At first glance you will wonder what’s changed – it looks pretty much the same as a Winix HR950. I loved that design, and I must confess that the design is good, but do you accept an air purifier with a two-year-old look. Yes, this is the Winix HR1000, and it still looks good, especially in the air purifier market which doesn’t truly notice any new design concept. If you can get past this, and read our Winix HR1000 Review thoroughly, you will find not just one reason to buy this amazing air purifier.
The Winix HR1000 is discontinued, so if you want a great performer at the same price point regarding any pet problems, the Winix HR900 should be an alternative. Moreover, it seems the new Winix 9800 is a great replacement for old Winix smart air purifiers.

Winix is a Korean brand with a long enough history in the American air purifier market, starting in 2003. Back in its native country, Winix has obtained the certification for Consumer Centered Management, an award that has value beyond even the most strict market. So to say, the Winix HR1000 is one of the last air purifiers to tell us that Winix is still having the mid-range air purifiers (today, Winix aims at the low-range more often, with the latest Winix P450 and Winix U450). So is it good to buy? You should check our Winix HR1000 Review.
Winix HR1000 Price
Let’s get right down to it: if Winix had launched the Winix HR1000 in place of the previous Winix HR950, it would probably have been the air purifier of the year. You all know the HR950 is the current Amazon’s Choice for air purifier, so the upgraded Winix HR1000 should at least match your expectation.
In short, it’s the Wi-Fi connectivity function. With such a small difference, the Winix NK105 costs you $20 more than the Winix NK100. However, the Winix HR1000 will cost you $50 more than the previous Winix HR950, to begin at $379. And when you realize that is still the core Wi-Fi connectivity function, I bet you will shout as loud as possible “Why?”
But like the eponymous Batman villain, the Winix HR1000 has two faces. The upgrade of Wi-Fi connectivity is truly necessary if you want to control your air purifier anywhere and anytime. If you are like me, who can’t stay away from the smartphone but can always be 10 feet away from my air purifier, you will need this function. That could be the real intention why Winix removed the remote controller from the Winix HR950 right at the beginning.
$379 is the middle of the mid-range segment, and believe me, the Winix HR1000 will face lots of potential competitors from other brands. The Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0, GermGuardian AC9600W and Airmega 250 are the most suitable examples, with both high performance and smart features. It is also tempting to pay more for premium air purifiers, most notably the Winix XLC and Airmega Icon.
We also notice the presence of the Dyson Pure Cool Tower and Dyson Pure Cool Link in the same price range. These air purifiers, besides the True HEPA filter, are having an amazing cooling fan power to help you survive the summer time. The Dyson Pure Hot+Cool, with a little bit higher cost, will come with the heating power as well.
Sadly, this Winix HR1000 has been discontinued. The Winix 9800 and Winix C909 are the best alternatives with better performance, great smart features and even cheaper price tag.
Winix HR1000 5-Stage Wi-Fi Enabled Air Cleaner (PlasmaWave Technology enabled).
Sporting a 5-Stage air purification system, with a Washable Pre-Filter and both True HEPA filter and PlasmaWave Technology, Winix HR1000 will capture any airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns easily.

Winix HR1000 Design and Size
What can you say about the design of the Winix HR1000 that already hasn’t been said with the Winix HR950? Let’s face it: there’s nothing really new here that’s going to help you work out if one friend of yours is rocking an all-new air purifier at his home.
Perhaps that’s less of an issue now that most of the air purifier brands are repeating their design concept over and over again. We don’t want to mention an increased number of Chinese brands are copying the most popular air purifier on Amazon for an unbelievable low price. So to say, the similarity in design is perhaps the most acceptable in air purifier industry.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing either; just because it’s not an ‘exclusive’ design, it doesn’t make the Winix HR1000 any less premium.
It’s still a stunning air purifier to put in your home, with a full metal chassis and an innovative design. Compared to something like the GermGuardian AC9200WCA or Alen BreatheSmart FLEX, the Winix HR1000 gives a feeling of stronger base thanks to its sharper edges instead of rounded edges like the opponents.
The new color, which is gray, is a little odd, but at least promise to show up the scuffs a little less prominently.
For those who don’t know about the Winix HR950, the Winix HR1000 remains the same bottom-to-top airflow system concept, with many intake air grills from both sides and behind the front panel. On top of this Winix HR1000, we have one air outlet grill which is only opened when you turn on the air purifier.
The top control panel is the most apparent difference, with the swap of Wi-Fi function button for the old Child lock, which I will talk more about later. There are Dust Sensor and Light Sensor to be found on the top control panel. The Dust Sensor needs to be cleaned every two months to be efficient.

The Winix HR1000 is 18.7 lbs, which is not a big deal to move around your home.

