Of all the new tower air purifiers made by Honeywell, the Honeywell HPA175 could be the least appealing. It isn’t the most powerful air purifier for the price, even among its siblings, and it doesn’t have smart features like the Honeywell HPA180. So, why should you buy this air purifier? Let’s find out in our Honeywell HPA175 Review.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We provide honest reviews (both pros and cons) so that everyone can make the best decisions.
- We do not (and never will) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.

- Performance is behind the competition
- Not as good as Honeywell console air purifiers
Honeywell is an American multinational and Fortune 100 company that was founded in 1906. The next-gen tower air purifier from the company is the Honeywell HPA180, but the Honeywell HPA175 does a good job of urging people to buy the smart product. Know why? Let’s find out in our Honeywell HPA175 Review.
Other Honeywell’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Honeywell HPA175 Price
Unlike the relationship between the Honeywell HPA075 and Honeywell HPA080, the Honeywell HPA175 serves as a hookup for the newer Honeywell HPA180. Why? It asks for the same price as the smarter version, and Honeywell’s marketing strategy works well, as it doesn’t even mention the Honeywell HPA175 on its website.
The Honeywell HPA175 can be found for $189, the same price as its smarter version. However, the Honeywell HPA180 receives such a big discount that it’s much more appealing for its price. The Honeywell HPA175, well, doesn’t.
Its starting price is nearly the same as the Honeywell HPA160, and you can buy the Honeywell HPA030B for the same performance at a cheaper price. Unless you really like the tower air purifier concept, the Honeywell HPA5100 and Honeywell HPA5200 do better jobs at keeping prices low.
Well, the Honeywell HPA175 should be far from the competition, too, as you can get better products with smart features like the Levoit Core 300S, Winix 5500-2, Airmega 150 or TCL Breeva A5. Even Guardian Technologies, the closest competitor of Honeywell, makes good air purifiers like the GermGuardian AP5800W.
You should think of the Honeywell HPA175 as a reason to buy the Honeywell HPA180, nothing more. And that’s why it doesn’t serve the same purpose as the HPA075.

Honeywell HPA175 Design and Size
Honeywell HPA175’s design resembles the Honeywell HPA180 on all fronts, just as the Honeywell HPA075 copies the Honeywell HPA080, only with a different top control panel. You can think of this air purifier as a taller HPA075 because that’s the whole point of describing the HPA175.
At the new price of the Honeywell HPA180, we can think that Honeywell does not mess around with its budget air purifiers. However, the Honeywell HPA175 costs even more than the Honeywell HPA5200, and such a design isn’t an advantage anymore. I still value the design, which is more premium than, said, the Honeywell HPA160. It feels like a modern air purifier.
Honeywell HPA175 keeps the same back-to-front airflow system concept that we used to know from tower air purifiers, which are used by many American air purifiers from Honeywell and Guardian Technologies. The old airflow system aims the airflow directly at its users, but it has limitations in terms of proper placement as well as being a hindrance to its fan power.
For size, the Honeywell HPA175 can match any tower air purifier competitor at 29 inches in height. Other dimensions are the same as the HPA075. With its size, the Honeywell HPA175 needs a larger air filter than the HPA075, just like the Honeywell HPA030B.
The Honeywell HPA175 has a touch control panel, and it feels more modern. However, Honeywell doesn’t use numbers for indicating fan speeds; it uses symbols as below.

The Honeywell HPA175 weighs 17 lbs, and for its height, I wish we had double handles on both sides.

Honeywell HPA175 Filters
Honeywell HPA175 does the same as the compact tower Honeywell HPA075 with its new 3-stage air cleaning system.
- Pre-filter – The pre-filter is a carbon filter. This will both help adsorb VOCs, gases, and odors and trap larger particles. You will need to replace this filter after 3 months of usage.
- Optional Activated Carbon filter – A honeycombed carbon filter is specially formulated for customization.
- HRFTK1: Formulated with potassium permanganate and activated carbon for faster odor adsorption and reduction.
- HRFTS1: Formulated with treated activated carbon for smoke and odor adsorption.
- HRFTS1: Formulated with activated carbon and zeolite for pet odor adsorption.
- True HEPA filter – The Honeywell HPA175 uses a True HEPA filter to capture up to 99.97% of down to 0.3 microns contaminant particles like pet dander, mold, viruses, bacteria and pollen.
Honeywell continues to implement the developed air filter for newer products, which is reasonable for a big and reliable air filter manufacturer. It can mass produce the air filter, which cuts cost and avoids stocking.

