Coway Airmega Mighty 2 Price

The Coway Airmega Mighty 2 aims to shake up the mid-range air purifier market, by taking some of the DNA of the legendary Coway Mighty AP-1512HH, but swapping out select aging components for upgraded parts. The result is a purifier that’s aimed at those who want a reliable unit for day-to-day use in Coway’s style but aren’t satisfied with the older sensor technology and filter design that the original Mighty affords.

Although the Coway Mighty 2 has been updated versus the original model, it’s still the recognition that we need to remember an AP-1512HH, because if it’s not for this, we can look to buy the Airmega 200M or Airmega 250S instead.

As for pricing, the new Coway Airmega Mighty 2 costs $269, which is close to the original launch price we remember from the classic Coway AP-1512HH. Meanwhile, the older AP-1512HH has dropped to around $159 as retailers clear remaining inventory. Overall, the Airmega Mighty 2 is reasonably priced, especially since it still costs about $40 less than the Coway Mighty S.

Its pricing places the new Coway Airmega Mighty 2 in direct competition with models like the Blue Pure 211i Max, Blue Signature Medium, Winix 9800, and Honeywell HPA6000. These are all strong competitors, and perhaps Coway is being a bit too confident with the relatively minor upgrades introduced in the Airmega Mighty 2. We will see how it performs later in the review.

Coway Airmega Mighty 2 Design and Size

One of the most significant changes to the Coway Airmega Mighty 2 is its redesigned appearance, which marks a subtle but unmistakable departure from the look established by previous Mighty generations. The iconic air inlet is still present, but the air purifier now features a more squared-off shape rather than the rounded curves seen on the classic Coway Mighty AP-1512HH.

And the redesign is not just for appearance. The new Coway Airmega Mighty 2 now features triple air inlets, which is started from the previous Mighty and Coway Mighty S models. While the better design is not revolutionary due to the limitations of the fan motor, it still helps the Airmega Mighty 2 improve its Turbo mode performance.

The LED air quality indicator is still present – albeit in a more refined form that now takes up the front panel display, comprising a numerical PM readout alongside a color-coded ring around the control section.

The rear of the Airmega Mighty 2, meanwhile, features a streamlined exhaust grille; only there to serve the unit’s efficient top-discharge airflow path. It’s harder to appreciate the panel surface details on our review device as, unlike the AP-1512HH’s black finish, Coway has opted for a brighter white colorway, rendering fine grille textures a little less distinct, but these design details are at least more visible on the black finish. You can also look for the new beige color, which is not as iconic as the old black version.

At 16.9″ W x 17.9″ H x 9.3″ D, the Airmega Mighty 2 is very similar to the original Mighty model. However, the new Airmega Mighty 2 is significantly heavier at 15.2 lbs, thanks to its larger HEPA filter.

Coway Airmega Mighty 2 Filters

To evaluate an air purifier’s performance, we usually start by checking the types of filters it uses and the number of filtration layers included in the system. The Coway Airmega Mighty 2 runs the new 2-stage air cleaning system, which is a bit different from the original Mighty model.

1. Pre-filter – A vacuumable pre-filter is outside the main filter to capture large objects of contaminants. You can slide out the pre-filter to wash whenever you want.
2. Max2 filter – It combines the True HEPA filter and Activated Carbon filter, which is effective up to 99.97% of all particles down to 0.1 microns. The filter is also proven for odor, smell and gas removal.

From the flagships Airmega 400 and Airmega 300, Coway understands that an all-in-one filter design is often more practical and user-friendly than separate filter layers. An all-in-one filter design also provides a better seal, allowing manufacturers to fit a larger filter into the same air purifier chassis. It is easier and faster to install compared to traditional separate filter layers, while also reducing the risk of incorrect installation.

At this price range, the Coway Airmega Mighty 2 needs to step up for harder test from Breathe Quality. However, it does decently for the test, capturing 99,7% of all particles down to 0.3 microns, after just 1 hour. It’s behind the Airmega 350 which is more expensive, as well as the Blue Pure 211i Max, Levoit Core 600S, and Winix 9800.

The new Max2 filter for the Coway Airmega Mighty 2 is rated to last up to one year, and the replacement set costs $69. Keep in mind that the package includes two filters, which helps justify the higher price.

Coway Airmega Mighty 2 Room Coverage

According to Coway, the Coway Airmega Mighty 2 is designed for rooms up to 1,800 square feet. In our opinion, that coverage claim is overly optimistic. We prefer to follow AHAM-based recommendations, and by those standards, we suggest using the Airmega Mighty 2 in rooms of around 360 square feet, similar to the original Airmega Mighty.

The ACH of the Airmega Mighty 2 is 4X. If you’re using the air purifier in the Coway’s suggested room size, the air purifier will exchange air only once per hour.

The CADR of the Airmega Mighty 2 is 242 Dust/ 240 Smoke/ 249 Pollen (cfm). Very similar to other Mighty models.

Coway Airmega Mighty 2 Sound

It’s clearly Coway is using the different fan power in this Airmega Mighty 2. As a result, the new Airmega Mighty 2 is quieter, at only 19 decibels (dB). It is quieter than the sound of rustling leaves.

Even the highest fan speed is quieter than the original Mighty model, at only 50 decibels. If you’re looking for the quietest air purifier in the world, Coway is a name you can’t skip.

Coway Airmega Mighty 2 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” An air purifier is meant to run for a long time to be efficient, that’s why many air purifier brands consider the energy-saving standard, mostly in the rate of Energy Star, is one important selling point.

The Airmega Mighty 2 isn’t rated by Energy Star, but its power consumption is super low at only 56 watts. Honestly, air purifiers keep getting better, because the original Energy Star Airmega Mighty has a power consumption of 78 watts.

If you’re using the Airmega Mighty 2 for at least 8 hours per day, you need to pay $24.54 annually.

Coway Airmega Mighty 2 Additional Features

The Coway Airmega Mighty 2 features a numerical air quality index display alongside the traditional color-coded AQI indicator. In addition, the Airmega Mighty 2 includes both dust and smoke sensors, which helps improve the accuracy of its Auto mode. As a result, the air purifier can respond more precisely to changing air conditions in the environment.

The famous Eco mode is returning to the second version of the Airmega Mighty, which can save energy further than the normal Auto mode. Coway is confident to show that its Mighty 2 can save up to 20% energy, in comparison with other brands.

However, unlike the Coway AP-1512HHS, the Coway Airmega Mighty 2 does not support Wi-Fi connectivity. Instead, you will rely on the manual controls, which are still quite convenient thanks to features like Child Lock, a Night Light, and a Timer. The filter replacement indicator is also numerical, making it more precise than a standard LED reminder system.

The Coway Airmega Mighty 2 is definitely the better version of the famous Coway AP-1512HH, although that improvement is expected given its higher price point. It also faces much stronger competition from more capable air purifiers than its predecessors ever did, so the real question becomes: do you genuinely prefer Coway as a brand?
