Other Honeywell’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Honeywell HPA5300 Price
Honeywell air purifiers typically deliver top-notch performance for the price, strengthen the specs of the already great Honeywell HPA300, and add a Smart Sensor. While the trend toward making smart air purifiers is increasing, the raw performance of a Honeywell air purifier shouldn’t be taken lightly.
And the Honeywell HPA5300 needs that strength because the Levoit Core 600S is doing perfectly for a competitive price. That being said, the Honeywell HPA5300’s initial price of $319 isn’t really appealing, but if you get it via our deal at $249, that’s another story.
For an air purifier with as impressive specs and capabilities as this, that’s a rather low price, and I was expecting it to cost a little more. However, our performance ranking is formed of both raw fan power and energy efficiency, and I will conclude the result later.
Still, I must say that the price of this Honeywell HPA5300 is comfortably below the Airmega 230, Winix 9800 and Blue Pure 211+, but a reasonable amount above the middle Honeywell HPA5200. If you want an air purifier with an impressive warranty policy, you shouldn’t skip this Honeywell HPA5300.

Honeywell HPA5300 Design and Size
On the surface, the Honeywell HPA5300 doesn’t look particularly different from any of its brother – the Honeywell HPA5200 or Honeywell HPA5100. However, appearances can be deceiving, and the HPA5300’s design is reminiscent of older Honeywell air purifiers.
The Honeywell HPA5300 isn’t quite plus-sized, but it’s still large for a large-room air purifier, with a body measuring roughly 22.3 x 19 x 10 inches. The Honeywell HPA5300 weighs 27 lbs, which is comparable to the weight of large flagships from other brands.
As I previously stated, the Honeywell HPA5300 is similar to its siblings, but it is a world apart from previous Honeywell air purifiers. It features parallel vertical air grills, which are less likely to gather dust.
On the left side of the device, you can find one of the Honeywell HPA5300’s most useful features: the air sensor. It stays near the air inlet, making the reading of the air quality index much more accurate. By the time you smoke or cook something, the Honeywell HPA5300 will adjust its fan speed immediately.
Honeywell HPA5300 uses a traditional bottom-to-top airflow system concept, so it can maximize its already great fan power to deliver clean air throughout large rooms. The air outlet is covered by the clear display that the company dubbed “Display At-a-Glance.”

However, the most annoying thing I’ve had from Honeywell air purifiers is installing the pre-filter. The pre-filter is quite hard to insert, and removing it whenever you need to clean it is a messy task. Honeywell really needs to look at its competitors, like the Winix 9800 or Airmega 230, with their easy-to-remove pre-filter.

Honeywell HPA5300 Filters
It is generally advised to check the quality and quantity of an air purifier’s filters first. The Honeywell HPA5300 runs on the same platform as its predecessors, like the Honeywell HPA300, but adds an optional carbon filter for better smoke and odor absorption.
- Pre-filter – The pre-filter is a carbon filter. This will both help adsorb VOCs, gases, and odors and trap larger particles. You will need to replace this filter after 3 months of usage.
- Optional Activated Carbon filter – A honeycombed carbon filter is specially formulated for customization.
- HRFSK1: Formulated with potassium permanganate and activated carbon for faster odor adsorption and reduction.
- HRFSS1: Formulated with treated activated carbon for smoke and odor adsorption.
- HRFSP1: Formulated with activated carbon and zeolite for pet odor adsorption.
- HRFSC1: Formulated with pelletized activated carbon for VOCs adsorption.
- True HEPA filter – The Honeywell HPA5300 uses a True HEPA filter to capture up to 99.97% of contaminant particles down to 0.3 microns, like pet dander, mold, viruses, bacteria, and pollen.
The Honeywell HPA5300 runs the original HRF-R3 filter that reminds me back to the day of the HPA300, which is still one of the best HEPA filter on low-range segment. The air filter is thick and high-quality, and it seems to last even longer than 12 months. One of our friends even run his good-old HPA300 for 2 years without filter replacement.
But the selling point of the new Honeywell HPA5300 is its optional Activated Carbon filter, which is formulated with high-quality carbon and mixed chemicals. Honeywell definitely wants to emphasize its new products for dealing with wildfire smoke, so it isn’t a surprise to see the Honeywell HPA5300 with such amazing performance and a new carbon filter.

The Honeywell HPA5300 performed very well in our test, as it can clean a room of 300 square feet in only 1 hour. It matched in terms of performance even more expensive air purifiers like the Blue Pure 211 Auto, Airmega 250S and Whirlpool WPPRO2000.
You will need exactly the HRF-R3 filter for this Honeywell HPA5300, or 3 (qty) HRF-R1 air filters. I recommend to get the HRF-R3 for cheaper cost, and you need to replace the air filter every 12 months.

