It is the common belief for all air purifier brands that they can keep the same appearance and change only the internals of the machine. Reality is, the air purifier is just a home appliance, and the design is far less important thing. Sharp FP-F60UW is exactly this case. Generally, the bigger the better, but you need to read our Sharp FP-F60UW Review to see if it is true or not.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We do give honest reviews (both pros and cons) so anyone will guarantee to have the wisest choices.
- We do not (and never) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.
- Powerful air filtration system
- Elegant design
- Smart features like Smart Sensor
- Low fan power
- Problem with Customer service
In the U.S territory, Sharp may not be a popular name, especially after the antitrust law violation in 2008. But in fact, this Japanese brand is a long-time leader in electronic product history. So, let’s get back to our Sharp FP-F60UW Review.
Sharp FP-F60UW Price
If you handled the Sharp FP-F50UW in the past few years, you will feel the Sharp FP-F60UW instantly familiar.
It is just like what Honeywell did with their Honeywell HPA300 over the Honeywell HPA200, or what Austin Air did with their Austin Air HealthMate Plus over the HealthMate Plus Jr. Basically, every top brand keeps the main housing for their devices, so they can recycle the old parts easier.
And just like its little brother, the Sharp FP-F60UW is another air purifier targeting at budget segment, with a price of $334. Yes, $55 is what you need to upgrade your Sharp air purifier to run in the medium-size room.
However, Sharp moves into a very hard playground, and their pricing is not the best you could get. For only $200, you can find lots of air purifiers with high-quality performance and better fan power than the Sharp FP-F60UW. Winix 5300-2, Winix C535 and Coway AP-1512HH are just a few names in my head.
Even if you can afford $300 without any trouble, you should expect a much better customer service. And this is where the Oransi OV200 and Alen BreatheSmart FLEX are rising as the best choices. Well, for all intents and purposes it is, the Sharp FP-F60UW is not a success, either.
Then, I hope this deal for the Sharp FP-F60UW can light your mood up a little bit. Otherwise, why don’t check my aforementioned suggestions, they will suit your needs well.

Sharp FP-F60UW Design and Size
Look at the Sharp FP-F60UW, and it is unmistakably an upgrade from the previous Sharp FP-F50UW. It’s a plastic shell, with rounded corners and a slippy body. The white color is quite bright and suitable with the material that makes the Sharp FP-F60UW.
For the size, the Sharp FP-F60UW is just a little bit bigger than its brother. Stands in 23 inches height, it is hard to tell the difference, and unless you look at the control panel and check the model name, you may mistake it.
And again, we will have the classic bottom-to-top air flow system, with a large back panel that acts as a pre-filter. To improve the performance, you should vacuum or wash the back panel more often. The top outlet of this Sharp FP-F60UW is a bit higher than the previous FP-F50UW, and thus, it is a bit more elegant, colored with bright white instead of grey.
The control panel of this Sharp FP-F60UW is more colorful than the FP-F50UW. You will have LED indicators for the dust and odor sensor, as well as to show if the Plasmacluster feature is on or off.

The handle of this Sharp FP-F60UW is set higher, too, so it is a much easier task when you need to move it. But for the weight, it is a bit heavier than the predecessor with 12.5 lbs.

Sharp FP-F60UW Filters
When we decide to buy an air purifier, we need to know about the air filtration process and what air filter types are used. Sharp FP-F60UW represents the Japanese strongest air filters, with a 3-stage air cleaning system.
- Activated Carbon Filter – It helps reduce the pet odors and smoke, as well as some common household chemicals.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter that captures 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns particles like pollen, dust, pet dander, smoke, germs, bacteria, viruses, odors, mold, and fungus.
- Plasmacluster Technology – This technology is one kind of ionizers, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.
Inherited the same internals from the previous Sharp FP-F50UW, the Sharp FP-F60UW makes use of both True HEPA filter and Plamacluster technology to deal with any kinds of airborne allergens. I guess that you don’t know what is the Plasmacluster technology, right? It can emit both negative and positive ions, to form hydroxyls that decompose the protein and suppressing activity of the viruses. This technology can even remove static electricity.
Sharp has a very exclusive, but high-level expertise in making the high-quality air filters. Both the Activated Carbon filter and True HEPA filter can last for 5 years, and from my knowledge, there are not many air purifier brand that can guarantee such long life time. Normally, a True HEPA filter can only last for 6 months to 1 year.
Let’s see, what can I put into the test with this Sharp FP-F60UW? This time, I set the difficulty of the test to a room of 200 sq ft, and the addition is good enough to see if the Sharp FP-F60UW is worth your money to upgrade or not. In this price range, you must consider a lot of popular air purifier brands before buying, and that’s why I selected 5 different air purifiers from 5 different brands. We will see if the Sharp FP-F60UW performed against the Winix HR950, Alen BreatheSmart FLEX, Blue Pure 211, Whirlpool WPPRO2000 and Levoit LV-H133. For the result, you can see from the below chart.
In real-world use, such efficiency is high for a portable air purifier. And the HEPA filter cost of the Sharp FP-F60UW can be found from $60, which means $12 for the annual filter cost. It is quite good, especially when compare with the high filter cost of the Winix C535 or Oransi OV200.