Honeywell HPA175 has decent performance for its price, cleaning 99.7% of all airborne particles down to 0.3 microns, in 150 square feet and 1 hour. It is not as good as the Filtrete FAP-T03BA-G2, Bissell air220 and Airmega 150, but it is really close.
You will need the pre-filter A and HEPA filter G (HRF-G2) for this Honeywell HPA175, which costs around $45. With bigger size, the Honeywell HPA175 needs 2 filters G (HRF-G1), so you should make sure to buy the right quantity.

Honeywell HPA175 Room Coverage
The Honeywell HPA175 is also verified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), just like its brothers. Its exact suggested room size is 200 square feet, which is okay for 5 times air changes per hour.
The ACH of Honeywell HPA175 is 5x. So to say, the Honeywell HPA175 will clean your suggested room size 5 times per hour.
The CADR of Honeywell HPA175 is 128 Dust/ 132 Smoke/ 151 Pollen (cfm). It has better fan power than the old compact models of Honeywell, like the Honeywell HPA030B and Honeywell HPA160. However, it is nowhere near the fan power of the Honeywell HPA5200, which costs less.

Honeywell HPA175 Sound
Honeywell HPA175, even with higher fan power, has similar noise level as the compact air purifier Honeywell HPA075 or Honeywell HPA080. Its lowest noise level is only 30 decibels, which is as quiet as a whisper.
On highest speed, the noise level is only 55 decibels (dB), and it is tolerable for most case scenarios.

Honeywell HPA175 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, we need to run an air purifier for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criterion to review to determine if this air purifier is good or not.
Honeywell HPA175 has a better CADR per watt rating than its smaller brother, at 2.4 points. The power consumption of this Honeywell HPA175 is only 55 watts.
On almost every day of using the Honeywell HPA175 for at least 8 hours, it would cost you up to $20 per year.

Honeywell HPA175 Additional Features
Honeywell has separated two models for its new compact air purifier, and the Honeywell HPA175 is the non-smart version, so you shouldn’t expect any additional features from this air purifier. If you’d like your air purifier to have Smart Sensor, look for the new Honeywell HPA180.
There is a LED indicator for filter replacement, as usual, to remind you when to replace the air filter. Be sure to reset the indicator after that.

Honeywell HPA175 Customer Service
Honeywell is a market leader in air purifiers, but its customer service is not as friendly as that of competitors. You can reach customer service via the mailbox at the Honeywell Store at 407 N. Quentin Road, Palatine, Illinois. But I suggest you call 847-701-3038 for any support questions. Or you can email sales@honeywellstore.com for any problems you experience while on the site or after buying a product. Honeywell is available from Monday to Friday.
It doesn’t have free shipping like Rabbit Air or Alen, and you must notify customer service within one business day of any problems with a third-party shipping service like USPS or FedEx. Otherwise, it will not accept liability for any merchandise damage during transit. Also, the shipment can take up to 10 business days from the date that the order is shipped.
The hardest part is when you want to return one Honeywell air purifier, as you only have 30 days from the date you receive your item to process your return. If there is no transit damage or workmanship defects, you won’t receive the shipping charge (on both the original shipping charge and the return shipping charge) and will have to pay a 10–30% re-stocking fee.
Honeywell’s warranty policy is also among the longest in the industry, with up to 5 years of coverage.

Our verdict
Honeywell HPA175 is just a marketing tool to sell the Honeywell HPA180, and it doesn’t need flashy smart features, as well as discount to be appealing. So, unless its price is as low as the Honeywell HPA030B, there is no reason to get it.
