The Shark HP301 (and its variant, HP302) is the old flagship of the Shark “NeverChange” air purifier line. It is certainly the biggest air purifier that the company wants to offer, but is it worth the price in 2026. We will find out, in our Shark HP301 review.
Shark HP301 ranks B in our air purifier ranking list. We give the biggest and most thorough database of air purifier reviews in the world.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We do give honest reviews (both pros and cons) so anyone will guarantee to have the wisest choices.
- We do not (and never) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.
Sections
- Clear AQI display
- New scent diffuser
- 5-year filter life
- 2-year warranty
- Lower performance than the competition
Shark, part of SharkNinja Operating LLC, built its name on vacuum cleaners before expanding into air purifiers under its NeverChange branding – a lineup built around long filter life (5 to 6 years, depending on the model). We will continue with the flagship’s review – the Shark HP301 review.
Other Shark’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Shark HP301 Price
The Shark HP301 aims to bring the Shark name into the mid-range segment, which is a tall order when its smaller siblings – the Shark HP072 and Shark HP152 – struggle badly in their own competitions. The Shark HP301 is certainly more powerful than its brothers, but the question is: how much?
At $399, you’re asking for as many as two HP152s at its usual sale price, and the Shark HP302 is competing against most other brands’ flagships. Some examples can be chose instead, like the Levoit Core 600S, Blue Signature Large, AeraMax SE and Coway Airmega 450.
It is a very difficult task for the Shark HP301, but it seems Shark doesn’t want to stop. In 2026, the company released a newer model, the Shark HP362, to deliver the same performance but under a different name, “BreatheClear.”

Pure air microforce uses a powerful fan to deliver 4 speeds. The Anti Allergen Nanoseal HEPA captures all particles down to 0.3 microns. NeverChange filter for 5-year period.

Shark HP301 Design and Size
The Shark HP301 continues the design concept from the Shark HP072 and Shark HP152, but taller. It isn’t a surprise for an American-heritage company, as we’ve seen Honeywell do that for a long time.
So we have a tower air purifier at 22.5 inches in height, and the Shark HP302 is even bigger, with a diameter of 13.2 inches. It is the biggest Shark “HP” air purifier to date, and if you want a product from this brand for large rooms, this is definitely the air purifier to choose.
Shark even works in a front-facing display, but it’s a simple percentage readout rather than the granular PM1/PM2.5/PM10 breakdown you’d get on the pricier air purifier. It has a tidy top control panel, with fan-speed and Air Info buttons close enough together to reach with one hand.
There is currently only a gray and white version of the Shark HP300 series, with the white version named the HP302.
Surprisingly, the Shark HP301 is lighter for its size at only 12.27 lbs, which is is even lighter than the Levoit Core 600S.

Shark HP301 Filters
We check the performance of one air purifiers based on its air filters’ quality and material, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. The Shark HP301 uses the same 4-stage air cleaning system that we can find in all “NeverChange” models.
- Pre-filter – The DebrisDefense pre-filter is able to capture larger contaminates like dust, hair and lint.
- Pet Particle Barrier filter – An extra layer to capture hair and fur.
- Activated Carbon filter – A honeycombed carbon filter protects against household odors from cooking, cleaning products and more.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA filter can capture all ultra-fine particles down to 0.3 microns, with efficiency up to 99.97%.
The Shark HP301 does a job similar to the Shark HP152, but in a higher range. For a test of 400 square feet, the Shark HP301 (our testing variant is the HP302) has an efficiency of 97.81%, which is slightly better than the AirDoctor AD1000 and NuWave OxyPure Zero E500.

Again, the filter of the Shark HP301 can last for 5 years, but at the moment, we can’t find an official deal for the NeverChange filter. You must look for a third-party filter set instead, with a far inferior filter life.

Shark HP301 Room Coverage
The company doubles the suggested room size for the Shark HP301, up to 1,300 square feet. However, we must warn you that the air purifier should be used for 300 square feet at most.
The ACH of the Shark HP301 is 5X. If you’re going to use the air purifier in the manufacturer’s suggested room size, the Shark HP301 only exchanges 1 time per hour.
The CADR of the Shark HP301 is 216 Dust/ 204 Smoke/ 235 Pollen (cfm). It is okay, but not as good as its current competitors.

Shark HP301 Sound
The Shark HP301 has a noisier fan power than its smaller siblings, and the lowest noise level can go as high as 40 decibels (dB). Don’t worry, it is still in the library noise level range.
On its highest speed, the noise level of the Shark HP301 can go as high as 58 decibels. It is equivalent to a normal conversation, so it is certainly one of the quietest air purifiers in this $400 price range.

Shark HP301 Power Consumption
As one of the most criteria when deciding to buy an air purifier, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient.
The Shark HP301 was once an Energy Star air purifier, because its rated power is only 54 watts. However, it can’t be found again in the Energy Star database.
If you’re going to run the Shark HP301 at least 8 hours per day, the annual cost will be $24.

Shark HP301 Additional Features
Again, the Shark HP301 continues the Odor Neutralizer Technology from the Shark HP232. It acts like a scent diffuser, and you can use the odor dial to adjust the amount of scent for your room.
One of the iconic features of the Shark HP301 is obviously the “Clean Sense IQ” Smart Sensor, which isn’t a big deal when you’re looking for a $400 air purifier. It is still the same crisp display that you can get from the much cheaper Shark HP072.
Other than that, we still have a Timer, a light dimmer, and an LED indicator for filter replacement.

Our verdict
The Shark HP301 shares the same ranking as the previous Shark HP152, which is decent for the mid range. However, we still want to advise you to look for the Blue Signature Large instead, with better in everything.