Sharp FP-F60UW Room Coverage
Though Sharp FP-F60UW is designed for medium room coverage, it seems the word “medium-size” is not much bigger than the “small-size” one. This air purifier is only capable for a room of 280 sq ft, compared with the size of 210 sq ft from Sharp FP-F50UW.
The ACH of Sharp FP-F60UW is 4X. With this air changes per hour rating, this air purifier can clean your room every 15 minutes.

Sharp FP-F60UW Sound
Like the Sharp device before it, the LibraryQuiet operation is a selling point for the Sharp FP-F60UW. It is because of the weak fan power, and a smart design to make it sound-proof. With 3 fan speeds, you will enjoy the lowest noise level of only 26 db, which is as quiet as the famous Ultra Quiet Rabbit Air MinusA2 air purifier. In general use, you only keep the setting on lowest speed, and this air purifier will operate as silent as a whisper.
The highest noise level of this Sharp FP-F60UW is still welcomed in any household in the United States, as I measured the level of only 53 db. This is just like the normal conversation at home, and just 1/4 as loud as the threshold of 70 db – which some people consider as the base of the high noise.

Sharp FP-F60UW Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review how much energy this air purifier will consume.
The Sharp FP-F60UW is Energy Star rated, and it will only run at 4W for the lowest setting. There are not so many air purifiers that can compete with the Sharp FP-F60UW in terms of power consumption. Even if you run it on highest speed, the power rated is only 55W.
For running the Sharp FP-F60UW 8 hours per day, you need to pay $0.2 to $20 each year.

Sharp FP-F60UW Additional Features
Asian brands have a good tendency toward making an air purifier with lots of features. You should not be surprise if you find an air purifier with all of the most modern smart features in it, as it is also the selling point of these budget devices.
As a sacrifice for the weak fan power, the Sharp FP-F60UW will bring to you the most anticipating feature – the Smart Sensor. And it will tell you 2 different types of sensors – the dust sensor and the odor sensor. The Smart Sensor is used to check the actual level of air pollution inside your home, and quickly react to it by changing the proper fan speed. Today, more and more air purifiers are equipped with this handy feature, so the users won’t need to control their devices anymore.
Do you see the button with a cluster of grapes? This is the button to turn on/off the Plasmacluster function. Sharp said that when water molecules surround ions that are generated by plasma discharge, the result looks much like a cluster of grapes.
There is also the Child lock function, to prevent your kids from accidentally change the settings of this air purifier. The Off-timer is available, too. And you can find the Light Control function, to use when the light on the control panel is too bright. This is one of the most complaints for air purifiers in this price range, for example, the Coway AP-1512HH can’t deal with the light on its control panel.
With Sharp FP-F60UW, if you need a maximum performance for your indoor air quality, you can just press the Quick Clean function. The Sharp FP-F60UW will continuously discharge strong air flow cycles, and release the high-density Plasmacluster ions to remove the airborne allergens as they are drawn through the filter systems.
Sharp FP-F60UW Customer Service
Sharp is a huge brand, of course they are. But this brand is not as popular in the U.S market as it is in the rest of the world. Yes, marketing is one aspect of this unpopularity, but it also implies a difficulty in finding the good customer service if you live in the United States.
But don’t worry, as the U.S subsidiary of Sharp is quite active to hear from you. You can reach them toll free at 800-237-4277, or via email through their “Product Support” page. They are available for you 24/7, and this is one of the best parts for Sharp’s Customer Service.
However, for their air purifiers, they only provide an 1-year-warranty. For most situations, I believe this warranty is enough to cover your device.
Sharp FP-F60UW is a great air purifier to consider, but it is shadowed by the Sharp FP-A80UW which is a lot more efficient and higher value for the price.
Should I buy Sharp FP-F60UW?
Yes, but I suggest you to upgrade to the Sharp FP-A80UW for much better value.
- If you have serious allergies or asthma to airborne pollutants: the Sharp FP-F60UW is great with True HEPA filter and the Plasmacluster technology.
- If you want a better performance, or better fan power to clean your room faster: you should check the Winix C535, Winix 5300-2 or Winix 5500-2 for better fan power.
- If you need an air purifier with a better room coverage: you could look for the Austin Air HealthMate Jr, Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr, Alen BreatheSmart FLEX and Alen BreatheSmart 45i, as they all have better room coverage than this Sharp FP-F60W. Also, the Oransi Max has the largest room coverage, with 1100 sq ft.
- If you need a budget version of this air purifier: you can buy the Sharp FP-F50UW instead.
- If you need a more silent air purifier: the Sharp FP-F60UW is quiet for the price, and you can also research for the Winix NK100 or Winix NK105.
- If you care about the annual filter cost and energy cost: this is the best filter replacement cost you can have, but you should look for the Levoit LV-H133, because it has better annual energy cost.
- If you love the additional features: you should look for the Winix HR1000, Winix NK105, Winix QS, Blueair Sense+, or Honeywell HPA250B for both Smart Sensor and Smart Wifi connectivity feature.
- Cleaning Power
- Power Consumption
This is the good air purifier to save your energy, but for the fan power, it is a little bit disappointing.
