Before the Coway AP-1512HH had become a standard of any low-range air purifiers, we have a smaller unit named Coway AP-0512NH. The device, which is both smaller and weaker, has its own traits to deserve a place beside the big brother. Finally, we have a testing unit to make a proper Coway AP-0512NH Review for you.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:

- Great True HEPA filter
- The Soothing Sound is amazing
- The color is quite cheap
- The fan power is too weak
- No Eco Mode
Coway has marked the 30-year milestone in 2019, as a symbol in air purifying technology in Korea and all over the world. The United States is the top targeted market for every product of this company, and that’s why you can believe in their customer service anytime. The last thing we need to know is the quality of this air purifier, and let’s find out in our Coway AP-0512NH Review.
Other Coway’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Coway AP-0512NH Price
It is indeed cheaper than the Coway-AP1512HH, but how much? The Coway AP-0512NH is a baby brother to Coway’s famous air purifier. To do that, Coway reduces the stage in this air purifier’s air filtration process, cuts down the size and even the fan power. As a result, the Coway AP-0512NH is not a solid contender for the price.
The original price in Coway website for this Coway AP-0512NH is $197, but with a great Amazon deal of us, you can check a much lower price below.
Just a few years ago, the arch-rival of Coway – Winix has released lots of air purifiers to become the top leader of this low-range segment. Their consecutive devices, the Winix 5300-2, Winix C535 and Winix 5500-2 are all the most favorite options for around $150. With great commercial success, and actually innovative power, the Coway AP-1512HH establish a solid foothold in the budget market for this brand, against all the heating up competitions. However, it seems the Coway AP-0512NH can not achieve much success like its brother.
Even if you grab our deal, and can buy this air purifier at a much lower price, and even if you can ignore these aforementioned Winix devices, you can’t pretend that you don’t notice other devices in American region. Honeywell is that big brand, with their Honeywell HPA100 and Honeywell AirGenius 3 to win the budget market. Yes, with many other companies offering similar or better specs, you can see the success of Coway AP-0512NH is far from guaranteed.

Coway AP-0512NH Design and Size
My first impression when looking at the Coway AP-0512NH is “woa, a similar device to Coway-AP1512HH“. However, I quickly notice that, though Coway never say it’s the intention, the Coway AP-0512NH is just a “cheap” version. It shares much of the brother’s style, but grafting it onto a smaller (and in my opinion, uglier) air purifier.
The “cheap” feeling is mostly from the aquamarine color of this device. It is pale and cheap, especially combine with the plastic body of the Coway AP-0512NH.
But put this opinion aside and you can see how much similar the Coway AP-0512NH and its brother can be. You still have a plastic plate on front, to cover the air intake grill. On top of this air purifier, we can find the control panel and one outlet air grill, too.
With one Sound Therapy setting and the Volume functions, the control panel of this device will be full of buttons.
The Coway AP-0512NH is a little bit smaller, with only 14.5 inches in height and 13.8 inches in width. That being said, it is only 9 lbs, and could be a great compact air purifier in any room’s nightstand. However, you still can find a more lightweight device, like the Honeywell HPA100 with only 7.7 lbs, or even the Levoit LV-H132 with just 6 lbs for a True HEPA air purifier.

Coway AP-0512NH Filters
The high quality and air filter types are always the absolute metric when determining the performance of one air purifier, yet marketing types have been keen for years to have the world believe that the more air filters, the better. And that’s a standard the Coway AP-0512NH doesn’t come close to reaching.
- Pre-filter – The pre-filter of this Coway AP-0512NH has attached the Activated Carbon Filter, which is capable of both dealing with large objects of pollutants and deodorizing.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter can capture 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles. It combines with a bipolar ionizer technology to improve the performance.
For the quality, True HEPA filter from the Coway products is the top class in air purifier industry. They are certified to be able to remove 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns particles. Moreover, the Coway AP-0512NH has bipolar ionizer to ensure the trapping efficiency. The only negative side is the ionizer emits ozone, and can irritate asthma and breathing issues. I have checked the ozone emission and believe that it is still under the standard set by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
The performance of this True HEPA filter is reflected by a common Breathe Quality’s test. This time, I chose the Honeywell HPA100 and Winix 5300-2. We run all these air purifiers in a room of 100 square feet for 1 hour. The result, Winix 5300-2 was the winner with a high efficiency of 99.97% for any particle as small as 0.3 microns. Both the Honeywell HPA100 and Coway AP-0512NH shares the same efficiency, with 99.9%.
So to say, the performance of Coway AP-0512NH is quite decent, but it is enough to help you breathe more clean air. For the air filter, you need to change the True HEPA filter once per year, with a cost of $34. This cost is quite similar to the GermGuardian AC5350B, and much better than the Winix 5300-2.

Coway AP-0512NH Room Coverage
The 155 square feet, by the standard of most low-range air purifiers these days, may seem slightly paltry. After all, with only $50 more, the Coway AP-1512HH can cover exactly double the room coverage of this Coway AP-0512NH. But for this price, others like GermGuardian AC5350B or Honeywell HPA100 aren’t better. If you need an air purifier to clean such large room, look for the Winix 5300-2 or SilverOnyx.
The ACH of Coway AP-0512NH is only 2X. For an air purifier with small fan, the Coway AP-0512NH will exchange the air in your room every 30 minutes.
The CADR of Coway AP-0512NH is 110 Dust/ 100 Smoke/ 110 Pollen (cfm). The CADR rating is similar to the Honeywell HPA100, which means your Coway AP-0512NH is enough to clean a small room quickly.

Coway AP-0512NH Sound
The Coway AP-0512NH is designed for bedroom, and the sound is the unique selling point of this device. This is not about the noise level of this air purifier, but about the soothing sound function of Coway AP-0512NH.
You can select from the 6 Sounds Therapy, with 3 nature sounds of rain, ocean and cricket; 2 lullaby sounds from Schubert or Brahms; or just a plain white noise. Whatever you choose, these sounds will result in positive therapeutic effects on sleep problems. Remember that you can change the volume of these sounds, which fit you the most.
With this feature, the Coway AP-0512NH is a great candidate for the best air purifier for bedroom, if not for the Coway AP-1512HH to take the throne.

Coway AP-0512NH Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review how much energy this air purifier will consume.
In my day-to-day use, I’ve found the power consumption of this Coway AP-0512NH about 55 watts. For a smaller device, this air purifier consumes much less energy than its big brother, which is 78 watts. However, in 2019, the power consumption of this Coway AP-0512NH is just adequate. That is to say, we have better devices out there, with power consumption to only half of our Coway air purifier.
For running the Coway AP-0512NH 8 hours per day, you need to pay for $20 per year.

Coway AP-0512NH Additional Features
Beside the interesting Sound function, what could we expect from a budget air purifier like Coway AP-0512NH?
I guess that we don’t have much choice, as the old Coway AP-0512NH doesn’t have the signature Eco Mode of this company. And therefore, no Smart Sensor for the price. Winix 5300-2 and Winix C535 will be a better alternatives if you need this function.
If you buy this air purifier, you will have the Timer function as well as a great LED indicator for filter replacement. Not much, but it is helpful, right?
