Oreck was founded by David Oreck in 1963 – the time when there aren’t so many air purifier companies with high-value products in North America market. The Oreck Air Response Large may be not the flagship at the moment, but it still poses the highest value for the price in the whole Oreck family, with a lot of positive reviews on Amazon. Let’s see if it’s worth your money or not, in our today Oreck Air Response Large Review.
Other Oreck’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Oreck Air Response Large Price
The Oreck Air Response attempts to be one of the first mid-range devices to bring a high fan power to the market, and that’s impressive considering the price point at the moment.
Well, with only $229 at the lowest point, $40 off from the launching price, the Oreck Air Response Large is now only a low-range air purifier, as it costs only $50 higher than the previous model – Oreck Air Response Medium. You can get a more attractive deal if you follow our link below.
Oreck has previously blown us away with what they can put in cheaper device like Oreck Air Response Small, with quality air filter and accurate Smart Sensor, and the Oreck Air Response Large has made another leap forward by upgrading the fan power. It is now on par with the top dogs like Coway AP-1512HH, AIRMEGA 200M or Winix 5500-2.
However, it is still in a difficult competition, as other air purifier companies are doing their best to win. You can consider between the AeraMax 300, Honeywell HPA300 or Winix AM90 with such low-range price. And honestly, they all perform better than air Oreck air purifiers.

Oreck Air Response Large Design and Size
Oreck has stuck with a similar design approach for the more expensive Oreck Air Response Large. That means you will get a Oreck Air Response Medium with bigger size, with dimensions of 21 inches in height and 17 inches in width.
That means the Oreck Air Response Large looks like an unibody air purifier, thanks to the silver color and (thankfully non-reflective) front cover plate. You can’t see any space for the air inlet, of course.
Looking on top, you will find an air outlet, as well as the signature air quality indicator bar and control panel of the Air Response series.
For a bigger air purifier, you should expect a weight of 14 lbs. The Oreck Air Response Large is only 2 lbs heavier than the Oreck Airvantage, though.

Oreck Air Response Large Filters
To decide the performance of one air purifier, normally we will check the quality and quantity of air filters, as well as the air filter types. In this Oreck Air Response Large, again, there is a 3-stage air cleaning system as below.
- Activated Carbon filter – Oreck Air Response Large has an Odor filter to remove unwanted odors from the air.
- HEPA filter – The main HEPA media filter can capture 99% of any particles down to 0.3 microns like pollen, dust mites, allergens, pet dander, and cooking smoke.
Unlike the Oreck AirInstinct and Oreck Airvantage, the Oreck Air Response series only makes use of the weaker HEPA media filter. With lower-level air filter, this air purifier can’t reach the high efficiency as real True HEPA filter.
The Oreck Air Response Large is tested in a room of 200 square feet, in the same duration of 1 hour like other air purifiers. I used the Biota Bot MM208, Medify MA-40 and Inofia PM1539 to compare with the performance of our today air purifier. Again, the Oreck Air Response has the lowest efficiency, due to no True HEPA filter, with only 99.8% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns in size.
To get the filter replacement of Oreck Air Response Large, you should look for the Oreck genuine air filter named AK46002, with the price of $37. You need to replace the filter every 12 months for optimal performance.
The filter kit of this Oreck Air Response Medium is labeled AK46001, and it costs you $27, for up to 12 months of protection.

The Oreck Air Response Large, right as its name implies, is suitable for large room cleaning. Its room coverage is up to 310 square feet.
The ACH of Oreck Air Response Large is 4X. So to say, the air purifier can clean your room every 15 minutes.

Oreck Air Response Large Sound
To achieve such high fan power, the Oreck Air Response Large must sacrifice the quiet operation, especially when Oreck doesn’t invent any new technology to change the rotor power.
You will experience the noise level of only 30 decibels (db) on lowest speed. Such noise level equals to the whisper only, so you won’t notice any sound at all. However, if you run the device on highest speed, the Oreck Air Response Large can reach 55 decibels (db), which is a bit higher than the previous Oreck Air Response Medium.
But don’t worry, the Oreck Air Response Large has a great dust sensor, to keep it always on lowest speed, and reduce the overall noise.

Oreck Air Response Large Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” because we need to run an air purifier for a constant long time, and power consumption is really a thing to consider.
The power consumption of this Oreck Air Response Large has increased to 96 watts. This certainly isn’t the best energy-saving air purifier, but considering among the Oreck family, it is one of the few with Energy Star rating. However, the CADR/watt rate of this Oreck Air Response Large is certainly the smallest.
If you run the Oreck Air Response Large for 8 hours per day, you will need to pay $34 each year.

From the first Oreck Air Response Small, we will see the introduction of Smart Sensor in an Oreck air purifier. It also gives the real-time feedback in the air quality indicator bar.
Like previous models, Oreck Air Response Large still has basic functions like Timer and Light Dimmer option. Finally, you will get two LED indicators for filter replacement, to help you change both HEPA and Odor filters.
