Shark HP232 Price
The Shark HP232 is a hidden gem among the “Clean Sense IQ” series, with the air purifier isn’t as popular as the Shark HP102 or Shark HP201. In fact, you can sometimes find Shark merging the Shark HP232 into the HP200’s product page.
The launching price of the Shark HP232 is $329, which is about $30 higher than the base HP202. It rarely goes on sale, so if you want one, you should look for Breathe Quality deal to reduce the price to only $279, for a limited time.
Again, the Shark HP232 is competing against the Blue Pure 211i Max and Levoit Core 600S when it doesn’t have enough juice to deal with lower-tier air purifiers like the Blue Pure 311i Max, Levoit Vital 200S, Levoit Core 400S, Winix T810 and Coway Airmega 200M.
Problem is, this is the most sensible air purifier from Shark; otherwise, you can only get the Shark HP162 instead, with even lower performance, albeit with better annual cost. It’s quite hard to recommend a Shark air purifier at this moment.

Shark HP232 Design and Size
The Shark HP232 is based on the Shark HP201, or more correctly, the Shark HP202. As a result, we will find both air purifiers to be very alike, with only one minor difference in their dimensions. Indeed, the Shark HP232 is 25.98 inches in height, so it’s slightly taller than the base HP202.
Other than that, it is purely the same design, built around emphasizing the crisp AQI display, the good cylindrical design with 360° air intake, and a simple touch control panel. Nothing is worth writing more about the design of the Shark HP232 if you come from our previous review of the HP202.
The height difference is mainly because of the odor neutralizer dial, which is placed above the air outlet. It also adds the extra weight for the Shark HP232, because its weight is 13.6 lbs, in comparison with the only 10 lbs from the Shark HP201.

Shark HP232 Filters
We check the performance of one air purifiers based on its air filters’ quality and material, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. The Shark HP232 uses the same all-in-one air filter from its Shark HP201.

So to say, the Shark HP232 can capture 98.38% all particles as small as 0.3 microns, in 1 hour, at a room of 300 square feet. The performance is behind the Winix 9800, Blue Signature SP3i and Coway Airmega Mighty 2.

Shark HP232 Room Coverage
The Shark HP232 will share the same room coverage as its base HP202. The manufacturer will suggest to use it for rooms up to 1,200 square feet, but we believe you should only use the air purifier for 250 square feet.
The ACH of the Shark HP232 is 5X. If you’re going to use the air purifier in the manufacturer’s suggested room size, the Shark HP232 only exchanges 1 time per hour.
The CADR of the Shark HP232 is 182 Dust/ 165 Smoke/ 178 Pollen (cfm).

Shark HP232 Sound
Using the same design and fan as the Shark HP201, it isn’t a surprise to see the Shark HP232 to perform exactly the same. The lowest noise level is measured at 40 decibels, which is considered the same as library quiet level.
It’s recommended to always run the air purifier on its Auto mode, to keep the noise level as low as possible.

Shark HP232 Power Consumption
As one of the most criteria when deciding to buy an air purifier, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient.
The Shark HP232 doesn’t need more energy for its odor neutralizer technique, so it has the same rated power as the HP202, at 36 watts.

Shark HP232 Additional Features
First and foremost, we must be concerned about the Odor Neutralizer Technology, which is a replaceable scent cartridge that sits in the housing of the Shark HP232. You use the dial to control how much of the passing airflow contacts the cartridge, thus enhancing or decreasing the scent.
Back to the Smart Sensor of the Shark HP232, which isn’t anything more special than the Shark HP201. It can detect the changes in your indoor air quality, and adjusts the fan speed based on the current AQI.
Other than that, we still have a Timer, a light dimmer, and an LED indicator for filter replacement.

It is basically the same Shark HP201 in our eyes, but many people may love the idea of a scent diffuser. Remember that it will be costlier, and for an air purifier with such decent ranking, perhaps you should look for the better choices.
