Auto and Blue Pure 211 Auto offers better performance for their prices. If you’re looking for a competition, the Coway AP-1512HHS, Airmega 250, Winix 9800 and Levoit Core 600S are our recommendations for the best air purifier.

Blueair DustMagnet 5240i Design and Size

The Blueair DustMagnet 5240i’s difference to its former DustMagnet 5210i is the design. Even that, it is a very special air purifier on the market, even from other families of Blueair. It essentially the basic design concept of the whole DustMagnet family, an air purifier with a small “table” on top, so you can put anything on it for convenient.

It has a textile gray color instead of the original matte white which reminds us of the Bissell air320, however I confess that I like the Blueair DustMagnet 5240i more. It is more compact at 20.5 x 8.6 x 8.6 inches, and it does feel more sturdy than the Bissell air purifier, though it is lighter at 10 lbs. The legs is also an excellent design for the Blueair DustMagnet 5240i, as it allows its fan power to optimize the volume of air into the unit, and lowers the dust accumulated in the bottom.

Blueair DustMagnet 5240i will run a strange airflow system concept, with the air inlets on top and bottom, while the air outlets from both sides. That makes me think as the reverse design of the original Blueair Classic 605, which is also applied in the Blueair HealthProtect 7770i. As I must say, even the inexpensive Blueair air purifier seems quality.

The control panel is concealed beneath the table, and with as minimal buttons as it should be, because the Blueair DustMagnet 5240i is a truly smart air purifier. You will operate it either with your smartphone or Alexa voice control.

Blueair DustMagnet 5240i Filters

As the most important criteria to decide the performance of one air purifier, we always look at the quality and material of the air filters, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. Blueair DustMagnet 5240i features the signature HEPASilent technology from the first Blueair device.

  1. Pre-filter – For best performance, you’re required to clean the pre-filter weekly. It can trap large objects of pollutants, to prolong the life time of the Combo Filter.
  2. Combo Filter – The combination of True HEPA filter and Activated Carbon filter, the Blueair DustMagnet 5240i removes light household odors, chemicals, and gases, as well as 99.97% of airborne particles, like pollen, dust, viruses…

Despite the company’s silence, I am confident that this remains the basis of HEPASilent technology, which combines electrostatic charge and mechanical filtration to enhance the HEPA filter’s effectiveness. The Blueair DustMagnet 5240i appears to be a basic “dust-magnet” air purifier with a light carbon cloth connected inside.

Still, the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) has approved this air purifier for its superior performance. Certified by both the CARB and Intertek, the Blueair DustMagnet 5240i does not emit ozone.

Lastly, each Blueair air filter is naturally anti-bacterial and 100 percent recyclable. It has no chemicals or binders.

Blueair DustMagnet 5240i is a bit behind the competition, but it certainly doesn’t lack power. It’s suitably powerful as it can clean 99.7% of all particles down to 0.3 microns in our test of 200 square feet, for 1 hour. Well, that’s a bit behind the Medify MA-35 and Oransi Max, but not by much.

However, the best thing about the combo filter of the DustMagnet 5210i and DustMagnet 5240i is that it is only $44 and can last for 1 year. That’s why its annual cost ranking is great, in fact, it is a lot better than its brother Blue Pure 211 Auto.

Blueair DustMagnet 5240i Room Coverage

The Blueair DustMagnet 5240i is fully approved by the AHAM, hence the manufacturer is not required to provide a room coverage recommendation. Both variants of the 5200 are authorized to clean up to 212 square feet. While this may not be comparable to many other manufacturers on paper, we discovered that any air purifiers with AHAM certification are of higher quality. We therefore consider it an improvement in performance rating.

The ACH of Blueair DustMagnet 5240i is 5X. This ACH rating is certified by AHAM too, so you can enjoy clean air every 12 minutes.

The CADR of Blueair DustMagnet 5240i is 133 Dust/ 137 Smoke/ 140 Pollen (cfm).

Blueair DustMagnet 5240i Sound

Although the Blueair DustMagnet 5240i is not as strong as its siblings, it is extremely quiet. It can reduce the noise level to 23 decibels (dB) at the lowest fan speed, which is comparable to the sound of leaves rustling. This is the effectiveness of HEPASilent technology.

Even on highest fan power, the noise level is only 47 decibels. Fact is, this Blueair DustMagnet 5240i might be the quietest air purifier, performing even better at maximum fan speed than the Blue Pure 311 Auto, the best air purifier for bedroom.

Blueair DustMagnet 5240i Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” An air purifier is meant to run for a long time to be efficient, that’s why many air purifier brands consider the energy-saving standard, mostly in the rate of Energy Star, is one important selling point.

The Blueair DustMagnet 5240i is an Energy Star-certified air purifier with a remarkable CADR rating per watt, since its rated power ranges between 4 and 22 watts. Yes, this is an exceptional air purifier in terms of performance per watt, and it is even superior to its HealthProtect flagship sibling.

If you use the Blueair DustMagnet 5240i for eight hours each day, you’ll pay no more than $8 per year. I consider this to be the most cost-effective air purifier in terms of energy efficiency and inexpensive filter replacement.

Blueair DustMagnet 5240i Additional Features

The Blueair DustMagnet 5240i is a popular choice because to its excellent performance and intelligent features. The Blueair DustMagnet 5240i is remarkably identical to its premium siblings, notably in terms of its Wi-Fi capability. This air purifier may be controlled from anywhere using a smartphone app. It is also compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands.

Obviously, it contains a dust sensor, as the air purifier itself is a dust magnet. The Smart Sensor may engage Auto Mode, which adjusts fan speed to fluctuating pollution levels and returns to a slower speed when the air quality improves. A sophisticated sensor automatically turns on or off the gadget whenever you enter or exit the room.

The unique feature of the DustMagnet series is its Auto Start function, which restarts the unit at the predetermined speed in the event of a power loss, unplugging, or usage of a power switch timer.

Night mode is accessible as an excellent resource for the bedroom. In night mode, the DustMagnet air purifier disables functions that are unnecessary when sleeping. This includes setting to a whisper-quiet low speed and activating the Air Quality Indicator LED light.

The DustMagnet 5240i will notify you when it is time to replace the filter, so you no longer need to keep track of it.

Our verdict

Blueair DustMagnet 5240i does as similar as its own brother – Blueair DustMagnet 5210i. If you don’t want to spend $40 more for the textile gray color option, you should get the 5210i version instead.
