Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020 Price
In the world of the air purifiers, the performance rating is still the most concerned realm, above everything else. We choose an air purifier product, and hope that it can clean even the slightest impurities from the air, and leave only fresh air for us.
Therefore, it’s not what your air purifier looks like, it’s how the device is able to clean, and what is the performance rating. This trend towards the adding more air filtration layers or ionizer into the system, while complying with the standards set forth by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for being safe to use.
People have the taste of the NanoCaptur technology to kill 99.99% of formaldehyde, still need a bigger product than the Rowenta PU4020, something that is able to deal with larger rooms. Now here’s the Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020, and right at its name, it indicates for a bigger size. And this Rowenta PU6020 also costs much, up to $299 in some online retailers.
In fact, scratch that: with the possible exception of the Rowenta PU3040, our today reviewed Rowenta PU6020 is the flagship of the German company, full stop with Intense Pure Air technology.
It’s evident in the spec sheet alone. With this air purifier, Rowenta brought their air purifiers to specification parity with their rivals like Vornado PCO300, Bissell air400 or Oransi Finn. It’s since been topped by the likes of the Medify MA-40 and Airthereal AGH550.

Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020 Design and Size
There’s that word again. Big. Even for a tower air purifier concept, the German Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020 lives up to its name, and it is big in every way. You get an air purifier with 29.5 inches in height and 15 inches in width, meaning it is bigger than many air purifiers in the same price range: GermGuardian AC9400W, Oreck Air Response Large or Airthereal AGH550.
Initially, the Rowenta PU6020 looks easily similar to its compact brother – the Rowenta PU4020. You can see the signs of German style in this air purifier like strong and practical design, combining with large base and firm seal. An air purifier is designed for the strength, not for catching any eyes.
That’s not to say that I don’t like the design of Rowenta PU6020. Let’s be straight, this air purifier is too big for most general users, so you should make sure to use it for a large room.
Rowenta PU6020 has a simple bottom-to-top air flow system concept, with the air intake behind the front plate. On the top, we have a stylish air outlet, with wavy grills. You can adjust the position of the air outlet grill manually. Rowenta recommends to set the angle to 45° for optimum performance, and 90° for maximum performance.
This air purifier remains the old control panel from its little brother, but in my opinion, this is a good and simple control panel to use.
And yes, the most important part. The Rowenta PU6020 weighs just 16.5 lbs, which is quite lightweight for its size. There is an integrated handle to help you lift it anywhere in your home.

Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020 Filters
As with every other Rowenta device, the Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020 is proud to introduce the exclusive 4-stage air filtration system of the German company.
- Pre-filter – A washable pre-filter traps the larger objects of pollutants like fur, hair and large dust.
- Activated Carbon filter – The honeycombed carbon filter catches odors, gases and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
- True HEPA filter – With the True HEPA filter, this air purifier can capture 99.95% of as small as 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles.
- NanoCaptur filter – This exclusive patented filter can permanently destroy formaldehyde, at rate of 99.99%.
After 10 years of researching in a French lab, Rowenta finally invented the NanoCaptur technology, which can kill 99.99% of formaldehyde, permanently. This mechanical air filter consists of many minuscule granules made of nanoporous materials. Inside these pores, it is coated with probe molecules, which chemically react with formaldehyde, resulting in a permanent destruction.
According to Rowenta, this technology is much better than the active carbon filter, as it destroys the formaldehyde instead of just trapping it. You can even see if it works, because the chemical reaction causes the yellow granules inside the filter turn to brown. Moreover, there is a color chart on the filter to help you understand when to change the air filter.
Talking about the raw performance, I tested the Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020U2, together with the Trusens Z-3000, Vornado PCO375DC, Bissell air320 and Oransi OV200, in the same room size of 150 square feet. As you can see, all Rowenta air purifiers came with high efficiency, with our today reviewed Rowenta PU6020 scored 99.93% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns.
Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020 uses a powerful HEPA air purifier, which can last for 3 years, and the filter costs only $35, meaning this air purifier has one of the lowest annual filter cost. Also, the carbon filter of this Rowenta PU6020 is just only $26, and you need to replace it after 1 year.

The CADR of Rowenta PU6020 is 164 Dust/ 155 Smoke/ 194 Pollen (cfm). Though the Rowenta PU6020 is recommended for a smaller room coverage than its brothers, it actually has a slightly better performance for trapping larger particles (pollen), from 5 to 11 microns in size.

Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020 Sound
It’s a little surprising that, despite the bigger size and higher fan power, Rowenta PU6020 features a quiet-operation, though obviously it is not exceptional like its compact brother. You get the lowest noise level to be just only 28 decibels (db) – below the noise level of the whisper.
Once you switch to the highest fan speed, the noise level of Rowenta PU6020 reaches 52 decibels. This is just like your normal conversation at home.

Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.
As an Energy Star air purifier, the Rowenta PU6020 is quite energy-consuming with the rated power of 80 watts. It costs double more than the Rowenta PU4020.

Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020 Additional Features
You won’t find yourself lacking for additional features in this flagship Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020. It got Smart Sensor, of course, and the Air Quality Monitor is easy to read. I also find the Auto Mode quite accurate, which quickly adjusts fan speed to the highest if it detects critical polluted air in my room.
There is one main difference for the Smart Sensor of Rowenta PU6020, as you can change its setting. If you want the air purifier to run more often in one specific fan speed, you can set the sensitivity at your will. In addition, the Rowenta PU6020 has both dust and gas sensors, so it can detect even ultra-fine particles, for more accurate report.
Night Mode is supported, so you can adjust the fan speed for a whisper-quiet air flow, as well as reduce the light intensity. Also, you can manually dim the light with the Dimmer setting.
Rowenta PU6020 still features a basic Timer, to turn off the unit after 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours. Now we have LED indicators for both HEPA and carbon filters, to remind you when to replace the air filters.

The Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020 is a trailblazing air purifier that forges a path for the NanoCaptur technology to be more realistic in true high-end territory. And what a swath this oversized air purifier cuts – it’s huge.
However, despite of the mind-blowing air filtration technology, the Rowenta Intense Pure Air XL PU6020 just introduces a weak fan power, only for a medium room size. It is a lot smaller than the standard room size of an U.S household, and for its cost, we demand better.
Still, there’s no denying that this is one of the most capable Rowenta air purifiers yet, with a mechanical 100% ozone-free air purifying system and a lot of good additional features.
Great device, but it still need a little boost.
