Blueair is looking to offer high-performance hybrid air purifiers that are more affordable than Dyson. The Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i is the next model in the lineup and serves as a clear upgrade over last year’s Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify DH3i. So, what can you expect from this new air purifier? You will have your answer in this Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i review.

Other Blueair’s Air Purifier Reviews:

Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i Price

When it comes to hybrid air purifier and humidifier units, the main options are either Dyson, with its very high price tags, or Sharp, with bulkier machines that can sometimes raise humidity more than expected.

Now with the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify, the company shows it can deliver a strong air purifier and humidifier combo at a mid-range price. However, there is still room for improvement. That’s why we now have the newer Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i, released just one year after the first model.

But as expected, the better it is, the higher the price. The Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i launches at $499, about $70 more than its predecessor. Even so, it remains more affordable than options like the Dyson PH04, which can exceed $700, and the Sharp KC-P70UW.

Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i Design and Size

If the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify tries to be as simple as possible, the new Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro takes a different approach. Instead of following the same design, it offers a more premium “Pro” version with an improved air intake system and a more refined night light design.

The Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i is slightly shorter than its predecessor, with a height of around 24.6 inches. Its footprint remains similar, with a round design measuring about 12.5 inches in diameter. At 18.5 lbs, it is also slightly lighter, though the user experience is nothing different.

In this air purifier, we can see that Blueair adopts the common 360° airflow system. It simplifies filter replacement by using a single filter; however, the larger grilles make cleaning the unit more complicated. We still have the same top-pour concept to refill water, and this time, the water tank is bigger at 1.3 gallon. You can still choose to access the water tank from bottom, but we don’t recommend doing it.

Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i Filters

We check the performance of one air purifiers based on its air filters’ quality and material, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. The Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro still uses the same 1-stage air cleaning system from the previous model.

  1. Particle filter – Instead of using a True HEPA filter, the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro runs a polypropylene fiber filter to help capture 99.97% of all allergens as small as 0.3 microns like dust, dust mites, pet dander, pollen and fungi (HEPASilent technology).

Inside the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro is the proprietary HEPASilent filtration technology, the same system used across the Blueair lineup. It adds an electrostatic charge within the filter chamber to improve particle capture. It also helps loosen the filter media, enhancing real-world CADR performance.

We do the same test for the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro like its “non-Pro” version, in the same chamber of 400 square feet, for 1 hour. The result, the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro did even better by capturing 99.08% of all particles down to 0.3 microns. It’s also far better than the Blueair PetAir Pro, Comfort T10i and Comfort T20i from the same brand. It is a tie with the Airmega 250, but the performance is still slightly behind the AeraMax SE.

Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i review

Previously, you need to buy a set consisting of 3 filters for the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify, which is quite complex to replace. It is better to use a cylindrical form, then you only need to replace one time. The filter is recommended to replace after 9 months, and the annual cost is overall better.

Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i Room Coverage

Because the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i is new, at the time of writing the product isn’t certified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM). Blueair recommends to use the air purifier for room up to 1875 square feet, but we believe it is based on 1 ACH.

The ACH of the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro is 1X. No AHAM score means the recommended room coverage is only for the largest number possible.

The CADR of the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro is 250 cfm in general. In Breathe Quality test, the result of the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i is a little bit stronger than the previous Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify.

Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i Sound

The Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro runs at a quieter noise level on the lowest speed, at 20 decibels (dB). It is just like the sound of the rustling leaves.

What matters here is that the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro has stronger fan power while maintaining a lower noise level than the previous model. There are likely some technical improvements in the fan motor that help keep the noise down.

Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” An air purifier is meant to run for a long time to be efficient, that’s why many air purifier brands consider the energy-saving standard, mostly in the rate of Energy Star, is one important selling point.

The Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro has a rated power of 60 watts, however, it doesn’t have Energy Star rating like its predecessor.

If you run the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro for 8 hours per day, you need to spend $26 annually.

Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i Additional Features

This is a hybrid air purifier+humidifier combo, so the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i features a very modern humidifying feature. Its humidifying function is a step above older products like the Sharp KC-860U or Sharp KC-P70UW. The reason? It has an UV-C light to sterilize the pump, and wick filter to minor the debris from tap water. It is the similar technology from Dyson, thus preventing harmful mist from your indoor air.

You can use the smartphone app to remotely control the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro, as well as adjust the Night light, set the schedule or check filter life whenever you want. It is a convenient and modern feature for your air purifier.

There are two Smart Sensors in the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro, one for the air quality and one for the humidity. Both work well, and you can activate the Auto Mode to automatically maintain the best air quality and humidity in your home. It also have a sensor to check whether the water tank is empty or not.

The Auto dry setting is still available, to keep the wick filter dry and away from mold, mildew and viruses.

Our verdict

Although the Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify Pro DH5i is not currently certified by AHAM, we can confidently say it is a step up from the original Blueair 2-in-1 Purify+Humidify – though at $70 more. For that price difference, it may not be worth upgrading.
