Sharp entered the U.S air purifier market with only a portion of their incredible device machines, so if you want some popular air purifiers from the domestic Japan market of this company, chance is you need to import. The Sharp IG-EX20 is one of these air purifiers, so you need our Sharp IG-EX20 Review before deciding to buy it.
Other Sharp’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Sharp IG-EX20 Price
We have a lot of imported Sharp air purifiers, which are completely out of warranty from the official Sharp in the U.S market. The top examples are Sharp KC-F70-W, Sharp KC-B50 and Sharp KC-H50-W. Also, the Sharp FP-A28UW can be found on Amazon, but with limited availability.
In a short span of time, the company has managed to build a presence for themselves in the U.S market, just like how Winix and Philips did in the past. Now, we are searching for another imported Sharp air purifier, which are quite popular in the domestic market. The Sharp IG-EX20 is a suitable device for your bathroom, and many readers have requested us to write a review for it.
Sharp IG-EX20 can be found on Amazon, and you should check our deal to see the exact price. I believe the price on Amazon in Japan region is much lower, down to around ￥8900, or $80 for the Sharp IG-EX20. On Amazon for the United States, however, the price may be higher.
For the price of this Sharp IG-EX20, you’d better check other ‘official’ product to get the covered warranty. Perhaps the Levoit LV-H132, VAVA VA-EE014, RENPHO RP-AP068 or Bissell MyAir are your best bets to clean a small place. If you like the ionizer concept, you can also choose from the Holmes HAP242 or Holmes HAP9240.

Sharp IG-EX20 Design and Size
When I got a copy of the Sharp IG-EX20, the first thing that caught my attention is its compact size. It looks like a cube, with both width and depth to be only 3.5 inches. The height is only 3.7 inches, making the air purifier very small, and you can put it easily on shelf or rack in the bathroom.
It seems Sharp gave this portable ion air purifier many color options. Our today unit uses the traditional white color, but you can also get the black version, too. Just check our below link.
Turn the air purifier around, and you will find an air intake on the left of this Sharp IG-EX20, and the operational button on the right. Right on front of this air purifier, there is an iconic symbol of Plasmacluster – the exclusive air filtration technology of Sharp.
This Sharp IG-EX20 runs a simple bottom-to-top air flow system concept, and the fresh air will come out from the top louver. The original set of Sharp IG-EX20 packs with a stand, so you can put this air purifier on bathroom without worrying about it being damaged by the damp.
This air purifier also packs with an USB cable and an AC adapter, but you should notice that the AC adapter is rated 240 volts, which can’t applied for any household in the U.S. You can charge the air purifier with laptop, however. The power cord’s length is 6 feet.
Well, the Sharp IG-EX20 is super light, with only 0.7 lbs in weight. It can compare with any personal air purifiers like Airdog FitAir, and you can bring it with you anywhere.

Sharp IG-EX20 Filters
As an air purifier to fresh the odors in the bathroom, the Sharp IG-EX20 only comes with the exclusive air filtration technology from the Japanese company.
- Plasmacluster Technology – This technology is one kind of ionizer, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.
For anyone who don’t know about the Plasmacluster technology, it is the award-winning air cleaning method in Japan. By using both positive and negative ions, Sharp IG-EX20 can form hydroxyls that decompose the protein and suppressing activity of the biological particles like viruses, mold spores and bacteria. Moreover, any positive ions can tackle with the negative ions founded in organic odors, and remove it completely.
Unlike common Sharp air purifiers like the Sharp FP-F50UW, Sharp FP-K50UW or Sharp FP-F60UW with only 7000 ions/cm3, the Sharp IG-EX20 releases 25000 ions/cm3 to guarantee the freshest air you can get in your bathroom. However, because this air purifier is an imported product, it isn’t certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to be allowed to ship to California state.
Well, the Sharp IG-EX20 doesn’t need any filter replacement, so you just need to pay the upfront cost.

The CADR of Sharp IG-EX20 is 2.8 cfm in general, or 4.8 m³/h, at maximum fan speed.

Sharp IG-EX20 Sound
Without a HEPA filter, the Sharp IG-EX20 can very quiet when operating. The noise level of this air purifier is only 22 decibels (db) on lowest fan speed, which is just like the noise of rustling leaves.
On highest speed, the air purifier can move more air and be noisier. Its highest noise level is only 31 decibels, something you can imagine as the whisper.
If you plan to use the Sharp IG-EX20 for personal use in bedroom or nursery, it’s safe and sound to use the device.

Sharp IG-EX20 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review how much energy this air purifier will consume.
Sharp IG-EX20 is just an ionizer, and it is the product of Sharp – a company with a lot of Energy Star rated air purifiers. The power consumption of this device is just 2.1 to 3 watts, which can be negligible.
If you run Sharp IG-EX20 for 8 hours per day, you only need to pay $0.7 each year. I recommend to run it 24/7 for maximum performance.

Sharp IG-EX20 Additional Features
Sharp IG-EX20 Customer Service
Sharp is a huge brand, of course they are. But this brand is not as popular in the U.S market as it is in the rest of the world. Yes, marketing is one aspect of this unpopularity, but it also implies a difficulty in finding the good customer service if you live in the United States.
But don’t worry, as the U.S subsidiary of Sharp is quite active to hear from you. You can reach them toll free at 800-237-4277, or via email through their “Product Support” page. They are available for you 24/7, and this is one of the best parts for Sharp’s Customer Service.
However, for their air purifiers, they only provide an 1-year-warranty. For most situations, I believe this warranty is enough to cover your device.
This is the first only ionizer product from Sharp. The Sharp IG-EX20 is a great product, but we need to wait for Sharp to officially release it on U.S market. Otherwise, we don’t get the support that we need from one of the biggest electronics manufacturers in the world.
An exclusive air ionizer that is safe to use.
