It’s easy to forget, but just a few years ago it looked as if Envion, or Holmes or even Bionaire would take over the world of air purifiers. These companies have established more air purifiers than any other brands, with products in many of local stores for customers to choose.

They don’t follow the trend to sell the products well on Amazon at the moment, and with the air purifiers having only HEPA-type instead of True HEPA filter, Envion isn’t a good buy for long. The brand is now just a subsidiary of the Swiss company Boneco, ending the legacy of one old air purifier brand.

The Envion Therapure TPP220 is the first of the family’s second generation, following up by the Envion Therapure TPP230 and Envion Therapure TPP240. Its price is also the most affordable, with only $99 in the official website. It is also pricier than the entry-level of Ionic Pro Series – Envion Ionic Pro CA200. Also, if you want the newest model, you should look for the Envion Therapure TPP620, which is the sixth generation (the TPP220 is the second generation).

With double the price of both predecessors – Therapure EA150 and Therapure TPP100, the Envion Therapure TPP220 sets itself in a more aggressive competition. The new releases of Levoit Core 300 and Levoit Vista 200 are the most anticipated ones right now, and you can’t ignore the AeraMax 100 or PureZone with the same price. More or less, there is no reason to buy the Envion Therapure TPP220 at the moment, but it’s your choice, and our mission is to give you the best deal as possible.

Envion Therapure TPP220 Design and Size

Now Envion is back, and back in a big way. The Envion Therapure TPP220 is really a colorful product, and you can select from not two, but six different color options. It is a lot better than the first Envion Therapure TPP50, which has only 2 color options. You can get your hand on the Black, White, Blue, Green, Orange and Red. Here is a deal on the White model.

The Envion Therapure TPP220 is a chunky monobloc device but weighing in at just over 6.4 lbs, is actually much more manageable than many other air purifier rivals. It also keeps its dimensions trim with the height of only 16.9 inches and the width of 9.4 inches, being similar to a compact Blue Pure 411.

This air purifier will have a new back-to-front air flow system concept, to match the new tower design. The air inlet grill is also where you find the locking latch, to unlock and open the air purifier for filter replacement. The front air outlet is made of large grills, and I believe that Envion is happy to settle down on this concept.

Envion Therapure TPP220 also uses the knob to change the fan speeds. We will have one button to turn on the UV lamp, as well as another indicator to tell us if the UV light is on. The front light on indicator makes the whole air purifier beautiful to use at night.

Envion Therapure TPP220 Filters

Like I said earlier, the Envion Therapure TPP220 is indeed a combination of both Therapure TPP50 and Therapure TPP100 in terms of air filtration system. It adds a new photocatalyst filter, which is a process occurring when the light source interacts with the pollutants. With TiO₂ aid, the photocatalyst filter can decompose the pollutants like gases or VOCs with relatively low cost, and high chemical stability.

I’ve finished a test for the whole family of Envion, and as you can see, the performance of the Envion Therapure TPP220 is the lowest. It is quite reasonable for the most affordable product, as well as the lowest fan power. The test was conducted in a room of 150 square feet, and under 1 hour.

The HEPA-type air filter from Envion Therapure TPP220 is said to be permanent, and you mustn’t wash the air filter by any means. Instead, you should vacuum and clean it with a slightly damp cloth. I’ve found a deal for the HEPA-type air filter, just in case you need for replacement.

Envion Therapure TPP220 Sound

When running an air purifier with higher fan power, Envion shows clearly many inferior engineering level. The higher fan power from Envion Therapure TPP220 makes a rattling noise, and I’ve received a lot of negative reviews for the loud noise from our today unit.

I’ve measured the noise level of this Envion Therapure TPP220 to be in range of 48 to 60 decibels (db), which is really loud for an air purifier with such low performance. If you are sensitive to the sound, you shouldn’t use the Envion Therapure TPP220 in your bedroom.

Envion Therapure TPP220 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” because we need to run an air purifier for a constant long time, and power consumption is really a thing to consider.

The power consumption of Envion Therapure TPP220 is 35 watts, with an additional 3 watts for the UV lamp. This is one great selling point for this air purifier, because you will never worry about the energy bill using it.

If you love the additional features, I guess you must change to SilverOnyx, AeraMax 100 or Biota Bot MM108, as they all have the most necessary high-end feature – the Smart Sensor.

You want such feature on an Envion product? Then you must pay for $150 more to have the flagship Envion Therapure TPP640. But is it worth such investment?

Our verdict

The Envion Therapure TPP220 is a good start for a serious air purifier of Envion, but it doesn’t give enough value for the actual money, so we can’t recommend using this device at the moment. Whether you want a true performance or you love the fancy features, the Envion Therapure TPP220 is not the one for you.
