A stunning air purifier with a number of high end features that work in the way you’d want them to – the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 could well be the air purifier of this year. It lacks some important things to keep up with the competition, but you can’t forget about its amazing power to clean extra-large rooms.

After unleashing the massively impressive Filtrete FAP-C03BA-G2 and its white counterpart – the Filtrete FAP-C03-A2, the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 is here, bigger, taller and more powerful and still packing the necessary Filtrete’s features.

It might be the FAP-T03-A2 rebadged, but this is a behemoth of an air purifier in its own right; has Filtrete tried to do too much?

Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 costs only $219 in some retailers (notice that Filtrete doesn’t officially announce the price on their website). It’s $50 higher than the previous model: the FAP-C03BA-G2, and it’s only available in black color option.

It has a mighty fan power, together with a high-quality air filter to compete in the most aggressively competitive market. The Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 is equivalent to the Honeywell HPA200 and Winix 5500-2, in terms of performance. You can also find the Bissell air220, Medify MA-25 or Elechomes UC3101 for the money, but they are all one level lower than our today unit.

Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 Design and Size

While the Filtrete FAP-C02WA-G2 was all about style and functionality in its compact console design, the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 takes a slightly different approach. It gives us a feeling of powerful and durable air purifier, with the huge size tower form.

Together with its white counterpart – model FAP-T03-A2, the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 is the biggest air purifier of the family, with the height of 29.3 inches. However, the base is smaller than the Filtrete FAP-C03BA-G2, with the width at 11.8 inches only.

That means the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 can easily compare with the biggest tower air purifiers in the world, like the Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020, GermGuardian AC9400 and/or Medify MA-112. The best part? This air purifier is the most affordable air cleaning system you can get, with equal performance to the flagships of Rowenta and GermGuardian.

But while the size is massive, the air purifier itself doesn’t seem gargantuan. With such small base, the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 fits your room easier than its predecessors. Also, the air purifier isn’t too heavy, with the weight of only 14.4 lbs.

The Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 still runs the bottom-to-top air flow system concept, which is quite strange in the world of tower air purifiers. However, this air flow direction proves to give better efficiency than the traditional back-to-front. Unlike its brothers, Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 draws the polluted air from both sides.

Its top control panel is now placing above the air outlet, instead of below in the previous models. It is still the same control board, with legible and simple buttons.

Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 Filters

As the top manufacturer of high-quality True HEPA filter, Filtrete really wants the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 to be the best air purifier ever. You will have the in-house 2-stage air cleaning system in this air purifier, which is also certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

1. True HEPA filter – Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 uses an in-house True HEPA Filter to reduce 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns allergens like mites and pet dander, virus particles, mold spores, pollen, germs and bacteria particles.
2. Activated Carbon Filter – This in-house Activated Carbon filter adsorb unwanted odors and fume such as cooking smells, smoke, ammonia and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

The Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 entered the most difficult test for Filtrete family easily. In the room of 200 square feet, the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 captured 99.93% of airborne particles down to 0.3 microns, which was better than even the more expensive air purifiers like Sharp FP-K50UW or Vornado AC550.

Just like Honeywell, Filtrete is confident with their in-house air filter, and the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 will use the same air filter F2 as its smaller brothers. However, the filter’s life time is short, because it lasts for only 6 months.

Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 Sound

Filtrete is excellent at keeping the noise down, but it is a real challenge to make their flagship “ultra-quiet” with such high fan power. In air purifier world, generally the higher fan power, the noisier.

This means the highest noise level of Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 can be 58 decibels, so you shouldn’t use the quick cleaning setting while sleeping.

But after that, with the great fan motor, the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 is able to keep the noise level as low as 32 decibels (db). Such noise level is just like the whisper, and as I said was pretty flawless.

Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

Sadly, the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 isn’t rated as Energy Star. Perhaps the power consumption of 135 watts is too much for even Filtrete to send this unit for a rating.

The Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2 is a powerful air purifier with the well-known in-house air filter to support it. It’s got a huge fan power, verified by the AHAM, to cover even the extra-large rooms (up to 370 sq ft).

Coming just after the Filtrete FAP-C03BA-G2, it improves with the new tower design concept, and doesn’t forget the premium black color option. It is truly the iconic Filtrete air purifier.

While I liked nearly every single thing on the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2, I must admit that this air purifier should have the Smart Sensor feature. Adding some additional features to a high-end product will return in more sales. We should hope for the next-gen Filtrete air purifiers, right?
