It is a new air purifier, and at the moment you can’t get as much for your money as the Coway AP-1512HHS previously did. Is it an appealing air purifier? Coway AIRMEGA 240 Price

There’s no doubt that the Coway Airmega 240 gives you an air purifier that’s great value for money, because that’s how the Airmega 150 does in the low-range segment of the market.

But this Airmega 240 still asks for more than what the Coway AP-1512HH previously asked, and it isn’t particularly widely available. You can buy one for $269; perhaps the best place to pick it up is Amazon.

As usual with Coway air purifiers, you can easily pick them up in the local stores in the U.S. The air purifier is just another design concept of the Airmega 230, which I’ve covered in a review recently.

The Airmega 240 is still in the same price range as the Blue Pure 311 Auto, Levoit Core 600S, Winix 9800 and Airthereal AGH550. That’s stiff competition, with all of them being in our recommendation for the best air purifier.

However, the Airmega 240 provides a good design, and the company can reduce the price in the future so it will be more competitive. At the moment, perhaps the Coway AP-1512HHS is the best air purifier Coway offers for the low-range market.

Coway AIRMEGA 240 Design and Size

With its new front air outlet design, the Airmega 240 feels different from its twin brother, the Airmega 230. It is the same as the Airmega 160, so if you jump here from the previous review, you can completely skip this section.

It’s all plastic, of course, but it’s nicely done plastic, and it feels more premium than the rest of the competition. The Airmega 240’s size is exactly the same as its twin brother’s: 22.8 x 16.7 x 8.3 in. It is small enough to fit your kitchen table, and the design is suitable to match any decor.

I have the white version that was sent to us for our review, but you can also pick up this air purifier in gray as well, which is a bit more eye-catching. For anyone who loves a stylish and modern air purifier, certainly they can go for both new Airmega air purifiers.

I should also mention the new all-in-one air filter of the Airmega 240, which is well-designed to prevent the dusty mess inside the cabin. It is also easier whenever you need to replace the new air filter, something that Coway learned from the high-end Airmega 300 and Airmega 400.

You get the same bottom-to-top airflow system concept, which is the most common airflow direction at the moment. We have the same top control panel as the Airmega 230, too, and the buttons feel nicely done and pressed.

Coway AIRMEGA 240 Filters

By checking the amount of air filters and the types of air filters used, we can guess a part of an air purifier’s performance of cleaning indoor air. The Airmega 240 features a very traditional two-stage air filtration system.

1. Pre-filter – An extractor-type washable pre-filter will help you capture the large particles of contaminants, such as pet hair, human hair, and mold. It is easy to remove, so you can maintain your unit easily. Slide out, rinse, and hang to dry.
2. Max2 filter – Combining both an Activated Carbon filter and a True HEPA filter, this filter can capture up to 99.97% of airborne particles smaller than 0.3 microns. The HEPA filter adds antimicrobial treatment to prevent mold, bacteria, and viruses.

It isn’t the hype to get a Max2 air filter in the lower range of budgets; the Airmega 230 nailed it previously. However, the new air filter captures the most important essence of the old air filter and adds an antibacterial treatment to reduce the growth of mold spores and bacteria inside the HEPA filter.

The Airmega 240 has an identical result to the Airmega 230, which reduces 99.95% of airborne particles down to 0.3 microns in a 200-sq-ft test for 1 hour. Such performance is as good as the Blue Pure 211+ and is better than many popular air purifiers like the GermGuardian AC5109W, Filtrete FAP-ST02 and Bissell air320.

Since the result is no different, I’m too lazy to make another chart for this Airmega 240.

However, again, the new Max2 air filter of the Airmega 240 costs more than the Coway AP-1512HHS in the same price range, at $84 for only 1 year before it needs replacing. One more reason for its lower ranking with the stablemate.

Coway AIRMEGA 240 Room Coverage

Airmega 240 is a very suitable air purifier for cleaning medium or even large rooms. The air purifier is tested by the Energy Star to have room coverage of 488 square feet, and it can even clean rooms up to 975 square feet.

The ACH of Coway Airmega 240 is 4X. With this air changes per hour rating, the Airmega 240 can clean your room every 15 minutes. If you need to clean a 975-sq-ft room, the Airmega 240 can only clean your room twice per hour, or every 30 minutes.

The CADR of Coway Airmega 240 is 292 Dust/ 260 Smoke/ 343 Pollen (cfm). The CADR of the Airmega 240 is better than the Coway AP-1512HHS, resulting in it cleaning a bit quicker.

Coway AIRMEGA 240 Sound

Airmega air purifiers are designed to stay quiet on the lowest speed, which is suitable when you’re sensitive to noise. The Coway Airmega 240 isn’t an exception, with the lowest noise level of only 21 decibels (dB). On the lowest speed, it is even quieter than the previous Airmega 160.

Even at the highest speed, the noise level of the Airmega 240 seems to be lower than that of the Coway AP-1512HH, which was the best air purifier for bedroom on Breathe Quality at only 51 decibels. It is very impressive for an air purifier with a higher CADR rating but a lower noise level.

Coway AIRMEGA 240 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifiers must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criterion for reviewing how much energy this air purifier will consume.

The Airmega 240 is another Energy Star air purifier from the Coway lineup, so it features exceptional low energy consumption. The power consumption of this Airmega 230 is only 60 watts.

If you’re going to use the Coway Airmega 240 for 8 hours per day, you only need to pay $22 per year.

Coway AIRMEGA 240 Additional Features

The Airmega 240 is at the same level as the Coway AP-1512HHS, but it doesn’t include a Wi-Fi capability feature. It does, however, feature a dust air sensor, which changes the fan speed according to the air quality. Real-time monitoring keeps you informed of the status of your air quality, and you can also turn off the light if you need to sleep.

You can adjust the air sensor sensitivity up to 3 levels. The higher the value, the more active its air sensor will be in responding to changes in the air quality index. The Coway Airmega 240 has a timer feature that can be selected between 1, 4, and 8 hours.

Finally, we have LED indicators for filter replacement. This feature will keep reminding you when to change the filter for optimal performance.

Our verdict

As another design for the Airmega 230, you can’t expect any possible differences from the previous review. However, I must emphasize that the newer air purifier is more stylish, and if you like its gray color option, the Airmega 240 is the only option.
