Other AirDoctor’s Air Purifier Reviews:

AirDoctor AD1000 Price

The AirDoctor AD1000 is the best bargain-adjacent option for anyone who wants AirDoctor’s UltraHEPA filtration without stepping up to the brand’s mid-size units, like the AirDoctor AD3500 and the AirDoctor AD5500.

However, if you think the next-in-line AirDoctor AD2000 will be pricier than today’s AirDoctor AD1000, think again. The AirDoctor AD1000 shares the same performance and filtration system as the AD2000, so it costs nearly the same at $419. You should check our deal to ensure you get the 10% discount, but even then, the AirDoctor AD1000 is nearly the same price as the AD2000.

At this price point, the AirDoctor AD1000 faces against lots of smart options like the Blue Signature Large, Blue Pure 211i Max, Levoit EverestAir and Alen BreatheSmart 45i. Not only smarter, they all have better performance than our today AirDoctor AD1000.

And if you say you don’t need the Wi-Fi capability feature, you can still choose the Coway Airmega 450, AeraMax SE or Medify MA-112, and its performance can even as high as the AirDoctor AD4000. It isn’t easy to compete in the mid-range segment without a few tricks up your sleeve.

AirDoctor AD1000 Design and Size

The AirDoctor AD1000 is the AirDoctor tower air purifier, so it borrows a few thing in design of the old AD5000 (now the AirDoctor AD5500). If you wanted a smaller, more bedroom-friendly footprint of the AirDoctor AD2000, the AirDoctor AD1000 delivers.

Sure, it is as tall as the AirDoctor AD3500 at 23 inches, but its width of only 9 inches make the AirDoctor AD1000 perfect for small rooms. As a tower air purifier, we can guess that the AirDoctor AD1000 to have 360° air inlet, so placing the unit will be more complex than the usual console air purifiers.

The housing is plastic, not metal, but the matte finish and compact footprint make it look more considered than the boxy plastic purifiers of a decade ago. The halo ring of air quality will go to the top control panel, like what you usually find on budget cylindrical air purifiers. Well, I miss the signature ring of the AirDoctor on front, but it’s the company’s decision.

The AirDoctor AD1000 is only 10 lbs, as it is meant to be moved around your home.

AirDoctor AD1000 Filters

The AirDoctor AD1000 is certainly an air purifier from this company, featuring the usual 4-stage air cleaning system, which starts from the AirDoctor AD3000.

  1. Pre-filter – The pre-filter is designed to remove larger contaminates like dust and animal hair.
  2. UltraHEPA filter – The True HEPA filter of AirDoctor, which is designed to capture ultra-fine PM 2.5 particles from the air. It is “independently tested” to remove 100% of airborne particles at 0.003 microns in size, 100 times smaller than the HEPA standard.
  3. Activated Carbon filter – AirDoctor calls this filter a dual-action Carbon and VOC filter, as it can removes toxic ozone, gas, odors and VOCs from your indoor air. It can last for 6 months.
  4. Ionizer – It can remove the smells and odors, and helps the air fresh. Can be switched on/off.

The AirDoctor AD1000 is meant for small rooms, which is something not appropriate for its price point. As a result, it is expected to run poorly in the test designed for this price point. As you can see, the AirDoctor AD1000 has an efficiency of only 94.21% after 1 hour, and though it is better than the Nuwave OxyPure Zero E500, it is worse than other competitors like the Shark HP302, Shark HP362, Nuwave Forever 47268 and Nuwave OxyPure Zero 47251.

However, the AirDoctor AD1000 has a better annual filter cost than its brothers, with an all-in-one air filter at only $91 for 1 year.

AirDoctor AD1000 Room Coverage

The AirDoctor AD1000 has a very humble suggested room size from the manufacturer, at only 285 square feet. We believe this is the correct room coverage of this air purifier.

The ACH of the AirDoctor AD1000 is 4X. If you’re going to use the air purifier in the manufacturer’s suggested room size, it will clean every 15 minutes.

The CADR of the AirDoctor AD1000 is 152 cfm in general. The CADR is lower than a $200 Blue Pure 311i Max or Winix 5510.

AirDoctor AD1000 Sound

The AirDoctor air purifiers are never meant for quiet operation, and the AirDoctor AD1000 is no exception. Its lowest noise level is recorded at 34 decibels (dB), which is quite high for an air purifier with such low fan power.

On its highest speed, the noise level of the AirDoctor AD1000 can reach 54 dB, equivalent to the common fan noise.

AirDoctor AD1000 Power Consumption

As one of the most criteria when deciding to buy an air purifier, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient.

The AirDoctor AD1000 never gets itself an Energy Star certification, but its power consumption is nearly identical to the AirDoctor AD2000 at 50 watts.

So to say, if you run the AirDoctor AD1000 for 8 hours per day, you will pay for $21.92 each year.

AirDoctor AD1000 Additional Features

The AirDoctor AD1000 never experience the Wi-Fi capability like its brothers. Instead you need to rely on the common dust air sensor of the unit, which automatically adjusts the fan speed based on the current air quality.

Other than that, we still have a timer, a light dimmer setting and a LED indicator for filter replacement. Quite basic, but it works.

Our verdict

The AirDoctor AD1000 is just an average pick, which is… not a great option in our modern language. At its price point, we can buy better products with better smart features, as well as better annual cost. So, we can’t really recommend the AirDoctor AD1000, even when it isn’t terrible.
