Shark HP362 Price

The Shark HP362 provoked real curiosity from the moment Shark teased its multi-sensor BreatheClear operating system – does scanning 3,600 times per hour mean 3,600 meaningful reactions? Well, the sensors are real, and they don’t include a plethora of redundant readings just to pad a spec sheet.

No, all those scans feed into a single, unified auto-mode response, because Shark wanted the Shark HP362 to corner the market on detecting air quality changes before you notice them – a proactive purification approach, so to speak.

It is a good selling point for a Shark air purifier, especially when the company built its reputation with high-res AQI display, from the very old Shark HP102 and Shark HP201. The Shark HP362 is like how the Shark HP301 is packing new LCD BreatheClear display, or you can say a bigger Shark HP162. The Shark HP362 isn’t cheap, as the price hikes up to $449. That’s a lot that Shark is asking for when the Shark HP362 doesn’t have a good AHAM number or Wi-Fi capability.

I mean, take a look at the competition: you can easily buy the Blue Signature Large which is significantly better than the Shark HP362. There are far more affordable options that can’t be ignored: the Levoit Core 600S and Winix 9800 can work for larger rooms. Also, if you don’t need the Wi-Fi capability feature, you can also get the AeraMax SE or Coway Airmega 450, and they feel like owning double the Shark HP362.

Shark HP362 Design and Size

At first glance, the Shark HP362 looks a lot like most large-format tower air purifiers – a cylindrical column with intake vents wrapping the sides. Keep the dove-finish exterior clean and it holds its own against the best-looking purifiers available. But place it in a room and you’ll feel the footprint difference between this unit and more compact siblings, like the Shark HP062 and Shark HP162.

Which is fine – this purifier is all-in on empowering whole-home coverage, not minimizing shelf space – but it does end up asking a lot of your floor plan. The Shark HP362’s dimensions are 23.38 inches in height and 12.67 in width, so it is very much similar to the Shark HP301.

The rear and side panels are sleek polymer that resists smudging to a reasonable degree, though dust does accumulate on the Debris Defense washable pre-filter screen. The Shark HP362 still use the bottom-to-top airflow system concept, typical for a tower air purifier.

The unit is otherwise purposeful, with a high-resolution LCD display panel at the front of the top section and physical touch controls directly above it. It is indeed the selling point of the Shark BreatheClear air purifier, as Shark makes it much crisper and higher-resolution than the original Clean Sense IQ of the Shark HP102.

We have many color options again for the Shark HP362. For example we have the more popular Charcoal version, which is painted matte black and feels more premium.

Despite its size, the Shark HP362 is actually light. It is only 13.56 lbs for a 22-inch tower air purifier, so you can easily move it around your house.

Shark HP362 Filters

We check the performance of one air purifiers based on its air filters’ quality and material, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. The Shark HP362 will use the 4-stage air cleaning system that is developed from NeverChange series before.

1. Pre-filter – The DebrisDefense Pro pre-filter is able to capture larger contaminates like dust, hair and lint.
2. Pet Particle Barrier filter – An extra layer to capture hair and fur.
3. Activated Carbon filter – A honeycombed carbon filter protects against household odors from cooking, cleaning products and more.
4. True HEPA filter – The True HEPA filter can capture all ultra-fine particles down to 0.3 microns, with efficiency up to 99.97%.

Shark air purifiers tend to fall off hard in a test supposed for its money, but the Shark HP362 is truly the best Shark air purifier when you count performance per dollar. In the same test as the Shark HP301, our Shark HP362 scored 98.29% of all particles down to 0.3 microns, in 1 hour, for room of 400 square feet. The performance is a bit behind the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000, but it is better than the AirDoctor AD1000, AirDoctor AD2000 and NuWave OxyPure Zero E500.

Again, we can’t find an online and official source to buy the NeverChange air filter for the Shark HP362, so you can only stick with the inferior, third-party air filter first. Still, you only need to worry about the filter replacement after 6 years.

Shark HP362 Room Coverage

The Shark HP162 is suggested up to 1,650 square feet by the manufacturer, and we can only recommend you to run it in a room 330 square feet for the best performance.

The ACH of the Shark HP362 is 1X. Shark’s marketing states 1,650 sq ft coverage, based on the AHAM AC-1 methodology at 1 air change per hour on maximum fan speed.

The CADR of the Shark HP362 is 217 cfm in general.

Shark HP362 Sound

On its lowest speed, the Shark HP362 has a noise level of only 32 decibels (dB), which is similar to the Shark HP062 and Shark HP162.

The one area where the Shark HP362 shows its size is noise at higher fan speeds, up to 63 decibels. Speed three is clearly audible in a quiet room; speeds four and five are substantially louder, generating the kind of mechanical rush that will pull you out of light sleep or interrupt a conversation

Shark HP362 Power Consumption

As one of the most criteria when deciding to buy an air purifier, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient.

For the Shark HP362, its rated power is measured at 60 watts. It isn’t the highest performance per dollar in the Shark lineup, and as you can see, none of Shark air purifiers are certified by Energy Star anymore.

If you’re going to run the Shark HP362 at least 8 hours per day, the annual cost will be $26.3.

Shark HP362 Additional Features

The front-facing high-resolution LCD is as polished as you’d hope from a Shark air purifier, especially the most expensive one like the Shark HP362, with a responsive live readout of air quality you can parse at a glance. That puts it well ahead of the simple colored LED indicators most large purifiers use, and it’s certainly informative and sharp enough on its own, displaying multiple pollutant categories and mode status simultaneously.

However, we don’t have Wi-Fi capability on the Shark HP362, and it is pretty terrible for a $439 air purifier. I know we have many air purifiers at even higher prices without Wi-Fi capability, but at least they have far better performance, like the Coway Airmega 450 or the AeraMax SE.

Other than that, we still have a Timer, and an LED indicator for filter replacement.

We don’t have many air purifiers at this mid-range segment, and the Shark HP362 is an interesting device if you love the concept of its high-res display. Its performance is nowhere near the Breathe Quality standards for a $400 air purifier, but overall, don’t resist buying it when you love Shark brand.
