This is an air purifier that manages to hold its own alongside flagship devices from companies that have enormous pots of money to spend on research, development and design, and a decade or more of experience making air purifiers.

Medify Air has always made impressive air purifiers at sub-flagship prices, but with this iteration the American startup has learned from previous mistakes, and built on its successes, to create an all-round fantastic air cleaner device.

The Medify MA-40 sits higher than the Medify MA-Smart and Medify MA-25 in price, placing it firmly in mid-range segment with $349. But if you look for the air purifier in Medify Air’s website, you can find it usually down to only $249, which is $100 cheaper. It’s quite reasonable, because Medify Air decided to put in more power.

Levoit did a far better response with the current Levoit Core 600S. You can also find the Winix AM90 or Blue Pure 211i Max in this price range, and both these devices have the Smart Wi-Fi connectivity function, something that the Medify MA-40 missed from the MA-Smart.

Medify MA-40 Design and Size

For some people, the Medify MA-40 is the best-looking device the company has made to date. Even the next-gen Medify MA-112 is following the design concept from this popular air purifier.

The Medify MA-40 is made in rectangular design than previous iterations, which means it stands firmly in the height of 22 inches and width of 10 inches. This size makes the air purifier smaller than both the Levoit LV-H135 at 25 inches and the Winix AM90 at 23.5 inches.

The Medify MA-40 feels premium with the perforated holes in the air grill. The device is clean and simple, which has rooted in Medify Air’s design from the first Medify MA-14 to the newest Medify MA-15. You will have an unusual back-to-front air flow system concept for a price in mid-range segment, however, it works very well for the overall shape of the Medify MA-40.

Medify MA-40 Filters

Moreover, the Medify MA-40 is fully tested by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for meeting the safety ozone emission of 0.05 parts per million (ppm). This is a must-have standard for one product to be shipped and used in California, and with this certification, you can enjoy using the Medify MA-40, as it never trigger asthma or any other breathing issues.

In 2026, we reworked the air purifier ranking list, and the Medify MA-40 takes a more difficult test reflecting its price point. However, it overcomes it easily, capturing 99.75% of all particles down to 0.3 microns. That performance is far better than more expensive devices like the Alen BreatheSmart 35i and Coway AP-1512HHS.

There is only one disadvantage to use the H13 HEPA filter from Medify Air – the short filter life. You can only use it for 6 months, and replacing it at $59 each time is truly high for an affordable device.

Medify MA-40 Room Coverage

The big headline performance-wise is that Medify Air has decided to upgrade the performance of the Medify MA-40 a lot. It can cover a room of 400 square feet, which is better than even the more expensive Medify MA-440. At the moment, the Medify MA-40 v3.0 is verified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), for rooms up to 374 square feet.

The ACH of the Medify MA-40 is 5X. If the Medify MA-40 does only two exchanges in 1 hour, it can cover a space of 800 square feet. And for an ACH rating of 1X, the room coverage can be 1300 square feet.

The CADR of the Medify MA-40 is 287 Dust/ 241 Smoke/ 332 Pollen (cfm). It is far better than the very original version of this air purifier with CADR of 186 Dust/ 206 Smoke/ 246 Pollen (cfm).

Medify MA-40 Sound

Medify Air doesn’t boast about the silent operation in the Medify MA-40 just like the latest Medify MA-440. That means the air purifier can’t hide the noise from its powerful fan, and if you want a device to clean the air in your bedroom, you should run on lowest speed.

The noise level of the Medify MA-40 is measured to be 65 decibels (dB) on highest speed, which is fairly noisy to accept. The good news is that you have a Smart Sensor, to manage the fan speed as low as possible anytime.

Medify MA-40 Power Consumption

There is no Smart Wi-Fi connectivity function in this air purifier, which is exclusively for the Medify MA-Smart. Perhaps, you should wait a bit more for this feature to be available on the Medify MA-40. It doesn’t have Auto Mode, either.

Again, we will have the basic settings like a Night Mode to limit the air purifier on lowest speed, or a Timer to schedule the time off for 1, 2, 4, or 8 hours. The Medify MA-40 introduces the Child Lock for the first time in this family, to avoid children or pets from changing the current settings.
