In a world of low-range air purifiers, we can see tons of microbrands that may only be recognized by the U.S residents. The SilverOnyx is one air purifier from a brand like that, a brand that they apply their name for their most popular air purification device, instead of thinking a new cool name to call it. If you need a pause from the big air purifier brands, we are happy to introduce to you the SilverOnyx Review, which is for the amazing 5-in-1 air purifier of a company in Utah.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We do give honest reviews (both pros and cons) so anyone will guarantee to have the wisest choices.
- We do not (and never) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.
- Impressive air filtration process
- Accurate Smart Sensor
- Elegant design
- Really quiet with the Advanced brushless DC motor
- Low CADR rating for room coverage
- The True HEPA filter is not the best
The SilverOnyx is not an air purifier specializing brand. In fact, this American brand has name in many electronic appliances like vacuum cleaners, pressure cookers and sound therapy. As a native American company that is located in Salt Lake City – Utah, the SilverOnyx provides free shipping for any products under their name. The SilverOnyx is proudly the first air purifier of this brand, and it has gained quite a lot of loyal customers. If you want to be one of them, you should be ready to read our SilverOnyx Review.
Other SilverOnyx’s Air Purifier Reviews:
This svelte budget offering has curves and specifications in all of the right places and offers up a solid user experience. Issues with low CADR rating and a short filter life prevent it from being an instant recommendation however, despite the excellent price.
After the release of the SilverOnyx 3-in-1 in 2019, we can see a massive discount of the SilverOnyx on the original website. In the time of writing, you will enjoy a $55 OFF for this SilverOnyx 5-in-1 air purifier. This old entry in the veteran and budget manufacturer’s product line launched at $179, but it is only $124 at the moment. The price can fluctuate quickly, and you should click our button below to know the current price for this SilverOnyx.
But with a sea of grey imports available to the discerning buyer, and stiff competition from the likes of Winix, Honeywell and Guardian Technologies, does this air purifier in SilverOnyx name do quite enough to earn a recommendation?
Like I have mentioned, the race in an under-$200 market never end well for any air purifier brands that can’t keep up with the lap. Popular names to be recommended could be the Winix C535, Winix 5300-2, or Winix 5500-2, with high fan power and great PlasmaWave technology from the Korean brand. Other American brands like Honeywell and Guardian Technologies have a series of air purifier that can meet your budget, no matter what it is. And don’t forget the tower air purifier of Coway – the Coway AP-1216L, with near performance as even the mighty Coway AP-1512HH.
There is no confirmation as to whether this device will stay at the discounted price forever, so I hope you could grab the deal on time.

SilverOnyx Design and Size
Typically, buying a handset this cheap implies a few sacrifices, mainly in design stakes. Those taking the plunge can usually expect the premium materials, if not for a steel housing (plastic housing is popular even in the high-end air purifiers), then they must demand a device that can stand firmly with a big fan inside.
Against this, the SilverOnyx comes across as a device really trying to make a difference, not the typical tower design as in the GermGuardian AC5250PT, GermGuardian AC5350B or even the Honeywell AirGenius 3. The SilverOnyx is portable, but it is not the kind of Levoit LV-PUR131 or Oransi OV200, either. Instead, you will think the SilverOnyx as one who resembles the Levoit LV-H132 and Levoit LV-H133 much more.
Yes, this is indeed the cylinder-shape air purifier design, which is also the most popular concept since the era of Levoit air purifiers on Amazon. The SilverOnyx is 13 inches in height, which is even smaller than the Levoit LV-H132. This is the reasonable size for a bedroom air purifier, and you can put the SilverOnyx on any side table in your home. This shape is also ideal to make a strong footprint for an air purifier, one thing that is extremely important when you have kids.
You can find the air intake grill from the back of this air purifier, right under the power input connecting port and the power switch. Only remember one thing, just like any other air purifiers, you should avoid blocking the air inlet of this SilverOnyx, or put it against the wall. By doing it, you will reduce the efficiency of your air purifier a lot.
The SilverOnyx makes use of the common bottom-to-top air flow system concept, which is the most efficient way to circulate the indoor air with its design. To enjoy the fresh air, you must check the top air outlet grill, covered by the side outlet to distribute the air in 360°.
SilverOnyx is an air purifier with lots of features, so you shouldn’t expect a simple control panel. Instead, you will use one air purifier with a digital display screen, as well as 9 functional buttons as below.

