Shark HP062 Price

Shark is a popular appliance brand in the U.S, with different marketing terms for its air purifiers. Its early lineup centered on the Clean Sense IQ series, compact cylindrical purifiers with real-time particle displays that aimed to make air quality visible and actionable without overwhelming the buyer. The brand’s more significant step came with the NeverChange filtration system, a sealed HEPA-exceeding cartridge designed to last years without replacement, which became the foundation of Shark’s BreatheClear line.

The Shark HP062, as you can guess, builds on the Shark HP072‘s NeverChange design and features, with a few upgrades to keep it competitive in the modern small-room air purifier market. Still, it can’t go lower than the HP072, so the Shark HP062 BreatheClear Compact Pro price starts at $179.

It’s quite expensive because the Shark HP062 doesn’t improve too much on performance, something that we must first prioritize when building an air purifier. As you can see, at this price point, you can look for the Blue Pure 311i MaxLevoit Vital 200SLevoit Core 400SWinix T810 and Coway Airmega 200M which can clean much faster in a medium room, while the Shark HP062 can do things in small rooms only.

We should look for the Shark HP162 and Shark HP362 for better performance per price, but consider the Shark HP062 only if you love its design.

Shark HP062 Design and Size

The first thing we noticed about the Shark HP062 is how compact the unit felt – it almost feels desk-sized, even compared to other small air purifiers. The device has a smooth cylindrical housing, and coupled with its lack of heft this does make it feel distinctly boutique and purposeful in a tight space. We can tell that the Shark HP062 is definitely a successor of the Shark HP072.

When positioning the device it felt like the Shark HP062 was built to slot onto a desk or nightstand without demanding attention (and it didn’t), and we were a little charmed by how naturally it disappears into a room.

People will notice the new BreatheClear display, which is the selling point of the product. The Shark HP062 has a compact high-res LCD panel, broken up only by a small real-time air quality indicator at the top, and with a tidy, minimal surround. It’s a clean-looking design, and one that wouldn’t look out of place on a pricier unit.

The Shark HP062 is nearly identical to the previous HP072 on all fronts. Its dimensions are 9.18 x 9.34 x 11.54 inches, so the Shark HP062 is one of the smallest air purifiers in the world. It is only 5.6 lbs, and you can move the air purifier anywhere in the world.

There are many different color options to choose from. Besides the usual Dove version, you can get Pink Blush, Yellow Butter, Black Charcoal, and Green Sage. Here is a popular option, the Charcoal version.

Shark HP062 Filters

We check the performance of one air purifiers based on its air filters’ quality and material, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. The Shark HP062 uses a better upgraded NeverChange air filter.

  1. Pre-filter – The DebrisDefense Pro pre-filter is able to capture larger contaminates like dust, hair and lint.
  2. Pet Particle Barrier filter – An extra layer to capture hair and fur.
  3. Activated Carbon filter – A honeycombed carbon filter protects against household odors from cooking, cleaning products and more.
  4. True HEPA filter – The True HEPA filter can capture all ultra-fine particles down to 0.3 microns, with efficiency up to 99.97%.

The Shark HP062 has an upgraded NeverChange filter that is intended to last longer. Its True HEPA filter has an additional layer to protect the filter against mold spores. We also have a newly crafted Debris Defense Pro pre-filter, which is easier to attach and detach than the one on the previous HP072.

However, in real-life test, the Shark HP062 doesn’t live up to the manufacturer’s expectation. It is even worse than the Shark HP072 in the same test, capturing only 75.07% of all particles down to 0.3 microns.

Shark HP062 review

Again, the filter of the Shark HP062 can last for 6 years, but at the moment, you can’t buy filter on Shark website. You can try the alternative replacement filter, which works worse than the official filter.

Shark HP062 Room Coverage

Strangely, Shark suggested to use the Shark HP062 in a larger room than the Shark HP072: 300 square feet. Actually, we only expect this air purifier to run its best in 50 square feet.

The ACH of the Shark HP062 is 1X.

The CADR of the Shark HP062 is 37 cfm in general. It’s nearly the same as the HP072.

Shark HP062 Sound

For the noise level, the Shark HP062 is around 32 decibels (dB), similar to what we can achieve with the HP072. Its noise level isn’t the best on the market, but it is in the range of whisper-quiet, and you won’t notice the Shark HP062 running at this speed.

Its highest noise level is recorded at 53 dB, which is considered normal for a small-room air purifier.

Shark HP062 Power Consumption

As one of the most criteria when deciding to buy an air purifier, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient.

The Shark HP062 has a lower rated power for nearly the same performance as its predecessor, at 20 watts. However, the Shark HP062 isn’t certified by Energy Star.

If you’re going to run the Shark HP062 at least 8 hours per day, the annual cost will be $8.77.

Shark HP062 Additional Features

For such a small device, the HP062 has a pretty powerful sensor array – scanning air 3,600 times per hour, more frequently than its predecessor with only infrared sensor. Thus, the Smart Sensor of the Shark HP062 is very good to use.

To help differentiate the Shark HP062 from the predecessors, Shark has introduced a couple of novel features. One of these is a motion detection sensor embedded within the unit, which automatically boosts fan speed when movement is detected in the room. This is a welcome additional option alongside the standard vibrations and alert sounds – sorry, auto and manual fan modes – although of course it would only be useful if you keep the purifier in a room you actively occupy.

The other new feature is the presence of a VOC sensor on the front edge of the device, which continuously scans for airborne chemicals from paints, aerosol sprays, and similar sources, adjusting purification speed automatically.

Other than that, we still have a Timer, a light dimmer, and an LED indicator for filter replacement.

Our verdict

The Shark HP062 certainly has many improvements over the base Shark HP072, but it forgets to improve the most important factor: its actual performance for the price.
