Stuck in the middle with a whole lot of Sharp series air purifiers, the Sharp KC-H50-W may get lost in crowd. It’s a solid, if simple Plasmacluster air purifier which doesn’t have anything to really shout about, but it has the casters that aren’t included in the Sharp KC-B50. So, let’s read our Sharp KC-H50-W Review before deciding which Sharp air purifier to buy.
Updated: If you want an air purifier with stronger performance, you should look for the Sharp KC-F70-W. However, I recommend you to get the Sharp KC-850U or Sharp KC-860U to be covered by Sharp’s warranty in U.S.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We do give honest reviews (both pros and cons) so anyone will guarantee to have the wisest choices.
- We do not (and never) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.
- High-quality air filtration system
- Great humidifying system
- Has casters
- Very silent
- Not from official US Sharp store
- Low fan power
Sharp may not be the popular brand in the United States, but this company is an electronics giant not only in Japan inland, but also the whole Asia region. Air purifier is truly the strength of this long-standing company, with their HEPA technology being used by lots of other big air purifier corporations, for example Levoit and Levoit (and many more). Today, with our Sharp KC-H50-W Review, we will take a look at a very popular air purifier for domestic market.
Sharp KC-H50-W Price
This air purifier, again, is in the same product line as the Sharp KC-850U, using a humidification function to support the main air purifier feature. It shows that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a good hybrid Sharp air purifier. It’s good value and has all the basics covered.
While the Sharp KC-860U is rightly getting a lot of attention, Sharp has also crafted new air purifiers for those who can’t afford or can’t justify the cost of its flagships. The Sharp KC-H50-W is something like this, with the affordable price tag of $325, which is just like a new Sharp FP-F60UW.
For what you pay, you can now get the Oreck Air Refresh or Boneco H300 instead. Both of them only serves the inferior HEPA-type air filter, so I think the Sharp KC-H50-W is still the better option in terms of air purifying efficiency. If you are looking for higher performance, the Sharp KC-B50 and Sharp KC-F70-W are certainly worth your money.

Sharp KC-H50-W Design and Size
Out of all of Sharp’s air purifier with humidifying function, the Sharp KC-H50-W has the best mobility. It has 4 casters so you can move the air purifier anywhere in your home.
It is a little shorter than the Sharp KC-B50 with only 24 inches in height, and narrower with 16 inches in width. Sharp KC-H50-W keeps the same design language as other native air purifiers, with brushed rays on the surface of the body, instead of the normal diamond shape.
Round the back you will find the air inlet grill, for a simple bottom-to-top air flow system concept. This Sharp KC-H50-W raises the LCD display over the top control panel, and hides the air outlet behind. If you are familiar with the Winix HR1000, you will like this design of Sharp KC-H50-W.
Sharp air purifiers are normally heavy, and the Sharp KC-H50-W is not an exception with 17 lbs. You should appreciate the casters, because it helps you move the air purifier from room to room easily.

Sharp KC-H50-W Filters
Again, we have a simple yet high-quality 3-stage air filtration system from the Sharp KC-H50-W.
- Activated Carbon Filter – It helps reduce the pet odors and smoke, as well as some common household chemicals.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter that captures 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns particles like pollen, dust, pet dander, smoke, germs, bacteria, viruses, odors, mold, and fungus.
- Plasmacluster Technology – This technology is one kind of ionizer, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.
Again, Sharp introduces the superior air filters for the price. For example, you get a honeycombed carbon filter, which increases the efficiency of trapping odors and chemicals a lot more than the normal carbon sheet. And don’t forget the powerful HEPA filter, which can last for 2 years in the condition of U.S environment.
Moreover, we have the signature Plasmacluster technology. Just like other Sharp air purifiers, the Japanese Awarded technology can emit both positive and negative ions into the air, to form hydroxyls that decompose the protein and suppressing activity of the viruses. This technology can even remove static electricity.
To help you compare the performance of this Sharp KC-H50-W with its brothers, I gathered all Sharp air purifiers with humidifier function, and tested in the same area of 200 square feet. The Sharp KC-H50-U turned out to be even better than the Sharp KC-850U, which costs a bit higher.
You can use the Sharp air filter model FZ-D50HF for the Sharp KC-H50-W, thanks to our convenient deal below.

Sharp KC-H50-W Room Coverage
Sharp KC-H50-W is only recommended for a room of 260 square feet, as the ion density of this air purifier is just 7000/cm³. Sadly, Sharp doesn’t release the best air purifiers to U.S market, so we should satisfy with the basic air purifiers like Sharp KC-H50-W.
The ACH of Sharp KC-H50-W is 4X. This air purifier can clean your room every 15 minutes.

Sharp KC-H50-W Sound
Sharp is a company cares a lot about the quiet operation, because their air purifiers are mainly for personal use. The Sharp KC-H50-W is a symbol in keeping noise level as low as possible, reaching only 20 decibels (db) on lowest speed. Yes, this is just the noise of the rustling leaves.
More impressively, the highest noise level is just 52 decibels, and you won’t be disturbed from such noise. Perhaps there is only the Sharp KC-B50 can be better in terms of the silence.

Sharp KC-H50-W Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review how much energy this air purifier will consume.
If you run Sharp KC-H50-W for 8 hours per day, you need to pay $20 each year.

Sharp KC-H50-W Additional Features
Being a fairly affordable air purifier, however, the Sharp KC-H50-W is still in mid-range segment, so it needs to pack the Smart Sensor – a feature to track not only the air quality index, but also the temperature and humidity level of your room. In addition, the Auto Mode of Sharp KC-H50-W can adjust the fan automatically to match the environment’s needs.
For one thing, you get a Sleep Mode, to dim all lights and keep the fan speed on lowest. It is convenient to be used in bedroom, though you can turn it anywhere if you don’t want to be disturbed.
Sharp KC-H50-W has a filter indicator, to remind you when to change the HEPA filter.
Sharp KC-H50-W Customer Service
Sharp is a huge brand, of course they are. But this brand is not as popular in the U.S market as it is in the rest of the world. Yes, marketing is one aspect of this unpopularity, but it also implies a difficulty in finding the good customer service if you live in the United States.
But don’t worry, as the U.S subsidiary of Sharp is quite active to hear from you. You can reach them toll free at 800-237-4277, or via email through their “Product Support” page. They are available for you 24/7, and this is one of the best parts for Sharp’s Customer Service.
However, for their air purifiers, they only provide an 1-year-warranty. For most situations, I believe this warranty is enough to cover your device.
For any imported products like Sharp IG-EX20, Sharp KC-F70-W, Sharp KC-B50 and Sharp KC-H50-W, however, you don’t get any support from this company.
Again, I must warn you that the Sharp KC-H50-W is designed for Japan only, so you can’t find any English manual for this air purifier. Also, it comes with a 100V output, and you need a power adapter to change the output for this air purifier. The device also has lower performance than Sharp KC-B50 and Sharp KC-F70-W, so I recommend you to get these air purifiers instead, as the price isn’t much different.
The air purifier is good, but not that great to be a must-have item in your home.
