After the revelation of the Winix 6300-2, the Winix C555 is just ‘inevitable’ (due to one famous quote of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame). The upgrade of the most popular Winix C535 is truly the most expected air purifier right now, but is it just another modest step up from the current budget king? We will find out soon, in our Winix C555 Review.
Updated: The Winix C545 is available on Amazon right now, and it can be connected to a smart app for easy control. It is also compatible with Alexa for voice control. You should also look for the Winix 9800 and Winix C909, which have better performance.

Winix is a strong air purifier brand in the most budget market, but will the next upgrades like the Winix C555, Winix U300 and Winix 6300-2 can defend its throne, especially when there are many great names like Coway, Guardian Technologies and Honeywell. Well, let’s find out in this Winix C555 Review.
Winix C555 Price
With a big, bright display, quality build and strong performance, the Winix C555 truly blurs the line between budget and mid-range. It is something the Winix U300 is trying to do, but the previous Winix C535 is still more popular, which translates much of the upcoming success of the Winix C555.
Winix has long held the title for the best budget air purifier thanks to the lineup of Winix C535, Winix 5300-2 and Winix 5500-2. And it seems this company continues to do so this year with the Winix C555, especially as the response to the new popular ones like Levoit LV-PUR131S and Honeywell HPA030B.
On the surface of it, the Winix C555 seems to be a bit of a free hit for the Korean manufacturer. This is a chance to release some of the bottom-line squeeze of the Winix C535, and perhaps to upgrade it with a current stronger air filtration system.
Sure enough, the bolstered performance goes some way to achieving that goal. The question is whether the margin of that improvement is sufficient to justify the existence of the Winix C555. So are there enough additions to make the next upgrade worthy of the name?
The Winix C555 filled in the new duo of budget air purifiers with the Winix 6300-2, and we can expect the next Winix 6500-2 to complete the old trio. If the name didn’t tell you that the Winix C555 was the top performer in the range (clearly, what does ‘555’ mean), then its $259 price tag probably should. It’s $59 more expensive than the regular Winix C535, and $40 dearer than the Winix 6300-2.
With the new price, the Winix C555 needs to compete against the strong contenders like the Honeywell HPA300, Airmega 230 and Blue Pure 211. And don’t forget that the Coway AP-1512HH and AIRMEGA 200M are still out there, with brilliant performance and beautiful popularity to make people forget the new name.
Will you give the Winix C555 a try? Below is a great deal to catch.

Winix C555 Design and Size
Despite of the popularity of the Winix C535, the Korean brand quite hesitates to do marketing strategies for the new ones like the Winix C555 and Winix 6300-2. Perhaps the most reason is because of the design concepts of the new air purifiers. The Winix C555 looks exactly like the previous Winix C535. Again, I must stress out: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix.
So to say, you will get the similar appearance, and similar materials. The body is made of plastic, with only one white color option. The air purifier is 23.6 inches in height, which is compact enough to put it on ground or on the table.
Again, the Winix C555 uses 2000 perforated holes to ‘help’ filter the larger objects of pollutants. This air purifier still run the bottom-to-top airflow concept.
There is still the control panel on top of this Winix C555, as well as the air outlet grill. If you are familiar with the old devices, it will be quite disappointing, because there is not a slight improvement. Everything remains the same.

Winix C555 Filters
Admit it, the reason you are here is because you expect the Winix C555 to perform better than the old Winix C535. To decide the performance of an air purifier, we should look for how many air filters and the air filter types are used. So to say, the Winix C555 features the next-gen 5-stage air cleaning system as below.
- Pre-filter – The polluted air must pass through a pre-filter. This pre-filter will help capture the large objects of contaminants, such as pet hair and even some kinds of pet dander. This filter can be washable to work permanently.
- CleanCell Anti-Bacterial Treatment – Though this is not a physical filter, the treatment also provides a layer of protection to your air quality.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter that captures 99.97% of down to 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles.
- Activated Carbon filter – Made of high-grade granular activated carbon, this Activated Carbon filter will eliminate odors and smokes, also reduce the common household chemicals.
- Winix PlasmaWave – This technology is one kind of ionizer, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.
Now I can make a conclusion, the Winix C555 is just exactly like what this company is trying to do with the new Winix U300 and Winix U450 in order to remove the old Winix P300 and Winix P450. The next move will be a reduction of price to bring the Winix C555 as the total replacement of the old Winix C535.
So there is no surprise, because this is the old 5-stage air cleaning system. First, the Winix C555 uses a standalone pre-filter, to prolong the lifetime of its Activated Carbon filter. Then this air purifier treats with an anti-microbial filter to prevent the growth of bacteria, fungi, mildew, molds and dust mites on surface of the True HEPA filter.
And the combination of True HEPA filter and PlasmaWave technology is still too good to use, as the Winix C555 can both trap most of the pollutants and break some chemicals into the molecular level.
But for the actual result, I need a real-use test. The testing conditions were a room of 200 square feet, and a duration of 1 hour. Finally, I can push the limit of one Winix air purifier, to test it against the mighty Coway AP-1512HH and Honeywell HPA300. I also brought the Oransi OV200 into the test to give you a full comparison. The result, the Winix C555 can match the performance of other best air purifiers like the Coway AP-1512HH and Honeywell HPA300, with the efficiency of 99.95% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns. The Oransi OV200 was inferior, with only 99.5% in efficiency.
But, for the price, the Winix C555 has higher filter cost. To buy one set filter of this device, you need to pay $99. However, you can buy the air filter with a much lower price if you follow our deal below.

The Winix C555 is still the exact Winix C535 for the rest of its abilities. It is the same fan power suggested for a room size of 360 square feet.
The ACH of Winix C555 is 4X. Yet another Winix air purifier that will exchange the air in your room 4 times per hour.
The CADR of Winix C555 is 243 Dust/ 232 Smoke/ 246 Pollen (cfm). This CADR rating is still higher than the Winix U300, so you can enjoy the fresh air much quicker.

Winix C555 Sound
Again, you are looking at an air purifier that can be as silent as the level of 28 decibels (dB), which is lower than even the whisper. Even when you run the air purifier on Turbo setting, the noise level is still in the range of quiet level, and you won’t be distracted.
So to say, if you need an air purifier for quiet places, the Winix C555 is one for you.

Winix C555 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.
The power consumption of the Winix C555 is 70 watts, and this is the same with the old trio of Winix C535, Winix 5300-2 and Winix 5500-2. Another disadvantage for using Winix air purifiers is the inevitable high power consumption, which can’t compare with things like Levoit LV-PUR131 or the Coway AP-1512HH.
For using the Winix C555 8 hours per day, it would cost you about $25 per year.

Winix C555 Additional Features
The necessary Smart Sensor is still available in this Winix C555, to tell you exactly the current indoor air quality, using the LED indicator on front of this air purifier. But the Smart Sensor is not only for report, it also triggers the Auto Mode to adjust the fan speed automatically to clean the air better. With this mode, you can just turn on the air purifier, and then you can forget it totally.

As usual, the Winix C555 has a LED indicator for filter replacement and a basic Timer to control the device. This air purifier also comes with a remote control so you can stay in one place and still have full control with your air purifier.

Our verdict
Basically, the Winix C555 is the upgrade of the Winix U300 in the coat of the old Winix C535. Winix has made a fairly significant step forward with its air purifiers this year, and the Winix C555 is without doubt better than the Winix 6300-2. It is for those who are operating on a strict sub-$300 budget, but who want the general experience of a more expensive air purifier.
