The Classic series remains one of Blueair’s most iconic air purifier lineups, with the company’s very first device belonging to this family. Built around a signature all-steel cabinet and Blueair’s proprietary HEPASilent technology, the Classic series consists of bulky and heavy air purifiers designed mainly for the high-end segment.

Blueair stopped making its bulky units after the Blueair Classic 680i. The company attempted to position the Blueair HealthProtect 7770i as its successor, but it seems the “Classic” name is simply easier to market. After a decade focused mainly on the family-oriented and compact Blue series, Blueair is finally returning to its roots with the Blueair Classic Pro CP7i.

The Blueair Classic Pro CP7i costs from $699, so it’s as expensive as the old Classic 680i, but now with full smart features. Blueair needed to make these improvements so the Blueair Classic Pro could be the true air purifier for a serious air quality user, and it seems the company delivered.

At its price range, the Blueair Classic Pro only needs to compete against the Rabbit Air A3, Alen BreatheSmart 75i and, most importantly, the Austin Air HealthMate Plus Jr and Airpura V400. It’s far cheaper than the Airmega ProX, Airpura R700 and IQAir HealthPro Plus.

Blueair Classic Pro CP7i Design and Size

Ever since the original Classic series, Blueair needed to improve on its formula, and the Classic Pro CP7i is the air purifier it always set out to make. Do you remember the old Blueair Classic 605 which you have air inlets and outlets from both sides? The new Blueair Classic Pro CP7i takes inspiration from that old Classic design.

To be more precise, the Blueair Classic Pro uses rear air inlets and outputs fresh air from both sides. It is a very complex airflow system compared to the common back-to-front design used in most air purifiers. To make this concept work, the Blueair Classic Pro uses a triple-fan system to push air evenly from both opposite sides while maintaining a high CADR rating.

This is Blueair’s current flagship, and if you want the company’s most advanced premium air purifier hardware, this is it. The Blueair Classic Pro uses premium steel that is resistant to wear, abrasion, and scratches, allowing you to keep it in top condition throughout years of ownership. Normally, when you buy an air purifier in this price range, you expect it to last a lifetime, and the Blueair Classic Pro is certainly built with that goal in mind. Otherwise, you should save your money for the Blue Signature Large, which has a better performance rating than this air purifier.

Compared to the older Classic units, the Blueair Classic Pro is slimmer and shorter, measuring 23.6″ H × 19.7″ W × 9.9″ D. It still retains the cabinet-style design that feels more like a commercial HVAC unit, but the Blueair Classic Pro is definitely a modern device. Just look at its intuitive display, which is very similar to the Blueair HealthProtect 7770i and even uses the same symbols.

The Blueair Classic Pro is heavy, and you should expect that, at 32 lbs. Luckily, we have the hidden casters to support moving this air purifier around.

At a glance, and aside from the lovely new Nordic Fog finish, the Blue Signature Large SP4i could be mistaken for a designer side table. It’s that convincing. Still, there are some subtle differences.

Blueair Classic Pro CP7i Filters

We check the performance of one air purifiers based on its air filters’ quality and material, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. The Blueair Classic Pro features the 4-stage air cleaning system for the first time in Blueair history.

1. Pre-filter – The Blueair Classic Pro includes a simple pre-filter to trap large particles. It is a nice addition compared to the older Classic devices.
2. Particle filter – Instead of using a True HEPA filter, the Blueair Classic Pro combines both mechanical filter and electrostatic charges to capture 99.97% of all the particles down to 0.3 microns (HEPASilent technology).
3. Activated Carbon filter – The Activated Carbon filter is added behind the Particle filter and effective against smoke, odors, gases and VOCs.
4. HINS Pure – The PhotonPure light destroys viruses and bacteria that stay inside the Particle filter.

The Blueair Classic Pro truly feels like the “Pro” version of the Classic series. It includes a pre-filter to help deal with large particles, while the main particle filter uses the same HEPASilent technology that we know and love from Blueair air purifiers.

One thing you should notice about the Blueair Classic Pro is that its activated carbon filter is only a thin layer, unlike the premium carbon filters found in devices such as the Airpura V700. Blueair seems focused on achieving the highest possible performance ratings, to the point of reducing the carbon filter in order to restrict airflow less. As a result, Blueair devices are not the best choice for dealing with chemicals, VOCs, or heavy smoke.

But there is one feature the Blueair Classic Pro has that its predecessors did not: the new HINS Pure stage. HINS stands for “High Intensity Narrow Spectrum,” which uses UV light operating at a 405 nm wavelength in the visible violet-blue spectrum. This wavelength means the HINS technology does not produce ozone at all, while still being able to destroy biological contaminants, although they must first be trapped in the Particle filter.

The technology is rated to last for the lifetime of the unit, so there is no need for bulb replacement, unlike UV-C lamps that degrade over time. However, it activates for only 10 seconds every 10 minutes, which helps extend the lifespan of the technology without maintenance, though it also reduces overall efficiency.

At $699, the Blueair Classic Pro is the most expensive air purifier for the test at 500 square feet, 1 hour. However, it did slightly lower than the AeraMax SV, but the performance bests both the Alen BreatheSmart 75i and Rabbit Air MinusA2.

However, good news is the annual filter cost of the Blueair Classic Pro is really good. At its price range, a set of two Particle filters costs only $99, and it can last about 1 year. It is just the same filter cost for the $449 Blue Signature Large.

Blueair Classic Pro CP7i Room Coverage

The Blueair Classic Pro CP7i is verified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) to work great under 609 square feet, which is slightly behind the Blueair Classic 680i in the past.

The ACH of the Blueair Classic Pro CP7i is 5X. When you use it in the above suggested room size, the unit will exchange air every 12 minutes.

The CADR of the Blueair Classic Pro CP7i is 387 Dust/ 393 Smoke/ 441 Pollen (cfm). The CADR rating is better than the average $700 air purifiers you can find at the moment, but this is certainly not the best Blueair performance.

Blueair Classic Pro CP7i Sound

HEPASilent filtration is synonymous with the Classic Pro series, having been a core feature since the original Classic models. Now, Blueair has finally created a truly quiet Classic air purifier. The Blueair Classic Pro CP7i operates at just 24 decibels (dB), making it far quieter than previous Classic units. Its noise level is comparable to a whisper, which is exactly what air purifier companies mean when they advertise “whisper-quiet” operation.

On its maximum speed, we measure the noise level to be as high as 57 decibels, even lower than the compact residential Blue Signature Large. It is truly a perfect air purifier for office settings.

Remember only one thing: you need to complete the Product Registration form within 60 days of purchase or register through the Blueair Friend mobile app to secure the 5-year warranty. Otherwise, you only benefit from a 1-year warranty. Moreover, do not attempt to bring the air purifier outside of the United States or Canada, or your warranty will be void immediately. All Blueair warranties are non-transferable.

Our verdict

We love the Blueair Classic Pro for its high-end, premium design, clearly aimed at serious users who want an air purifier built to last. However, its performance is not the best that Blueair can pull off, and the carbon filter feels more like a hit-or-miss feature. HINS Pure sounds impressive on paper, but in practice, it is more of a nice extra than a meaningful improvement to air filtration performance.