Winix HR1000 Filters
One thing that you can find in all Winix air purifiers is the number of stages in the air cleaning system. Normally, to decide the performance of an air purifier, we should look at how many air filters and what air filter types are used. The Winix HR1000 is still using the perfect 5-stage air cleaning system, which is the best air filtration technology of this brand.
- Pre-filter – The polluted air must pass through a pre-filter. This pre-filter will help capture the large objects of contaminants, such as pet hair and even some kinds of pet dander. This filter can be washable to work permanently.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter that captures 99.97% of down to 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles.
- Anti-Microbial Coating – Though this is not a physical filter, the treatment also provides a layer of protection to your air quality.
- Activated Carbon filter – Made of high-grade granular activated carbon, this Activated Carbon filter will eliminate odors and smokes, also reduce the common household chemicals.
- Winix PlasmaWave – This technology is one kind of ionizer, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.
The new 5-stage air cleaning system does bring a boost in power, all thanks to the new Anti-Microbial Coating. To most people that term will mean nothing more than just a marketing quote, but in reality, it’s actually a pretty important move for the company. Only the latest air purifiers are covered with this Anti-Microbial Coating, to prevent the growth of mold in its surface, and therefore, prolongs the air filter life.
The Winix HR1000 makes use of the combination of True HEPA filter and PlasmaWave Technology to not only trap the contaminants, but also change some of them into hydroxyls. Simply put, the process can reach the high efficiency of removing 99.97% any pollutant particles as small as 0.3 microns in size.
The thing is, it doesn’t really mean much to the consumers right now. They just need to know that if it works against the polluted air or not. Beyond that though, you’re not going to notice much about the development of PlasmaWave Technology into your real-world use.

That’s why we need a test to know if the Winix HR1000 is good or not. So this time, I selected the Oransi OV200 and Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0, and put them all into a room of 200 square feet. After 1 hour of running, the Winix HR1000 had the highest efficiency of trapping 99.95% any pollutant particles down to 0.3 microns, while the Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 was only 99.92%. The Oransi OV200 ended up at 99.5%.
Despite using the same air filter as the HR950 model, the Winix HR1000’s air filter cost is still high. With a cost of $99 for annual filter J replacement, you are paying about $0.3 each day for your clean air quality. The cost of the Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 is only $79, and the Alen BreatheSmart 45i even starts from $59.

Winix HR1000 Room Coverage
The Winix HR1000 is improving the small room coverage as a tradition in the Winix QS and Winix WAC9500. Now, you can run a Winix air purifier to clean a room of 400 square feet.
The ACH of Winix HR1000 is 5X. With such high air changes per hour, this air purifier can clean your room as often as every 12 minutes.
The CADR of Winix HR1000 is 264 Dust/ 258 Smoke/ 301 Pollen (cfm). With a relatively high CADR, the Winix HR1000 will clean your room pretty quick.

Winix HR1000 Sound
Keeping most of the internals as Winix HR950, our Winix HR1000 operates with little to no sound. To make such low noise level, Winix has reduced the size of its air purifiers’ fans, as well as innovated it to keep the same performance as before. It is good enough with only 26.4 decibels (dB) – an exact noise level of the whisper, and you will be hardly to hear anything.
The noise level truly impresses me, as with 4 fan speeds, the Winix HR1000 can handle the noise to be better than even the Alen BreatheSmart 45i or Levoit LV-H134.
That said, the Winix HR1000 is recommended to use in the quiet places, such as your office.

Winix HR1000 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.
It’s difficult to recommend the power consumption of the Winix HR1000 compared to the rest of the air purifier world, as there are definitely better devices out there. Winix HR1000 runs at 90 watts, which is far higher than the Alen BreatheSmart 45i (only 50 watts) and Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 (as low as 5 watts). Well, even with an Energy Star rating, the Winix HR1000 has a much lower CADR/watt rate than other members in the family.
For like 8 hours of using per day, the Winix HR1000 would cost you around $32 per year. But again, that is just $0.1 you spend each day for your better indoor air quality.

Winix HR1000 Additional Features
Now we’re getting onto something that’s really rather special: the Smart Sensor of Winix brand. You will find it on many Winix devices, and obviously the most high-end air purifiers, that bring a whole new level of functionality – you don’t need to control your air purifier anymore.
Using an accurate Dust sensor, the Winix HR1000 responds to any change in indoor air quality, and reacts immediately by adjusting the fan speed. For example, if the air quality is poor, the Winix HR1000 will automatically change the fan speed to the Turbo, and thus clean your room faster.
Also, just like the Winix AM90 and Winix C545, the Wi-Fi connectivity is where Winix HR1000 is expected to shine. And it really does, as Winix developed their Smart app very well, so you can control your air purifier anywhere. It is convenient, as you may don’t remember where you put the remote control last night, but there is no way you can forget your smartphone. As a result, the Winix HR1000 doesn’t have the Child lock function as in the Winix HR950.
But you still have the Light Sensor, to detect the amount of ambient light within the environment, and can adjust the brightness of the LED indicators automatically. I love exactly how the LED light change from red to blue in instant.
Finally, you will have a basic Timer and a LED indicator for filter replacement. You should reset the indicator whenever you change the new air filter, or else it will keep alerting you.

Winix HR1000 Customer Service

You can reach its customer service from 9 a.m to 5 p.m, Monday through Friday, via phone or email. If you have trouble calling its service, you can email Winix America at info@winixinc.com.
On its official website, the company is selling both new and certified refurbished air purifiers, of course with free shipping in the U.S only. The Winix limited warranty is two years for most of its products. During the warranty period, Winix will repair or replace the product if it fails because of a defect in material or workmanship, as determined by Winix. Remember that this warranty will be null and void if the product is used for purposes other than home, consumer purposes.
Our verdict
There is no reason to hold back, as if you are in love with the modern Winix HR950, you will definitely love the Wi-Fi function in this new Winix HR1000. This device was Winix’s attempt to stay at the sharp mid-range of the air purifier market, one thing that the company didn’t aim anymore. Confession, I want the famous brands like Winix to keep on pushing more high-end devices rather than competing on the low-range, which is popular at the moment.
Sadly, the Winix HR1000 has been discontinued, and I recommend you to look for the Winix AM90 and Winix 9800 instead.
