Instead of straying from the pack, the LG PuriCare AS401VSA0 blends in with this year’s fleet of flagships. But that’s not such a bad thing. It even takes cues from the flagship LG PuriCare AS560DWR0 and LG PuriCare AS330DWR0, evolving the color-coded LED system for Air Quality Monitor.

So, the LG PuriCare AS401VSA0 is the Round Console air purifier of LG, and with nice design, it feels like a decor than a home appliance. A simple leg makes the device look like a ‘Q’ letter, and the body comes with many concentric circles. The center is the Air Quality Monitor, and I really like the lighting color from LG devices.

The LG PuriCare AS401VSA0 is the Silver version of the Round Console air purifier. There is a gold version, name AS401VGA1 with similar specs. Overall, I prefer my testing unit with Silver color option, as it is easier to blend with my home decors.

LG PuriCare AS401VSA0 uses the bottom-to-top air flow system concept, with the top air outlet around the curves. With the top air outlet, you can place the air purifier anywhere in your home.

The top control panel, however, is really simple to read and manage. It has an air quality index at the center, so you can actually know the status of your indoor air quality.

LG PuriCare AS401VSA0 is quite compact with only 17.7 inches in height and 18.5 inches in width. It is still bigger than the IQAir Atem or Molekule Air Mini, but it is more compact than the Dyson Pure Cool Me. The air purifier can be brought anywhere in your home, with the weight of 15.9 lbs.

LG, just like many South Korean air purifier brands like Coway or Winix, believes in the performance of actual mechanical filters. The LG PuriCare AS401VSA0 features a simple 3-stage air cleaning system as below.

1. Pre-filter – A permanent pre-filter will help you capture the large particles of contaminants, from pet hair, human hair and mold. It also prolongs the life time of other filters.
2. HEPA filter – The main HEPA filter that captures 99% of down to 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles.
3. Activated Carbon Filter – An odor and VOC filter reduces odors, smoke and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) like formaldehyde.

The LG PuriCare AS401VSA0 only uses a simple HEPA filter, and the company just said that it removes over 90% of airborne allergens. In real-world use, the performance is a bit better, so the LG PuriCare AS401VSA0 can clean 99.7% of any airborne particles down to 0.3 microns in our test of 200 square feet. However, such performance was lower than the Rowenta PU6020, Rowenta PU3040, Coway AP-1512HH or Honeywell HPA8350.

You will need the filter AAFTVT130 for this LG PuriCare AS401VSA0. The filter is recommended to change every 4100 hours of use (approximately 12 months).
