In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We provide honest reviews (both pros and cons) so that everyone can make the best decisions.
- We do not (and never will) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.
Sections
- Certified performance with HEPASilent technology
- Highest quality material
- Top-end smart features
- Great, sleeker design
- Great annual cost
- 5-year warranty

After being acquired by Unilever PLC, Blueair has made several new air purifiers that are more suitable for the U.S. marketplace. Both the newest HealthProtect and DustMagnet series receive positive reviews, and the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is currently the best one of the series you can get. So far, we’ve delayed too long to bring out the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i Review, and here we go.
Other Blueair’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Blueair DustMagnet 5440i Price
The Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is an expected device. In fact, it was announced alongside its brothers: the Blueair DustMagnet 5210i, 5240i and 5410i. At first glance, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i looks like an air purifier that’s caught between two stools. With the same dimensions and performance as the 5410i, but the design from the “more premium” 5240i, it’s easy to wonder whether the DustMagnet 5440i is worth the extra cash, especially when the Blueair HealthProtect 7470i is too good at showing flagship performance.
We will talk about its differences from previous DustMagnet air purifiers more later, but first, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i price. Well, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i price starts at $459. That’s $50 more to enjoy the premium “textile gray” color option.
However, if you get the device on Blueair website at the moment, you will enjoy an unbelievable deal. So to say, we recommend to check our deal first before buying.
It is a massive discount for the whole DustMagnet series and we don’t know when it ends. Without the deal, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i stays healthy in the mid-range segment, alongside the top devices like the Vornado PCO575DC, TruSens Z-3500, Winix XLC and Airmega 250S. It even touches the Airmega Icon and Levoit EverestAir on sale.
We’ve seen a flush of old products from Blueair, so we guess the company is doubling its effort into newest products, which have overall better performance, smart features and even annual cost. The Blueair DustMagnet 5440i, with a good deal, can be the best air purifier you can get for your money.

Blueair DustMagnet 5440i Design and Size
Announced alongside the Blueair DustMagnet 5210i, 5240i and 5410i, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i’s key upgrades over the standard 5410i is subtle: it has new design outside, but the same performance inside. It is more like the bigger 5240i, which is in turn the same as the 5410i did over the 5210i.
So yes, while you may appreciate the new textile gray color option, remember that you need to spend $50 more for that. But we have covered it on previous section, so it won’t be a surprise, right? As the bigger 5240i, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i has dimensions of 25.6 x 11.4 x 11.4 inches.
Yeah, it’s big. That’s not to say this is a bad thing, as bigger air purifiers tend to have more fan power, resulting in cleaning better in large rooms. The design of this Blueair DustMagnet 5440i has been refined from the 5210i, but the differences are just as minimal as we’ve said, the textile gray color option.
But if you’re not an active air purifier buyer, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is still special to you. Yes, because the design is the winner of the 2021 iF Design Award and 2021 Red Dot Design Award. Blueair has marketed the whole DustMagnet series as “table” air purifiers, as it has a small table on top. You don’t need a side table anymore, this is your side table.
It’s unconfirmed whether the tabletop limits the air input, but it does help limit dust gathering on the air inlet. However, the non-removable tabletop can cause trouble whenever you need to clean the grills.
You get the same strange airflow system concept from this Blueair DustMagnet 5440i as its brothers. It sophisticated design allows the unit to pull in air with both bottom and top air inlets, and the double pre-filter can ensure that only fresh air is out from dual-side air inlets. While the new design can actually limit its fan power, the side air output can easily direct fresh air into users, which is truly an innovation in design of Blueair.
The control panel is under the table, and it is both simple and helpful to control the device. I like the icon design, and actually I don’t really use the manual control in our tests.

The Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is quite lightweight at its size, as it is only 15 lbs. You can grab on the table to move it around.