There are 3 available color options for this SilverOnyx air purifier. My testing unit today is a Black version, but you can select the White or the Silver instead. The Silver version is really premium, and it matches completely with the name of this air purifier.
The SilverOnyx is only 4 lbs, such weight that even the children can pick it up and throw it away. So you had better keep this air purifier away from the reach of your children.

What typically marks a handset at or around this low a price point is the presence of any air filters, never mind many. But the SilverOnyx offers more than enough to pay attention to. Because the air filtration process is the most important part to decide the performance of one air purifier, the 5-stage air cleaning system of SilverOnyx is, somehow, incredible.
- Pre-filter – A mesh pre-filter will help you capture the larger particles like hair and pet dander. It is attached to the HEPA filter, so you can’t wash it.
- True HEPA filter – The SilverOnyx uses the H13 True HEPA filter to remove 99.97% of dust and allergens up to 0.3 microns in size.
- Activated Carbon filter – You will need this layer of filtration to neutralize the household odors and smoke.
- Ionizer – Vital ionize destroys harmful airborne allergens. Can be switched on/off.
- UV-C light filter – The SilverOnyx can destroy contaminants like mold and germs with the help of this UV-C bulb and photocatalyst.
Yes, the SilverOnyx is an air purifier that combines all 4 main air filter types in the air cleaner market. This combination is truly powerful, as each air filter has its own advantages and disadvantages, and by combining all of them, you will maximize the performance of each air filter.
The SilverOnyx uses an H13-class True HEPA filter, which is also the most popular True HEPA being used in the market. It has 60% larger surface area than flat filters of air purifiers with same weight, and thanks to more filter media, this HEPA filter can clean much better.
The negative ion generator is another method to help capture the airborne particles effectively. By emitting the negative ions, this SilverOnyx can electrostatically attract the contaminants (which is positively charged ions) toward the physical True HEPA filter. The process can even trap the 0.1 microns particles.
Finally, we will have an UV-C light sanitizer to remove harmful elements in the air such as mold spores, germs and viruses. This is the reason why this SilverOnyx is one of the best air purifiers for mold. Unlike other types of UV light, the UV-C light is harmless to humans and animals. Moreover, it is deep inside the air purifier, and there is no way it will emit the light out.
Again, I would like to put the SilverOnyx to a performance test. This air purifier is suggested for a room of 500 square feet, so I doubt the CADR rating is sufficient for such large room. So I made two separate tests for this SilverOnyx air purifier. One test is in a room of 150 square feet, and another is in a room of 500 square feet. In both tests, I set the duration to be 1 hour.
As you can see from the first chart, the SilverOnyx reached an efficiency of 99.92% for trapping any pollutants down to 0.3 microns. The result is a bit lower than the Coway AP-1512HH or Honeywell HPA200, but this air purifier is much better than the Levoit LV-PUR131, AeraMax 200 and PureZone Elite.
The next test, as I expected, the SilverOnyx can’t hold much efficiency in such large space. It efficiency dropped to only 95% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns. But testing against other devices that are suggested for 500 square feet, like Alen T500, Alen Paralda, Alen BreatheSmart FLEX, Oransi OV200 and Oransi Finn, we can believe the performance of this SilverOnyx is still a lot better.
You should change the HEPA filter every 6 months, and with the filter cost of $34, I guess that the annual filter replacement cost is not a big deal for you, right?

SilverOnyx Room Coverage
Just like many other air purifier brands in the U.S, the SilverOnyx will try to bluff you into thinking that the air purifier is actually for a large room. If you read the advertisement, the SilverOnyx is capable of cleaning a room of 500 square feet. This is a really large room coverage, but you need to check the CADR rating below to see if this air purifier is actually sufficient for the room size or not.
The ACH of SilverOnyx is 5X. With 5 fan speeds, the SilverOnyx can clean your room every 12 minutes.
The CADR of SilverOnyx is only 83 cfm in general. With such low CADR rating, the SilverOnyx is still able to clean a room of 500 square feet, but it may take about 5 hours to fully remove 99.97% any airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns. This CADR rating is even lower than the Blue Pure 411 and GermGuardian AC4825, which is supposed for a much smaller room.

