The Shark HP072 has an incredibly reasonable price tag for what it promises. At $179, routinely discounted to $149 if you check our Breathe Quality deal, you will get an air purifier with no additional filter cost for the next 5 years (even more if you buy the Shark HP062). Considering the Breathe Quality standard for an air purifier in the $100 range, you’re saving about $150 over 5 years, which is almost enough to buy a new air purifier.
But with more depth into our review, you will certainly find the Shark HP072 a bit too many problems to enjoy. Mostly the problem in its overall problem, because you’re paying for an air purifier with as much power as a Levoit LV-H132, at roughly 3 times the price.
And remember, we always have the Blue Pure 311i Max, Levoit Vital 200S, Levoit Core 400S, Winix T810 and Coway Airmega 200M to choose for a modern medium room at the moment, and they are sometimes even more affordable than the Shark HP072. Shark is losing quickly with such a weak air purifier.
We also want you to look for the Shark HP102 or Shark HP201 instead, with better performance at similar price.

Shark HP072 Design and Size
The Shark HP072 has a design far better than expected when you look at previous models like the Shark HP102 or Shark HP201. It is unique to Shark itself, with a smooth, rounded plastic shell. Some people will say this design is definitely not for a compact budget air purifier.
The air purifier has a neat, compact design that actually makes it easy to overlook its plain plastic construction. It feels solid and looks tidy on a nightstand or desk. The CleanSense IQ display is small, but it’s clear enough, showing air quality as a straightforward percentage rather than the fussier multi-band readouts on some pricier Shark models.
At 9.21 x 9.21 x 11.61 inches, the Shark HP072 is compact with the smallest footprint I find on an air purifier. It will have a 360° air intake, with a bottom-to-top airflow system concept. The Shark HP072 also has a dial for its odor neutralizer technique, just like the Shark HP232.
Also, the air purifier is only 4.41 lbs, so you can move the Shark HP072 anywhere in your home.

Shark HP072 Filters
We check the performance of one air purifiers based on its air filters’ quality and material, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. The Shark HP072 uses the new all-in-one air filter.
- Pre-filter – The DebrisDefense pre-filter is able to capture larger contaminates like dust, hair and lint.

It seems the Pureshield Anti-Allergen HEPA filter of the Shark HP072 is pretty solid, with a thick base and a multi-layered structure. However, the actual performance of the Shark HP072 depends largely on its fan power, and honestly, it isn’t good for the price point.
At room of 200 square feet, the Shark HP072 has an efficiency of only 77.68% for capturing all particles down to 0.3 microns, in 1 hour. The performance is really bad that it’s very difficult to recommend this air purifier.

The filter of the Shark HP072 can last for 5 years, based on the standard of 250 square feet. We only recommend to use the air purifier in only 50 square feet, and you can expect the filter life to be much longer.

Shark HP072 Room Coverage
The Shark HP072 is suggested for rooms up to 250 square feet by the manufacturer, but you should use this air purifier mainly in a room of 50 square feet for the best results.
The ACH of the Shark HP072 is 5X. If you’re going to use the air purifier in the manufacturer’s suggested room size, the Shark HP072 only exchanges 1 time per hour.
The CADR of the Shark HP072 is 33 cfm in general. It is reasonable for an air purifier at its size, but such performance is very low for an $200 air purifier.

Shark HP072 Sound
The lowest noise level of the Shark HP072 is 33 decibels (dB), which is a bit louder than what we could expect from modern air purifiers. Still, it is around the range of a whisper’s noise level, so you won’t notice the air purifier running at this speed.
On its highest speed, the noise level of the Shark HP072 is about 53 decibels (dB), which is good. It is audible, but it’s just white noise.

Shark HP072 Power Consumption
As one of the most criteria when deciding to buy an air purifier, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient.
The Shark HP072 is a very energy-efficient air purifier. At 16 watts, you can run this air purifier 24/7 without worrying about the electric bill.
If you’re going to run the Shark HP072 at least 8 hours per day, the annual cost will be $7.

Shark HP072 Additional Features
The Shark HP072 has many things inherited from the Shark HP232, for example the newer Odor Neutralizer Technology. It has a mechanical dial to adjust the amount of airflow output, and it acts as a passive scent diffuser.
For the basic “Clean Sense IQ” Smart Sensor, it is quite normal for air purifiers at the moment. The Shark HP072 can automatically adjust the fan speed based on the current indoor air quality.
Other than that, we still have a Timer, a light dimmer, and an LED indicator for filter replacement.
