NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 Air Purifier: Trusted Review & Specs

The NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 is here, and washable-filter fans can rejoice at the never-buy-a-filter-again promise and the sheer square footage NuWave claims it covers. The Bio-Guard electrostatic system can be effective and even satisfying, if you can accept the reality that it isn’t as good as a True HEPA system. But still, let’s move to our usual NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 review.

NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 ranks A- in our air purifier ranking list. We give the biggest and most thorough database of air purifier reviews in the world.

In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:

  • We do give honest reviews (both pros and cons) so anyone will guarantee to have the wisest choices.
  • We do not (and never) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.

Nuwave is an American home appliance brand founded in 1993 as IBC-Hearthware, Inc. Its Zero line is the flagship of that push: rather than the disposable HEPA filters most competitors rely on, every Zero-series unit – from the compact base model up through the E500, E1000, and the range-topping NuWave OxyPure Zero E2000 – uses NuWave’s washable Bio-Guard electrostatic filtration, which the company markets as a way to never buy a replacement filter again. Okay, time for our NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 review.

Other NuWave’s Air Purifier Reviews:

NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 Price

The previous NuWave OxyPure Zero E500 is a good concept to build on, that NuWave wants to make sure the next-gen NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 will be a success. While the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 is no longer the flagship at the moment, it’s the title of the NuWave OxyPure Zero E2000, it is still a worthy option to pick.

It’s a filter-free air purifier, but what does that actually mean? It means that electrostatic capture isn’t just replacing the crumbly cardboard prefilter you’d find in a cheap purifier; it’s replacing the HEPA filter media itself, stage after stage. The NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 wants to get the best annual cost ranking in our Breathe Quality list.

For the price, the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 isn’t cheap. It starts at $499, which is $80 higher than what the company offered with the previous Zero E500. At this price point, I will advise you to also look for the new NuWave Forever model 47265. It is basically the same NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 with a different Ozone-removal filter, so for the same price, it’s worth to take a look.

NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 review

If you want to stick with the base NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000, model 47251, I suggest to check the Breathe Quality deal, which reduces the price of the Zero E1000 to only $404, about 20% OFF the original price. It is for a limited time, so don’t hesitate if you love the concept of a filter-free air purifier.

Otherwise, if you prioritize the performance, you should look for the AeraMax SE, Blue Signature Large, Coway Airmega 450 or Levoit EverestAir instead. All of them have better performance ranking, and some (for example the Blueair air purifier) can have better overall ranking than our today NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000.

NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 Design and Size

While the naming method of NuWave air purifiers can be confusing, their design is usually decent. The NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 is indeed built on the basis of the NuWave OxyPure Zero E500, with a few additional caveats to make it more functional for the high-end segment.

First, we must talk about the filter design. The NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 has mechanical filters, but they aren’t made of fibers, so they are washable. I slide them out and back in again and again to feel for any rough edges, loose gaskets, or corners where my hand catches. They feel more solid than anything a HEPA filter can give you.

The most exciting detail about the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 is that it has… casters. Certainly, we have an air purifier with dimensions of 23 inches in height and 14 inches in width, and 22 lbs for the weight. Basically, we have the bigger Zero E500, but this time we can move the air purifier around, thanks to the set of casters.

To wit: the NuWave Forever model 47265 is as capable as the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000, under the different name. If you want the exact model, you can check the link below. You will find out these air purifiers are basically the same.

Well, there is one more thing to tell the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 apart from the old model: its air outlet. It’s not really important, because the size and dimensions are different from both models, but I must emphasize that the new air outlet is more premium, and it doesn’t accumulate dust when you don’t use the air purifier.

NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 Filters

We check the performance of one air purifiers based on its air filters’ quality and material, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. The Zero line from NuWave is special because it uses the exclusive Bio-Guard filters instead of HEPA filters, and the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 adds one more filter than the previous model, for a total of 4 stages.

  1. Pre-filter – The stainless steel pre-filter can capture larger contaminates like dust, hair and lint.
  2. Hi-tech Bio-Guard filter – The exclusive Bio-Guard filter that is rated to capture pollutants as small as 0.01 microns.
  3. Ozone-removal filter – Mainly for stripping ozone from other electrostatic Bio-Guard’s stages.
  4. Bio-Guard 360 filter – Deals with pollutants as small as 0.1 microns.

The filtration story is compelling, and not just from the headline Bio-Guard 360 stage, or the base Bio-Guard filters. NuWave has made worthy improvements across the board to several filtration stages compared to the older HEPA/carbon OxyPure line. The Bio-Guard filtration work miraculously for dealing with ultra-fine particles.

In the same test with the previous NuWave OxyPure Zero E500, the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 did a much better job at dealing with 99.33% of all particles down to 0.3 microns, in just 1 hour. It is far better than the Airdog X5, which is also advertised as the filterless air purifier.

NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 Air Purifier: Trusted Review & Specs

Again, buying a NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 means you don’t need to worry about the annual filter cost. In case your filter gets trouble, you can buy the replacement below.

NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 Room Coverage

Again, we won’t have the AHAM verification for a NuWave air purifier, so you should check the 2,000 square feet suggestion made by NuWave team. It’s a bit too much, at Breathe Quality, we only use this air purifier for 400 square feet.

The ACH of the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 is 5X. If you’re going to use the air purifier in the manufacturer’s suggested room size, the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 only exchanges 1 time per hour.

The CADR of the OxyPure Zero E1000 is 232 Dust/ 267 Smoke/ 250 Pollen (cfm). The performance isn’t bad for the price, but it’s certainly far from the best.

NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 Sound

The NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 is advertised to have the silent operation, unlike its previous model Zero E500. It seems the ozone-removal filter can block some of the noise made by the ionizers inside the air purifier. Its lowest speed has a noise level of only 19 decibels (dB), which is far better than the previous model.

However, the highest noise level is still high at 58 decibels. Make sure you don’t use the Turbo cleaning when you’re sleeping.

NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 Power Consumption

As one of the most criteria when deciding to buy an air purifier, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient.

In terms of running costs, this is where the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 makes its strongest case, and NuWave claimed a full year of 24/7 operation costs less than $10 in electricity. Actually, with its power wattage of 60 watts, the claim isn’t really correct.

If you’re going to run the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 at least 8 hours per day, the annual cost will be $26.3.

NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 Additional Features

The NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 still benefits from the smart app made by the company, which is necessary to control the air purifier. The smart app does its job beautifully, and you no longer need a separate remote controller.

About the Smart Sensor, the NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 uses the same dual sensors as the previous E500, which is great. It can quickly detect changes in indoor air quality and respond with the necessary fan speed.

The NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 still has its own Eco mode, to put the air purifier on standby when it detects good air quality for 30 minutes, then turn back on later. It also features the new Flow Angle feature, which adjusts the angle of its own air outlet.

Finally, we still have the Timer setting, as well as the LED indicator for filter replacement.

Our verdict

The NuWave OxyPure Zero E1000 does a better job than the NuWave OxyPure Zero E500, but it is 20% pricier. Still, if you can afford such a cost of a mid-range air purifier, we always believe the Zero E1000 is the better option.
