Coway should be the best South Korean air purifier manufacturer at the moment, winning the 1st prize in Korea Consumer Electronics Market Share & Brand Awareness. The company brings just a couple of units to compete in the United States market, but it is enough to make the company No.1 choice for air purifiers. In our today Coway Airmega 150 Review, let’s review the most affordable Coway product, which replaces the old Coway AP-0512NH.
Other Coway’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Coway AIRMEGA 150 Price
You usually get what you pay for when it comes to air purifiers, but the Airmega 150 is one of the very few air purifiers that your low budget should afford. Don’t expect miracles at this price, but the Coway’s quality manages to reach respectability in all the areas that matter most.
The Coway Airmega 150 won’t let you down if you’re keen to spend as little as possible on your next air purifier purchase. Yes, at $149 and always in stock, the Coway Airmega 150 will be the device you need for your small or medium-sized room.
This air purifier will be a great competitor to many successful devices on the market like the LivePure Apsen, Hunter HP700, Bissell air220, Vornado AC550 and Medify MA-25. However, if you love an air purifier with more Smart features, you should get either the Levoit Vital 200S or TCL Breeva A5 instead.
We hope that the Coway Airmega 150 will take the ‘budget’ label just about as far as it can go, even for a brand like Coway – one of the first names we think of when it comes to famous budget Coway AP-1512HH that manage to offer decent value, successfully mixing low prices with respectable performance. This will be the answer of Coway to its biggest competitor – Winix that sold new Winix AM80 at very low price.

Coway AIRMEGA 150 Design and Size
This is one of the cheapest air purifiers around, full stop, and everything else in this review has to be weighed against that. You haven’t forgotten the low, low price of this air purifier, have you? We’re going to keep mentioning it. For a handset that’s as light on the wallet as this one, the Coway Airmega 150 doesn’t look bad at all, though you’re not suddenly going to confuse it for a premium-level device.
Of course, with the cheaper devices being more beautiful, Coway can’t keep the old design of the Coway AP-1512HH in any new product. The Coway Airmega 150 looks exactly like the latest models of Winix, the Winix AM90 and AM80. If you don’t like the design, the Airmega 160 could be your best pick.
The perforated holes lead the way, which is a sensible balance between being able to capture large amounts of dust and actually being good-looking. As is the norm on the sub-$200 air purifiers we’ve tried, you get a basic plastic housing running the bottom-to-top air flow system concept. Don’t think the common concept is bad, as more than 90% of current air purifiers use this airflow direction.
The highlight of this Coway Airmega 150 is its new EZ-release pre-filter design, which helps you remove the pre-filter for regular washing. The air filter’s space is smaller, so it reduces the dusty mess, which is a problem when changing the air filter.
The Airmega 150’s design is the winner of three international design awards, including the Good Design Award, the IF Design Award, and the Finalist Award. The compact design can fit in any space because the Airmega 150 has a smaller size at 18 x 13.4 x 6.5 inches. In fact, it has a smaller footprint than other Coway models.
It has 3 color options: Dove White (which is our today’s unit), Peony Pink and Sage Green. I will put a link to the green color option, so you can check whether it is your favorite color.
The top control panel of this Airmega 150 is aesthetic and simple, and I believe you will love it more than the old AP-1512HH model. There are only 3 buttons, but that’s enough to control this device.

It’s not going to embarrass you with a little more weight than common bedroom-centric air purifiers, at 12 lbs. It is in fact similar to the Levoit LV-PUR131, and it is also lighter than the common Winix 5500-2.

Coway AIRMEGA 150 Filters
The air filtration system of the Coway Airmega 150 is fine, and because we love the quality of the old Coway AP-1512HH, I truly believe in the 3-stage air purification system of this air purifier.
- Pre-filter – An extractor-type washable pre-filter will help you capture the large particles of contaminants, such as pet hair, human hair, and mold. It is easy to remove, so you can maintain your unit easily. Slide out, rinse, and hang to dry.
- Activated Carbon Filter – This deodorization filter works its best to deodorize and trap harmful gases to keep your place fresh and odor-free.
- True HEPA filter – The high-performance composite True HEPA filter captures 99.97% of allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold, and fungi down to 0.3 microns. It has an antibacterial backing to prevent bacteria and mold spores from growing there.
Without the ionizer, the Coway Airmega 150 is fine with a natural anti-bacterial treatment. You are absolutely not going to prefer this traditional multi-layered air filtration to an all-in-one filter, but three separate air filters normally lead to better performance.
In compare with the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2, Sharp FP-K50UW and Honeywell HPA200, the Airmega 150 has a slightly lower performance, due to its lower fan power. In a room of 150 square feet, the result of 99.92% is not bad, however.
The only drawback of this high-quality air filter is its cost. Yes, the Airmega 150’s filter (AP-1019C) costs $45 and can last only one year. It seems Coway has raised the filter cost for all of its models.

Coway AIRMEGA 150 Room Coverage
The Coway Airmega 150 is recommended for use in rooms of 214 square feet, as suggested by the manufacturer. Its room coverage is only suitable for the pollen type (the largest object of pollutants).
The ACH of Coway Airmega 150 is 4X. This air purifier will clean your room every 15 minutes.
The CADR of Coway Airmega 150 is 161 Dust/ 138 Smoke/ 219 Pollen (cfm). With its low Smoke CADR, the air purifier is only recommended for personal use in small rooms.

Coway AIRMEGA 150 Sound
One of the biggest advantages of low fan power is obviously the lower noise level. At 24 decibels (dB), you won’t hear anything from this Coway Airmega 150.
The maximum noise level of this air purifier is just 48.3 decibels, which is a lot better than the Coway AP-1512HH. It seems the air purifier will be a better candidate for the best air purifier for bedrooms if only it has better performance.

Coway AIRMEGA 150 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifiers must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criterion for reviewing how much energy this air purifier will consume.
The Airmega 150 doesn’t feature the signature Eco Mode, but as an Energy Star air purifier, it has great low-energy consumption. At just 35 watts, this air purifier can run 24/7 without burning through your bill.
If you’re going to use the Coway Airmega 150 for 8 hours per day, you only need to pay $12.5 per year.

Coway AIRMEGA 150 Additional Features
The Airmega 150 does what the Coway AP-1512HH did best, introducing the Auto Mode that changes the fan speed according to the air quality, thanks to the dust air sensor. Real-time monitoring keeps you informed of the status of your air quality, and you can also turn off the light if you need to sleep.
You can adjust the sensitivity of your air sensor by pressing and holding both the Mode and Filter buttons at the same time. The Airmega 150 has three different levels of air sensor sensitivity.
Finally, we have LED indicators for filter replacement. This feature will keep reminding you when to change the filter for optimal performance.

Our verdict
The Coway Airmega 150 is a solid air purifier at an excellent price. It’s not necessarily a case of five stars for the flagship air purifier and one star for the budget one, because you have to factor in how much you’re spending. In the case of this air purifier, you get all the additional features of the better ones, at a much lower price.
