Blueair Pro L Price

The Blueair Pro L is a very iterative update for Blueair, but that’s hardly a surprise considering how much of a jump the Blueair Pro M was. This air purifier comes with a bigger size and also a higher price at $899 when compared to the medium version Pro M. It is also the exact price of the Classic flagship Blueair Classic 680i.

There are not many air purifiers which can stay at this top-class range and be the opponents to this Blueair Pro L. Clearly, the IQAir HealthPro Plus is the top challenger, with an incredibly innovative air filtration system. Other powerful rivals – the Oransi EJ120 and Airpura UV600, also are powerful air purifiers targeting the large room scale. For a little bit lower price, you can search for the Austin Air Bedroom Machine – the flagship of the giant American brand.

If your budget can’t stretch to the Blueair Pro L, perhaps the Medify MA-112 and Aprilaire Allergy+Pet9550 are great alternatives, as both air purifiers introduce the high fan power and high-quality air filtration system.

Blueair Pro L Design and Size

The bigger version of the Blueair Pro M genuinely offers something different. This Blueair Pro L is actually the stretch out of a Pro M to have this result. With the height of 31 inches, the Blueair Pro L is doubling the size of its little brother, while staying the same width and depth. Its height makes this air purifier more sizeable than any other competitors, only lose to the grand mighty Blueair Pro XL.

Blueair Pro L keeps the same Swedish design from the previous Pro model, with a typical metal panel from the front, covering inside two huge fans to maximize the fan power against all large room coverage. There are still the intake and outlet air grills from both sides, because the back-to-front airflow system is perfect for using all the high capacity of its double fans.

The new V-shaped filters of the Blueair Pro L are one more positive point. With it, you can increase the area to seize the pollutants, while also save some precious space inside this air purifier. This is the unique creation of Blueair, and only suitable for a tall and huge machine like this Blueair Pro L.

On top of this Blueair Pro L, there is nothing different from the little Pro M. You will still have these two simple buttons to change the fan speed. Also, the Blueair Pro AIM (Air Intelligence Module) is still optional for this Blueair Pro L. So if you are really in need of a Smart air sensor, you need to purchase this module for an adding $79.

With this size, the Blueair Pro L is heavy, too: weighing 46 lbs. This air purifier is even bulkier than the already weighty Blueair Classic 605 with 35 lbs, Airpura UV600 with 45 lbs, IQAir HealthPro Plus with 35 lbs. Without casters, I think that you should not move this Blueair Pro L more often.

Blueair Pro L Filters

When deciding a performance of one air purifier, normally we will look at the quality and material of the air filters, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. Using just the same air filter like the previous Pro M, the Blueair Pro L only add twice the filter from its little brother, and double the fan power. For the filter performance, you still have the same air filters as below.

1. Particle Filter/ SmokeStop Filter – Choose between the 2 filter selections. Blueair’s device makes use of the unique HEPASilent technology, to combine both the electrostatic and mechanical filtration. The Particle Filter is certified to eliminate up to 99.97% of down to 0.1 microns pollutant particles like pollen, mold spores, pet dander, dust, bacteria and even viruses. Normally, True HEPA filter can only capture the particles as small as 0.3 microns.

If you purchase the SmokeStop filter, you will have an additional layer of Activated Carbon filter, which can adsorb and remove the gaseous pollutants like smoke, smells and odors. Moreover, you can buy an extra Carbon + Filter to improve the smoke-resistant ability.

Finally, all of Blueair Pro air filters are naturally anti-bacterial and 100% recyclable.

I benchmarked the Blueair Pro L in our regular test conditions, such as one room of 500 sq ft and a duration of 1 hour. In this test for high-end device, at the time of writing, I only had one IQAir HealthPro Plus to compare with the power of the Blueair Pro L. However, I collected the test result from other high-range devices like the Austin Air Bedroom Machine, Oransi EJ120 and Airpura UV600 to give you the full overview of how strong the Blueair Pro L is.

