Winix brings the great alternative for the favorite Winix AM90 last year, and the new black air purifier feels premium and compact, and it can tackle most impurities in medium and large living spaces. So, today we will talk more with our Winix AM80 Review.
Winix AM80 Price
Winix usually is one of the most active air purifier brands in the world. The company has at least 40 models of air purifying system, with major adjustments for specific location. The Winix AM80 and the previous Wi-Fi model Winix AM90 are heavily influenced by the trio Winix C535, Winix 5300-2 and Winix 5500-2. In fact, the Winix AM90 is likely to be the Winix C545 of the North America region, following up by the Winix 9800.
The Winix AM80 is basically a rebadged Winix C535 for the same reason, which in turn is the 5500-2 model but with a new, modern design that suits our taste better. We’re never be able to know how and why Winix names its models, but I believe this is one of the cheapest Winix air purifiers you can buy right now, along with the Winix A230.
At $249 in official Winix website, you will have this Winix AM80. However, make sure to check our deal to get the air purifier cheaper, sometimes lower than $199.
Currently, the Winix AM80 is easily the top pick for less than $200, thanks to its dual air sensors and high fan power. Other competitors like the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2, Coway Airmega 150, GermGuardian AC5109 or Hunter HP700 lacks either one or two air sensors, while the Levoit LV-PUR131 or Bissell air220 are just weaker.
However, with the new release of the Levoit Vital 200S and Bissell air180, the Winix AM80 still needs to take caution.
Winix AM80 True HEPA air purifier, 360 sq ft, Dark Gray, Large.
Suitable for medium and large rooms, bedrooms and kitchens. Have dual air sensors and washable Advanced Odor Control carbon filter.

Winix AM80 Design and Size
In terms of design, the Winix AM80 is necessarily the Winix AM90 with dark gray color option, as it shares the same design with its previous brother. That means the air purifier sits in between the top globally popular devices of the company, the Winix C535 and Winix C545.
The front grills are made of perforated holes, in random position which is obvious the South Korean style. This is the Design Award by IF in 2018, and also the Reddot design winner in the same year. The new Winix AM80 feels even more solid and premium than the old AM90 model.
Its dimensions remain the same at 23.5 inches in height and 15 inches in width. The Winix AM80 uses the same bottom-to-top airflow system concept like nearly every Winix models, which is the most suitable airflow direction for home use.
Again, we have the top control panel beside the outlet air grill, luckily the same with the AM90.
The Winix AM80 weighs 16.5 lbs, making it a bit heavier than the normal Winix air purifiers of same size. The handle is quite inconvenient, and moving this air purifier around your home proves a bit difficulty.

Winix AM80 Filters
Winix AM80 is a common unit between the Winix army, featuring a signature 4-stage air cleaning system.
- Pre-filter – The polluted air must pass through a built-in pre-filter. This pre-filter will help capture the large objects of contaminants, such as pet hair and even some kinds of pet dander and skin.
- Activated Carbon Filter – The air filter can adsorb household odors from cooking, pets, and smoke and reduce VOCs.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter that captures 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles.
- Winix PlasmaWave – This technology is one kind of ionizer, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.
Unlike the Winix 5300-2 and Winix 5500-2, the Winix AM80 separates the pre-filter and the Advanced Odor Control (AOC) carbon filter (still, the carbon filter is washable). Make sure to dry both air filters before putting back in the air purifier, or else the air purifier won’t work.
Its high performance is inherited from the Winix AM90, using the signature PlasmaWave technology and True HEPA filter to safely break down odor, allergens, chemical vapors and other pollutants with no harmful ozone. Also, it can capture even the microorganisms as small as 0.3 microns.
We made the same test for the Winix AM80 like every other Winix devices, at a room of 250 square feet and under 1 hour. The Winix AM80 performed pretty good as it cleaned 99.92% of all particles down to 0.3 microns, just like the Airmega 200M of Coway, and it was better than the Bissell air400 or Medify MA-25. The only air purifier which was better than our today Winix AM80 is the Blue Pure 311 Auto – one of our best air purifiers in latest list.
The Winix AM80 uses the same filter A just like the Winix AM90, as well as a filter U for the pre-filter. You can grab the air filter from our below deal.

The ACH of Winix AM80 is 4X. The air purifier can clean your room every 15 minutes.

Winix AM80 Sound
Winix AM80 is basically the Winix AM90 without Wi-Fi connection, so it can handle the noise level pretty good. In fact, Winix manages its air purifiers to operate at minimum of only 27 decibels (dB).
On high speed, the Winix AM80 can reach 54 decibels, and I recommend you to turn on the Smart Sensor to automatically reduce the fan speed while sleeping.

Winix AM80 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.
Winix AM80 is an Energy Star rated air purifier, so we can use the air purifier without worrying about our energy bill. The power consumption is just 65 watts for its high fan power.
For using the Winix AM80 8 hours per day, it would cost you about $23 per year.

Winix AM80 Additional Features
Winix AM80 is just the Winix AM90 minus the Wi-Fi capability function, so you will keep the most important Smart Sensor, which changes in real time based on air quality. If the air quality indicator is good, the Auto Mode will run at the lowest fan speed.
The Sleep Mode is available in this Winix AM80, so you don’t need to manually reduce the fan speed while sleeping. When it detects low light, it automatically activates the Sleep Mode.
The Winix AM80 features a simple LED indicator for filter replacement, to remind you exactly when you need to change the air filter.
