Shark‘s BreatheClear line represents the brand’s most ambitious push into intelligent air purification, pairing its established NeverChange long-life filtration with a multi-sensor operating system that goes well beyond what most compact purifiers bother to track. Let’s take a look at the new Shark HP162 review.
Other Shark’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Shark HP162 Price
With the Shark HP062 being close to the price of the original Shark HP072, we can guess the price of the Shark HP162 to be somewhat similar to the price of the Shark HP152. For anyone who guess that, congratulation, you’re right.
The Shark HP162 has a price tag of $329, but you can buy it for only $269 when you follow our Breathe Quality deal. It is even cheaper than the old HP152 if you can buy it quickly, and the Shark HP162 is truly a blessing for people who want a better Smart Sensor.
However, its performance is behind the competition, which you can list the Winix 9800, Coway Airmega 250S, Blue Signature SP3i, Levoit Core 600S and especially, the Blue Pure 211i Max. They are all top performers in this price range, and honestly, there’s no reason to buy the Shark HP162 over these air purifiers.

Shark HP162 Design and Size
The Shark HP162 is a simple design formula: it is built on the base of the Shark HP152, then gets the iconic “BreatheClear” AQI display, just like the smaller Shark HP062. It is the same formula these American air purifier companies are using to make people remember their air purifiers.
So to say, the size is the same, and the Shark HP162 is 15 inches in height and 10.5 inches in width. It is designed to be compact enough for small rooms, and many people will put it on their desks. Look at its competitors: the Blue Pure 311i Max and the Levoit Core 400S both reach 20 inches in height as medium-room air purifiers. After all, the Shark HP162 is designed to be compact, not powerful.
I really like the design concept of Shark air purifiers, and the Shark HP162 is perhaps my favorite. It is just the perfect size for being a personal air purifier on my worktable, while the high-res LCD screen displays real-time air quality and other numbers that I care about.
The Shark HP162 has many color options top choose from, from the classic White Dove and Charcoal Black to the new ones like the Dune and Sage. I recommend you to take a look at the Black version of this Shark HP162.
The Shark HP162 weighs only 8.3 lbs, making it light enough for a tower air purifier of this size.

Shark HP162 Filters
We check the performance of one air purifiers based on its air filters’ quality and material, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. The Shark HP162 uses the same 4-stage air cleaning system as below.
- Pre-filter – The DebrisDefense Pro pre-filter is able to capture larger contaminates like dust, hair and lint.
- Pet Particle Barrier filter – An extra layer to capture hair and fur.
- Activated Carbon filter – A honeycombed carbon filter protects against household odors from cooking, cleaning products and more.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA filter can capture all ultra-fine particles down to 0.3 microns, with efficiency up to 99.97%.
The Shark HP162 has a few minor improvements over the old NeverChange air filter of the Shark HP152, but with the same fan core, it can only capture 92.57% of all particles down to 0.3 microns, in the test made for a $300 air purifier. The performance is far behind the top ones like the Levoit Core 600S and Blue Pure 211i Max.

Shark HP162 Room Coverage
The Shark HP162 is recommended up to 750 square feet by the manufacturer, but again, we should use it in less than 162 square feet, to match its name.
The ACH of the Shark HP162 is 1X.
The CADR of the Shark HP162 is 104 cfm in general. It is less than a $150 Blue Pure 511i Max, just so you know.

Shark HP162 Sound
Shark air purifiers tend to keep the lowest noise level around 30 decibels, no matter how big the air purifier is or how strong its fan power is. The Shark HP162 keeps the same tradition, running as quietly as a whisper.
The highest fan speed of the Shark HP162 is 58.7 decibels (dB), which is quite high for an air purifier with maximum airflow of 104 CFM.

Shark HP162 Power Consumption
As one of the most criteria when deciding to buy an air purifier, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient.
The Shark HP162 has a much better efficiency than the Shark HP062, with a rated power of 25 watts only for double air output.
If you’re going to run the Shark HP162 at least 8 hours per day, the annual cost will be $10.96.

Together with the new motion and light sensors, the Shark HP162 can adjust the fan speed based on your activities around it and the current time of day.
It also features the new personalized color display, to make the crisp LCD display more crispy than ever. There is a schedule option so you can choose when to turn on and off the air purifier.
Other than that, we still have a Timer, and an LED indicator for filter replacement.

New motion sensor for better display. The Anti Allergen Nanoseal HEPA captures all particles down to 0.3 microns. NeverChange filter for 6-year period.
Our verdict
The Shark HP162 is more expensive because of its new LCD display; otherwise, it doesn’t make much difference compared with its predecessor.
