The Medify MA-Smart addresses some of the weaker points of the Medify MA-18 to make the cut-price smart air purifier even better.

It does everything really, really well, in both the internal power and high-end additional features. Though it may not truly excel, the Medify MA-Smart is still astonishingly good value for what is a serious flagship-killer.

It’s an air purifier we didn’t expect the American startup to launch when they unveiled they previous tower air purifier, just six months prior to the Medify MA-Smart’s arrival. But here we are.

You had to pay more to own the Medify MA-Smart, of course. It costs $224, which is $25 higher than the Medify MA-25 and $105 higher than the firm’s cheapest Medify MA-14. But for its high performance, the deal is well-deserved.

There aren’t many air purifiers with smart control like the Medify MA-Smart in this price range, except for the Honeywell HPA250B, Honeywell HPA8350B and Blueair Sense+. You can also look for the Winix AM90, which is one of the best air purifiers at the moment, as it can be controlled via Alexa, just like the Medify MA-Smart.

Medify MA-Smart Design and Size

Look from the outside, the Medify MA-Smart wasn’t a completely new air purifier. It is developed from the design concept of the previous Medify MA-18, which is one of the most popular appearances at the moment.

Though it’s quite identical at first glance, the Medify MA-Smart is actually bigger. It is 16 inches in height, and 9.4 inches in both width and depth. Such size allows the Medify MA-Smart to run a bigger fan, and cover a larger room in use.

Some slight differences are made in the process of building the Medify MA-Smart, as it uses the signature white color for its body. Right at the center of the device, we will find the logo of Medify Air, with their slogan: “Medical grade air at your fingertips”.

Medify MA-Smart uses the same 360° air intake like the previous model, to perform a bottom-to-top air flow system concept like other usual cylindrical devices. We can think of this air purifier as a replica of the popular Levoit Core 300 or Levoit LV-H133, with a wavy sunburst grills on top air outlet. You can also find the control panel at the center on top.

Medify MA-Smart weighs 10 lbs, which is nearly double the weights of the MA-18. Hopefully, it will store at least double the power.

Medify MA-Smart Filters

To decide the performance of one air purifier, normally we will check the quantity and quality of the air filters inside it, as well as the air filter types. In this Medify MA-Smart, we will have a basic 3-stage air cleaning system.

Medify MA-Smart straightly removes the ionizer from the previous Medify MA-18, so it can be certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to meet the safety of ozone emission concentration limit of 0.05 parts per million (ppm).

I finished a test for this Medify MA-Smart, in the same room as the predecessors, to be 150 square feet. Our today unit was also tested against the Medify MA-25, Winix P300 and Oreck Air Response Medium. As you can see from the chart below, the Medify MA-Smart was the winner, with the highest efficiency of 99.92% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns. The efficiency reduced when testing in large area, which was 99.9% for 300 square feet.

The filter set of Medify MA-Smart costs you $59, while it can only last for 4 months, just like its predecessors. This is the big downside of this air purifier, as the annual filter replacement cost is really high to afford.

Medify MA-Smart Room Coverage

One of the best selling points of Medify Air’s products is the large room coverage, even for an air purifier with H13 True HEPA filter. The Medify MA-Smart is an excellence in this family, with large room coverage for bedrooms, living rooms, and office spaces up to 500 square feet.

The ACH of Medify MA-Smart is 1X to 4X. If the Medify MA-Smart does only one exchange in 1 hour, it can cover a space of 1000 square feet.

The CADR of Medify MA-Smart is 170 cfm in general.

Medify MA-Smart Sound

Sadly, such fan power combines with H13 True HEPA filter will result in a very poor silent operation. On paper Medify MA-Smart appears not to have progressed from the previous Medify MA-18, which is terrible at keeping the noise down.

That being said, you should notice of the highest noise level of this Medify MA-Smart, as it can reach 62 decibels (db). It is noisier than even the public restaurants or offices, so you should keep the setting as low as possible while sleeping or concentrating on work.

Medify MA-Smart Power Consumption

Medify MA-Smart Additional Features

Medify Air claimed that the Medify MA-Smart is their most technologically advanced unit. They have their own reasons, as the air purifier is the only to be connected with Google Home or Amazon Echo, so you can give simple voice commands to turn on/off Medify MA-Smart, or change the fan speeds.

This air purifier can also connect to Wi-Fi, and you can remotely control it with your smartphone, using the Smart Life App. Remember, you should pair the Medify MA-Smart with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection.

The Medify MA-Smart is also the most affordable air purifier in Medify Air lineup with Smart Sensor. Based on your indoor air quality, the Auto Mode (using air sensor) will adjust the fan speed automatically, to save the energy much better. This feature previously is only available on the Medify MA-40 or Medify MA-112.

Apart from the smart features, Medify MA-Smart is a basic air purifier with a Sleep Mode, to keep the setting to lowest and dim control panel lights. There is also a Timer function, to schedule the time off after 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours.

To start the lifetime warranty, you need to submit a warranty registration within first 30 days, and commit to change genuine Medify Air’s filter every 4 months, 6 months or 1 year (depending on the product), as well as strictly follow the manual guide of Medify Air.

If you want to return the product, you must do it within 30 days of purchase with a valid receipt. Remember to include the original box and packaging materials.