Honeywell HPA5300 Room Coverage
Honeywell HPA5300 is an air purifier tested and verified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), and I must confess that I almost forgot to write this section when we were testing the air purifier. And that’s because the performance was verified and far from our minds. We never had cause to worry about the top Honeywell air purifier making it through even extra-large rooms.
The room coverage of the Honeywell HPA5300 is 500 square feet, so the headline on its website is very much the truth. It’s not the greatest on paper, but in practice, I found the air purifier to be the last large-room air purifier you need to pay for.
The ACH of Honeywell HPA5300 is 5x. All air purifiers verified by AHAM tests will clean a suggested room size 5 times per hour, meaning the Honeywell HPA5300 can clean a 500-sq-ft room every 12 minutes.
The CADR of Honeywell HPA5300 is 339 Dust/ 323 Smoke/ 335 Pollen (cfm). If you can get this Honeywell HPA5300 with our deal, I bet that you can’t find any cheaper air purifier with better fan power. It’s behind the Levoit Core 600S, obviously, but it’s cheaper at the moment.

Honeywell HPA5300 Sound
Sadly, the more powerful the Honeywell HPA5300 is, the louder it makes. Honeywell air purifiers never emphasize their quiet operation, to the point that the company forgot to include it on this Honeywell HPA5300’s page. The Honeywell HPA5300 performs okay at its lowest speed, at 30 decibels (dB), but it isn’t the quietest air purifier on the market.
But at its maximum “turbo” power, the Honeywell HPA5300 reaches 62 decibels. You should take note, because the air purifier can be even louder if its air filters are dirty. Perhaps it’s the trade-off you would make for the raw performance.

Honeywell HPA5300 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” because we need to run an air purifier for a long time, and power consumption is really something to consider. There is even a label named Energy Star for the most energy-efficient air purifiers, which we consider a point in our performance ranking.
The Honeywell HPA5300 is an Energy Star air purifier, and that isn’t something you couldn’t foresee, as the whole Honeywell lineup earned this label. Actually, the Honeywell HPA5300 has a better CADR/watt ratio than its little brothers, the Honeywell HPA5100 and Honeywell HPA5200. However, the result isn’t significantly better, and the rated power of the Honeywell HPA5300 is 108 watts. It is still much better than the old Honeywell HPA300.
If you plan to run the Honeywell HPA5300 for at least 8 hours per day, you need to pay up to $39 annually.

Honeywell HPA5300 Additional Features
Honeywell air purifiers seem to be late to the race of smart features, and the Honeywell HPA5300 doesn’t even have such features as the previous Honeywell HPA8350. I hope to see the later Honeywell HPA5350, which is supposed to be the “smarter” version.
The selling point of the Honeywell HPA5300 is its Insight Smart Sensor, which is included in most of the new products like the Honeywell HPA180 and Honeywell HPA830. It is a gas sensor, which is the most sensitive air sensor. When in Auto Mode, the Honeywell HPA5300 will use the air quality index to automatically adjust to the optimal cleaning level for cleaner air. It also provides color-coded feedback on the clear display, which Honeywell dubbed the “Display At-a-Glance Clear Panel.”
Other than that, it has the same features as the old HPA300, like a timer, auto dimmer setting, and a LED indicator for filter replacement.

Honeywell HPA5300 Customer Service
Honeywell is a market leader in air purifiers, but its customer service is not as friendly as that of competitors. You can reach customer service via the mailbox at the Honeywell Store at 407 N. Quentin Road, Palatine, Illinois. But I suggest you call 847-701-3038 for any support questions. Or you can email sales@honeywellstore.com for any problems you experience while on the site or after buying a product. Honeywell is available from Monday to Friday.
It doesn’t have free shipping like Rabbit Air or Alen, and you must notify customer service within one business day of any problems with a third-party shipping service like USPS or FedEx. Otherwise, it will not accept liability for any merchandise damage during transit. Also, the shipment can take up to 10 business days from the date that the order is shipped.
The hardest part is when you want to return one Honeywell air purifier, as you only have 30 days from the date you receive your item to process your return. If there is no transit damage or workmanship defects, you won’t receive the shipping charge (on both the original shipping charge and the return shipping charge) and will have to pay a 10–30% re-stocking fee.
Honeywell’s warranty policy is also among the longest in the industry, with up to 5 years of coverage.

Our verdict
The Honeywell HPA5300 is a high-end phone masquerading as a “premium” low-range air purifier, and it does a good job of showcasing high fan power. However, it is barred by the lack of smart features. We should hope the next Honeywell HPA5350 does better.
