The Dayton 2HPC3 is a neat tower air purifier from Dayton, and in fact, this is the best tower air purifier you can get from this brand. It can keep your room pure and clean with some necessary upgrades in the product, but for the price, is it good to go for? Let’s find out in our Dayton 2HPC3 Review.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We do give honest reviews (both pros and cons) so anyone will guarantee to have the wisest choices.
- We do not (and never) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.
- Quiet operation
- Decent air filtration system
- Convenient remote control
- Very low fan power
- Drops behind the competition
Dayton released their most powerful tower air purifier – the Dayton 2HPC3 to compete in the entry-level of mid-range segment. It is expected to be the very suitable competitor with the Honeywell AirGenius 4 and Honeywell AirGenius 5. Let’s follow our Dayton 2HPC3 Review to compare these native American tower air purifiers.
Other Dayton’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Dayton 2HPC3 Price
The Dayton 2HPC3 is a final tower air purifier of this company, to compete with the rising of the modern air purifiers, which are mainly the Honeywell AirGenius 4 and Honeywell AirGenius 5. But thanks to the release of the Honeywell AirGenius 6, we can see the drop in the price of all Honeywell tower air purifiers.
It’s worth mentioning that the Dayton 2HPC3 doesn’t follow the pricing strategy of Honeywell closely, and if you are sensitive to the price, the Dayton 2HPC3 will lose for sure.
Well, the competition is getting harder with the attendance of GermGuardian with their army of budget tower air purifiers. All of the tower air purifiers from this U.S company are stronger than our today Dayton 2HPC3, while a lot cheaper.
Dayton 2HPC3 comes with an official price tag of $241, and I must confess that it is too much for an old air purifier model. It isn’t helpful for a large room, and its fan power is too weak to justify the price.
So, just like any Dayton review, I recommend to look for the alternatives. For the price, you can buy a Honeywell HPA300 or Blue Pure 211 with much better performance. It is also the budget for the Oreck Air Response Medium, Bissell air400, Medify MA-40 or Vornado PCO300, which are all for air cleaning in large rooms.
If you still long for the tower air purifier design, besides the Honeywell air purifiers, you can look for the Oransi Finn, which is also from an American brand, specializing in making air purifiers only.

Dayton 2HPC3 Design and Size
Discreet is a word you would use to describe the Dayton 2HPC3. In fact, it is just a common tower air purifier, which doesn’t much resemble the old Dayton 2KXN9 and Dayton 2HPE1. And for that, Dayton approached the design of this Dayton 2HPC3 in a very different way from the unique Dayton 2HPB8.
This tower air purifier isn’t compact anymore, as the height of the Dayton 2HPC3 is 26.75 inches, and the width is 10.25 inches. It isn’t as tall as the GermGuardian air purifier, but Dayton 2HPC3 uses a larger base. Problem is, the Dayton 2HPC3 is meant for using in large rooms, but its performance can’t reach such level.
Available in only traditional gray color option, the Dayton 2HPC3 is obviously made of plastic. With such hulk size, this Dayton 2HPC3 will be heavier than any Dayton air purifiers I made review of. Its weight is 17.6 lbs, and the handle isn’t as convenient as the previous Dayton models.
It still runs the old front-to-back air flow system concept, with the air inlet with large grills. Certainly, this design of Dayton 2HPC3 is outdated, and I consider it a big minus for the Dayton flagship tower air purifier.
Perhaps, the only good thing I can say for the design of Dayton 2HPC3 is its neat control panel. It is also simple to read and monitor.

Dayton 2HPC3 Filters
Dayton 2HPC3 is described with only 2-stage air cleaning system on Grainger website, but actually it bears a similar 3-stage air cleaning system just like the Dayton 2HPB8.
- Pre-filter – A layer of pre-filter to remove large particles.
- HEPA Carbon filter – A combination of both True HEPA filter and Activated Carbon filter, to trap 99.97% of any particles as small as 0.3 microns, like pollen, mold spores, pet dander, dust or dust mites. It can also adsorb odors and chemicals.
- Ionizer – Anions charge the pollutants back to the mechanical air filter. Can be switched on/off.
This Dayton 2HPC3 performs well in the same test with other Dayton air purifiers, in a room of 100 square feet. In fact, it can trap 99.9% of all particles down to 0.3 microns, thanks to its high-quality True HEPA filter. However, I must remind you that you can buy the Blue Pure 411 or Levoit Vista 200 at just 1/3 the price of this Dayton 2HPC3, to get the nearly similar performance.
Dayton 2HPC3 will use the new air filter: model 2HPD3 for the HEPA filter. This is also one of the most expensive air filters from this company, at the cost of $82. But it is really thick at nearly 4 inches, and I guess it can last much longer than the suggestion of 12 months from Dayton.

Dayton 2HPC3 Room Coverage
Again, we get a kinda wrong room coverage suggestion from Dayton, as the Dayton 2HPC3 can run in a room from 430 to 538 square feet, suggested by the manufacturer. For its fan power, I believe it is only suitable for room of 100 square feet.
The ACH of Dayton 2HPC3 is 1X to 3X.
The CADR of Dayton 2HPC3 is just 80 cfm in general. It is even lower than a lot of cheaper air purifiers. To help you imagine, such CADR rating is just half of the common Honeywell AirGenius 4 and Honeywell AirGenius 5, and these tower air purifiers are among the weakest fan power in this price range.

Dayton 2HPC3 Sound
But there is an undeniable advantage to get an air purifier with such low fan power, it can work well in bedroom. The Dayton 2HPC3 is famous for its whisper-quiet operation, as it can trim the noise level to only 30 decibels (db).
Actually, it is doesn’t matter because other competitors can run even quieter than our today unit on lowest speed. Well, low noise level could be an advantage of the Dayton 2HPC3, but it isn’t why you pay a lot for such a weak air purifier, right?

Dayton 2HPC3 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” because we need to run an air purifier for a constant long time, and power consumption is really a thing to consider.
Dayton 2HPC3 has a power consumption of 50 watts, which is average for such a huge tower air purifier. It isn’t rated as Energy Star, however, because its energy consumption doesn’t justify its weak fan power.
If you run the Dayton 2HPC3 for at least 8 hours per day, it would cost you only $18 each year.

Dayton 2HPC3 Additional Features
Dayton 2HPC3, just like its previous brothers, comes with a remote control. The aim of the game is for the Dayton 2HPC3 to change the fan speed anywhere, which is much more reliable than the Wi-Fi Enabled Connectivity feature. And it is rare to get an air purifier with such simple additional feature, so the Dayton 2HPC3 really shines with its own remote control.
It has an OPEN button to help you remove the front plate, and make air filter installment much easier. Finally, you have a basic Timer setting, to schedule the time off after 2, 4 or 8 hours.
If you really love the Smart Sensor, which is necessary for smart controlling the air purifier, it is available in almost all of the other air purifiers in this price range. The Wi-Fi Enabled Connectivity feature is also available in some products, like the Blueair Sense+ or Honeywell HPA250B.
Dayton 2HPC3 Customer Service
The Dayton products are now distributed by the W. W. Grainger Inc only, so actually, you won’t get proper support if you buy from other vendors. You should contact Grainger at 800-472-4643, or live chat with them online to ask more questions.
So far, Grainger offers 1-year warranty for all products sold by them. If you get a Dayton air purifier from other source (for example our deal), you won’t be covered with this warranty.
Again, I don’t recommend to buy any Dayton air purifier, and this time, it is also difficult to get a Dayton 2HPC3, because this model is so out of the competition.
- Cleaning Power
- Power Consumption
A big no-no from Dayton.