Normally, an air purifier with weak fan power will generate less noise. That’s why I came with great expectations for the noise level of this SilverOnyx. And for the most part, the SilverOnyx is indeed a quietness champ.
A typical day involving running this air purifier at the lowest setting, I measured that the noise level is about 25 decibels. This is exactly the noise level of something like the whisper, and it is also the reason to buy the Rabbit Air MinusA2 Ultra Quiet air purifier.
This is a very great result, and I found the highest noise level of this SilverOnyx is stable with 56 decibels (db). This noise level is a lot better than the Honeywell and GermGuardian air purifiers.

SilverOnyx Power Consumption
In Breathe Quality, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient, and therefore, power consumption is an important criteria to decide which air purifier to buy.
The SilverOnyx is a strong contender for the throne of energy-saving champ at the level of only 24 watts for the maximum power consumption. This is all thanks to the advanced brushless DC motor and low-voltage DC of this air purifier. In low-range segment, only the Blue Pure 411 can compare with the SilverOnyx in terms of energy saver.
For running the SilverOnyx 8 hours per day, you need to pay only $9 annually. Yes, and this is the max cost for running this air purifier at the highest setting. In real-world use, you will need to pay much less, because the Smart Sensor of this air purifier can keep it running low as often as possible.

SilverOnyx Additional Features
The SilverOnyx packs with lots of additional features. And it is reasonable, as the additional features are the top selling point to focus on. For the price, you will have the Smart Sensor, one thing that only the AeraMax 100 and AeraMax 200 are able to compete with the SilverOnyx. This PM2.5 sensor will detect any change in the indoor air quality, and adjust air flow to ensure the highest quality air. Using the Auto Mode (Smart Sensor), you can set it and forget it totally, as the Smart Sensor is the most effective way to reduce the overall power consumption, while keeping the indoor air quality as good as possible.
Aside from the buttons to turn on/off the ionizer and UV light functions, you can use the Sleep mode to instantly dim the light on the top control panel, and reduce the fan speed to low setting. This is a great bedtime setting, that is only featured in a bedroom air purifier like this SilverOnyx. You also have the Timer, to schedule when your air purifier needs to turn off, and the range can be from 30 minutes to maximum of 24 hours.
Finally, we still have the electronic filter replacement indicator. You don’t need to put a reminder, as this air purifier will always alert you on time.
SilverOnyx Customer Service
Beside from the great products, SilverOnyx truly concerns about the customer service, and this is one thing that I highly recommend you to choose this brand. If you want to buy their air purifiers, you will have the wonderful free shipping. But remember, your orders must be over $99 to meet the policy’s requirement. All domestic orders will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail, and need 3 to 5 business days to complete the shipment.
If you have any questions about your order, or a specific product, you can reach them via phone at 801-341-2845, or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Their working days are from Monday to Friday.
In case you aren’t happy with the SilverOnyx’s air purifier, you can return the items within 30 days of delivery, and of course you are responsible for return shipping costs. They only provide an 1-year warranty for their air purifiers, but I believe it is enough to test your air purifier.
If you are going to run the SilverOnyx for a much smaller room than 500 square feet, this could be the best budget air purifier you can get. Low noise level, very low power consumption and a great, great air filtration process are everything you need to spend around $120 without thinking.
Should I buy SilverOnyx?
Yes, but I also recommend to check the AeraMax 100 for a comparison.
- If you have serious allergies or asthma to airborne pollutants: the SilverOnyx is very powerful with the combination of all 4 air filter types.
- If you want a better performance, or better fan power to clean your room faster: you should look for the Winix C535, Winix 5300-2 or Winix 5500-2. The Winix WAC9500 and Honeywell HPA300 also have better fan than this SilverOnyx.
- If you need an air purifier with a better room coverage: you can buy the Blue Pure 211, as it can clean a room of 540 square feet.
- If you need a budget version of this air purifier: you should opt in for the AeraMax 100, or search for the Honeywell HFD-010.
- If you need a more silent air purifier: this is the most silent air purifier you can get, but I recommend you to check the Coway AP-1512HH and Coway AP-0512NH, too.
- If you care about the annual filter cost and energy cost: this SilverOnyx has the best energy cost for the price, and the annual filter cost is only higher than the Coway AP-1512HH or Winix 5300-2.
- If you love the additional features: you can select between the GermGuardian CDAP5500BCA, Honeywell HPA250B, Levoit LV-PUR131S and Blueair Sense+ for both the Smart Wifi connectivity and Smart Sensor functions.
- Cleaning Power
- Power Consumption
Great option for the low-range market, especially when you can get it on sale.