As the result, our Blueair Pro L marked the highest score, with efficiency of trapping 99.99% all particles as small as 0.3 microns in size. The 3 other air purifiers is slightly lower efficient, with the end result as 99.98%.

Most importantly, I love the filter replacement cost of Blueair. A Blueair Pro filter is only $59, from the previous Blueair Pro M as well as with the Blueair Classic 405 and Classic 480i. This could also be the lowest filter replacement cost among all mid to high-range air purifiers, because the IQAir HealthPro Plus’s filter cost is $380, or the Oransi EJ120 is also $95 for the HEPA filter only. However, you need to replace the air filter after 6 months of use, while others can last up to at least 1 year.

Blueair Pro L Room Coverage

For doubling the fan power, Blueair clearly wants this air purifier to clean an area of up to 780 square feet. This number, of course, double the room coverage of the Pro M, and therefore set a same league with the Blueair Classic 605. Other brands in the same price range can claim a higher room coverage, like the Austin Air Bedroom Machine with 1500 square feet or the Airpura UV600 with 2000 square feet, but in general, the fan power of the Blueair Pro L can easily surpass them thanks to the high CADR rating.

The ACH of Blueair Pro L is 5X. This ACH rating means this air purifier will clean your room every 12 minutes.

The CADR of Blueair Pro L is 630 Dust/ 490 Smoke/ 600 Pollen (cfm). This CADR rating is even higher than the already high Blueair Classic 680i.

Blueair Pro L Sound

For a huge air purifier like this Blueair Pro L, personally I don’t expect a silent fan. To run for this high capacity, a fan must draw a lot of noise. However, thanks to the HEPASilent technology from Blueair, the noise level is not just a nightmare.

In fact, the Blueair Pro L has only a noise level from 32 decibels to 55 decibels (dB), which is the same with the Pro M. While the noise level is higher than most of the silent devices like the Rabbit Air MinusA2 (20.8 decibels), it is still better than lots of large room air purifiers, for example the Austin Air Bedroom Machine (40 to 64.5 decibels).

At highest setting, the noise level is still quite high. To reduce the average noise level, you need the Blueair Pro AIM. Because the lowest noise level of the Blueair Pro L is below the library noise level, which is really quiet.

Blueair Pro L Power Consumption

As one of the most criteria when deciding to buy an air purifier, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient.

One again, the Air Intelligence Module (or Blueair Pro AIM) is optional in this Blueair Pro L. But again, this sensor is really necessary to reduce the power consumption.

With a 31-inch air purifier, the 22 watts power consumption for lowest setting is acceptable. However, you should be ready for the power consumption at highest setting, as it is 170 watts, a lot higher than the energy consuming Honeywell HPA300 (with 130 watts). Still, it is an Energy Star air purifier, for keeping average CADR/watt better than even the Blueair Classic 605.

For running a Blueair Pro L 8 hours per day, you just need to pay from $8 to $61 annually.

Blueair Pro L Additional Features

As you can see, you need the Blueair Pro AIM to be installed in this Blueair Pro L. This air sensor will automatically detect the current air quality and change the fan speed to reduce the noise level, and power consumption.

Just like the Pro M, we don’t have Wi-Fi capability function, or the common Timer in this Blueair Pro L. It seems the top high-range air purifiers are mostly for air filtration purpose, not for some unused smart features.

Luckily, we still have the LED indicator for filter replacement. A handy function to remind you when you need to change the air filter.

Remember only one thing: you need to complete the Product Registration form within 60 days of purchase or register through the Blueair Friend mobile app to secure the 5-year warranty. Otherwise, you only benefit from a 1-year warranty. Moreover, do not attempt to bring the air purifier outside of the United States or Canada, or your warranty will be void immediately. All Blueair warranties are non-transferable.

Blueair air purifiers from the Blue family have only a 2-year warranty from the date of purchase (with valid proof of purchase). One quick reminder: Blueair doesn’t cover warranties from third-party sellers, so buying from Breathe Quality’s deals is highly recommended.