Blueair DustMagnet 5440i Filters
As the most important criteria to decide the performance of one air purifier, we always look at the quality and material of the air filters, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. Blueair DustMagnet 5440i features the signature HEPASilent technology with its special dual air filters.
- Pre-filter – For the best performance, you’re required to clean the pre-filter weekly. It can trap large objects of pollutants, prolonging the life of the Combo Filter.
- Combo Filter – The combination of True HEPA filter and Activated Carbon filter, the Blueair DustMagnet 5410i removes light household odors, chemicals, and gases, as well as 99.97% of airborne particles, like pollen, dust, viruses…
The core of HEPASilent technology is its combination of both electrostatic charging and mechanical filtration to improve the performance of the HEPA filter. With dual air filters, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i can double the efficiency of trapping fine particles.
I don’t like to repeat anything, but with the same internals as the DustMagnet 5410i, you can’t expect a honeycombed carbon filter like its brothers from HealthProtect or Classic families. Well, the device is designed to be a dust magnet, not odor magnet.
But again, this is an air purifier certified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM). It’s a plus in our performance ranking, so the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is still great. Using the same test as the previous Blueair DustMagnet 5210i, you can see how well this DustMagnet air purifier deal with airborne contaminants. It is as good as the Medify MA-50, and is far better than the Aeris aair Lite, TruSens Z-3500 and Boneco P400.
The Combo filter of Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is a bit more expensive at $54, but you should remember its life is up to 12 months, not like the old Blueair air filters.

Blueair DustMagnet 5440i Room Coverage
As an AHAM-verified air purifier, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i has a trusted room size suggestion. You can use it in any room up to 357 square feet with ease. Note that the AHAM verification is very strict, so in real-world use, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is capable of cleaning larger rooms.
The ACH of Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is 5X. This ACH rating is certified by AHAM too, so you can enjoy clean air every 12 minutes.
The CADR of Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is 240 Dust/ 230 Smoke/ 255 Pollen (cfm). It is nearly as good as other Blueair air purifiers, for example the Blueair Pro M.

Blueair DustMagnet 5440i Sound
However, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i has one weakness. With the new design, the air purifier actually needs bigger fan power to have a competitive CADR rating. As a result, the noise level isn’t as good as other air purifier brands, with the lowest noise level being 30 decibels (dB). It is still the same as a whisper, and you don’t mind running it while sleeping.
But on highest speed, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i does quite good at only 49 decibels. It is better than the sound test of the DustMagnet 5410i, and it is even better than the Blue Pure 311 Auto, which has been the best air purifier for bedroom for a long time.

Blueair DustMagnet 5440i Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” An air purifier is meant to run for a long time to be efficient, that’s why many air purifier brands consider the energy-saving standard, mostly in the rate of Energy Star, is one important selling point.
The Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is an Energy Star-certified air purifier with a remarkable CADR rating per watt, since its rated power ranges between 7 and 42 watts. Yes, this is such an incredible air purifier with performance per power, and it is even better than its HealthProtect flagship brothers.
If you use the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i for eight hours each day, you’ll pay no more than $15 per year. For its power, this could be the lowest annual cost you pay for an air purifier.

Blueair DustMagnet 5440i Additional Features
Well, premium air purifiers from Blueair offer the most advanced smart features for everyone. The Wi-Fi capability of the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is a key, as I didn’t even use the manual control in our tests. You can control it remotely with your smartphone app, and the voice control is actually nice. The Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is compatible with both Alexa and Google Assistant.
It obviously has a dust sensor, because the air purifier is a dust magnet itself. The Smart Sensor can activate Auto Mode, which adjusts to changing fan speed when pollution levels rise in your indoor environment and return to a slower speed once the air is clean. There is an advanced sensor to automatically turn on or off the device whenever you come and go.
The one thing special about the DustMagnet series is its Auto Start feature, this means that the unit will automatically restart at the set speed if a power failure occurs, the unit is unplugged or a power switch timer is used.
There is a Night mode available for the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i, as it disables features you don’t need while sleeping. This includes the Air Quality Indicator LED light and adjusting to a whisper-quiet low speed.
Finally, you don’t need to track the filter life, because the DustMagnet 5440i will alert you on time.

Our verdict
Of course, if you’re not married to Blueair there are also great alternatives to consider, such as the Winix 9800, Honeywell HPA5300 and Airmega 250. But the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i largely holds up well against them, with great smart features and amazing annual cost ranking. So far, if you can settle on our deal, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is truly a great option to pick.
