The Blueair DustMagnet 5210i is a dainty yet smart delight. This air purifier is built for those who have been dreaming of owning a Blueair console air purifier but aren’t ready to spend money for the HealthProtect series. And Blueair has done an exceedingly good job at making that a reality, still being certified by the AHAM, CARB, Energy Star and Intertek.

It has a more premium version called Blueair DustMagnet 5240i, and we’re running both to compare the performance. Spoiler alert: you should buy the Blueair DustMagnet 5210i for only $319, $40 less with the same performance as the DustMagnet 5240i.

It isn’t perfect, as its fan power is a bit below the competition like the Coway AP-1512HHS, Levoit Core 600S and its own brothers in different line: the Blue Pure 311 Auto and Blue Pure 211 Auto. But if you can put this negative aside, you will love the Blueair DustMagnet 5210i and even pay more for its premium version, because it has great smart features and extremely economical for long-term running.

If you can stretch budget more, options of the Blueair DustMagnet 5410i and DustMagnet 5440i are much better for larger rooms, but at the extra of $80.

Blueair DustMagnet 5210i Design and Size

Blueair DustMagnet 5210i is a very special air purifier you can find on the market, along with its brothers in family. It doesn’t have the casters like other common Blueair air purifiers you’ve seen, but it’s a welcome alternative for those who want a smaller air purifier, and who’ve looked on in dismay as Blueair has released big air purifiers with high cost.

It essentially the basic design concept of the whole DustMagnet family, an air purifier with a small “table” on top, so you can put anything on it for convenient. The design is interesting, but after months of running the air purifier, the table is a hidden place for dust, just like its name DustMagnet implies.

With dimensions of 20.5 x 8.6 x 8.6 inches, it’s smaller than most other Blueair air purifiers. It’s also light, without feeling too light – at 10 lbs, you can trust it can stand on its own toes. The legs is also a good design for the Blueair DustMagnet 5210i, as it helps its fan power to maximize the volume of air into the unit, and reduces the dust settled in the bottom. Bravo design, Blueair.

The Blueair DustMagnet 5210i is the standard version of the series, with white color. I also find the white color is suitable for any devices that sucks dust. If you prefer a more premium texture, you should look for the DustMagnet 5240i or DustMagnet 5440i.

Blueair DustMagnet 5210i will run a very strange airflow system concept, with the air inlets on top and bottom, while the air outlets from both sides. That makes me think of a reverse design from the original Blueair Classic 605, also implemented in the Blueair HealthProtect 7770i. As I must say, even the budget Blueair air purifier feels premium.

The control panel is hidden under the table, and with as little buttons as it should be, because the Blueair DustMagnet 5210i is a true smart air purifier. You will control it either with your smartphone or Alexa voice control.

Blueair DustMagnet 5210i Filters

As the most important criteria to decide the performance of one air purifier, we always look at the quality and material of the air filters, as well as the number of air filter types in the testing device. Blueair DustMagnet 5210i features the signature HEPASilent technology from the first Blueair device.

Though the company doesn’t say much, I’m certain this is still the core of HEPASilent technology, which combines both electrostatic charging and mechanical filtration to improve the performance of the HEPA filter. However, it seems the Blueair DustMagnet 5210i is just a simple “dust-magnet” air purifier with a light carbon cloth attached inside.

Still, this is the certified air purifier by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) for its great performance. Blueair DustMagnet 5210i also doesn’t emit ozone, certified by both the CARB and Intertek.

The last but not least, all of Blueair air filters are naturally anti-bacterial and 100% recyclable. It is free of chemicals and binders.

Blueair DustMagnet 5210i is a bit behind the competition, but it certainly doesn’t lack power. It’s suitably powerful as it can clean 99.7% of all particles down to 0.3 microns in our test of 200 square feet, for 1 hour. Well, that’s a bit behind the Medify MA-35 and Oransi Max, but not by much.

However, the best thing about the combo filter of the Blueair DustMagnet 5210i and DustMagnet 5240i is that it is only $44 and can last for 1 year. That’s why its annual cost ranking is great, in fact, it is a lot better than its brother Blue Pure 211 Auto.

Blueair DustMagnet 5210i Room Coverage

Blueair DustMagnet 5210i is completely certified by the AHAM, so the manufacturer doesn’t need to suggest room coverage for this air purifier. Both 5200 models are certified to clean up to 212 square feet. While that may not match a lot of other manufacturers on paper, we found that any air purifiers comply with AHAM certification is better in terms of quality. That’s why we consider it as an increase in performance ranking.

The ACH of Blueair DustMagnet 5210i is 5X. This ACH rating is certified by AHAM too, so you can enjoy clean air every 12 minutes.

The CADR of Blueair DustMagnet 5210i is 133 Dust/ 137 Smoke/ 140 Pollen (cfm). Yes, we know it is even lower than the Classic 205 that you loved in the past, but our test indicated that the performance of the Blueair DustMagnet 5210i is still decent for the competition.

Blueair DustMagnet 5210i, while not being as powerful as its brothers, is really quiet. It can trim the noise level to only 23 decibels (dB) on lowest fan speed, and that’s just like the sound of rustling leaves. That’s the power of HEPASilent technology.
