It seems Guardian Technologies is ready to keep up with the new design of air purifiers by making all-in-one air filters, first in the GermGuardian AC4200, then following up with the GermGuardian AC4700 and GermGuardian AC4625. So, in our GermGuardian AC4700 Review, we’re looking at the smaller model (yes, I forget its name).
Update: If you don’t mind the old design, the GermGuardian AC4825 offers better performance for an even lower price tag.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We provide honest reviews (both pros and cons) so that everyone can make the best decisions.
- We do not (and never will) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.
- New design, new taste
- Great UV-C light filter for competition
- Smaller design
- 3-year warranty
- Still lacks additional features
Guardian Technologies was one of these names when you’re looking for a new air purifier in the past, but the company seems to have forgotten the low-range segment market for too long. The GermGuardian AC4200 and its direct bigger brother – our today GermGuardian AC4700, are the late devices to keep up with the hasty competition. Let’s take a look at it in our GermGuardian AC4700 Review today.
Other GermGuardian’s Air Purifier Reviews:
GermGuardian AC4700 Price
GermGuardian’s AC4700 continues to impress with its low cost, something that reminds you of a traditional GermGuardian air purifier. Still, it differs from the rest of the competition with its patented and powerful UV-C light filter, a trait that, again, reminds you this is a GermGuardian air purifier.
After the release of the GermGuardian AC4200, we’re eager to expect more air purifiers from Guardian Technologies that don’t share the old design. It is for the best, as the traditional GermGuardian’s back-to-front airflow system concept can hinder its fan power and therefore hinder its performance.
GermGuardian AC4700 still doesn’t care about additional features, just like its brother, and that means its ranking isn’t as good as things like the Levoit Core 300, Blue Pure 411 Auto, or TCL Breeva A2. It doesn’t matter if you only care about the performance, and the GermGuardian AC4700 is still a solid option at $119, especially when you rarely find a good air purifier with a UV-C light filter at this price point. Perhaps the most notable competitor to this air purifier is the TruSens Z-1000.

GermGuardian AC4700 Design and Size
Modern GermGuardian air purifiers are more flashy than their old and traditional air purifiers, however. I mean, they’re stylish, but in a sensible, tasteful-but-discreet sort of way. You look at the GermGuardian AC4700 or even the previous GermGuardian AC4200 and say, “Hey, it isn’t a GermGuardian air purifier anymore.”
They’re certainly not ugly, but they’re not all that iconic as the GermGuardian AC4825 or GermGuardian AC5350B anymore. You get a fairly typical smartphone design when you buy a GermGuardian air purifier at the moment, but like I said earlier, it’s for the best.
The new design is meant to improve the GermGuardian AC4700’s fan power, as it has a 360° air inlet and a bottom-to-top airflow system concept. This would be the finest concept for such a cylindrical air purifier, to utilize the fan power to the maximum.
GermGuardian seems to be sticking with its new range of air purifiers with a white color option. The GermGuardian AC4700 is the only device with a matte black color option; however, you can buy the white version, the GermGuardian AC4711, to match your home’s decor.
The control panel is simple for a simple air purifier, and the GermGuardian AC4700 remains the power knob from its traditional models.
Another lightweight GermGuardian air purifier you can buy for your home is the GermGuardian AC4700, which weighs only 7.55 lbs.

GermGuardian AC4700 Filters
It seems the removal of the UV-C light filter from the GermGuardian AC4200 doesn’t make it a device of Guardian Technologies anymore. The GermGuardian AC4700 corrects such a mistake with a typical, traditional 3-stage air cleaning system in its all-in-one air filter.
- Pre-filter – Using an Activated Carbon filter, this layer of air filter can remove the majority of large pollutants and reduce odors caused by smoke, cooking, and pets.
- True HEPA filter – GermGuardian AC4700 makes use of a True HEPA filter to capture 99.97% of microscopic allergens, dust, and mold spores down to 0.3 microns in size.
- UV-C light filter – The UV-C light helps to reduce germs, bacteria, and mold spores.
GermGuardian AC4700 uses the latest 3.5-watt UV-C light bulb to reduce airborne bacteria, viruses, and mold spores and works with titanium dioxide to reduce volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This is also the bulb you’re using in the GermGuardian GG1000 pluggable air sanitizer.
Again, we get the performance of a True HEPA filter that is verified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM). In a room of 100 square feet, the GermGuardian AC4700 can clean 99.9% of any particles down to 0.3 microns in just 1 hour. That’s also the result of the Medify MA-14, and it’s better than the Envion Allergy Pro.
We need to use the brand new air filter for this new air purifier – the FLT4700 filter M. Again, you need to replace the filter after 6 or 8 months, and the cost of this air filter is still affordable at $34.

GermGuardian AC4700 Room Coverage
The GermGuardian AC4700 is sitting comfortably in the low-range market, so its room coverage isn’t going to make any eyes pop, but it’s a decent enough spec at this price point, according to the AHAM. It is appropriate for rooms up to 150 square feet in size, making it slightly smaller than its tower siblings, GermGuardian AC4300BPTCA and GermGuardian AC4825.
The ACH of GermGuardian AC4700 is 4X. Even for a compact air purifier, Guardian Technologies enhances the fan to let it exchange air in your room 4 times per hour.
The CADR of GermGuardian AC4700 is 106 Dust/ 97 Smoke/ 106 pollen (cfm). This CADR rating is for both black and white models of the GermGuardian AC4700.

GermGuardian AC4700 Sound
GermGuardian’s AC4700 does one thing better than its older brothers: it has been marketed with “ultra-quiet operation.” This bedroom air purifier has a noise level of 35 decibels at the lowest and 54 decibels at the highest. So far, so standard; it is certainly not the best air purifier for quiet operation, but it won’t disturb you on the lowest fan speed.
In other words, you’re getting the results you’d expect from a low-range compact air purifier.

GermGuardian AC4700 Power Consumption
To be one of the best air purifiers, a device must strictly pass our Breathe Quality test after long-term use. Also, one of the most frequently asked questions in Breathe Quality is: “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” We can all agree that power consumption is one important criterion to review to determine if this air purifier is worth your money or not.
The GermGuardian AC4700, together with its siblings, is an Energy Star air purifier, and it is actually better than either the GermGuardian AC4300BPTCA or the GermGuardian AC4825 in terms of CADR per watt point. The air purifier uses 55 watts at its highest speed.
For using a GermGuardian AC4700 for 8 hours per day, it would cost you $20 per year.

GermGuardian AC4700 Additional Features
If you thought Guardian Technologies was moving on to better extra features with the release of the GermGuardian CDAP5500BCA or the most recent budget GermGuardian AC4200, you’ll be disappointed with the GermGuardian AC4700.
To put it another way, there is no timer and no nightlight. You will have a LED indicator for filter replacement, and that’s all.
GermGuardian AC4700 Customer Service
There is not much to say about the brilliant support from Guardian Technologies’ customer service. Anyone can get active support from the American brand. The company also makes the instruction manuals available online to help you answer common questions on your own. But if you can’t find a solution, just contact customer service via phone at 866-603-5900 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Just like any other brand, the office will be open from Monday to Friday.
Guardian Technologies occasionally offers free shipping as well as a significant discount on all products (typically 10% to 20%). Whenever you find the air purifiers are not as great as you had thought, you can return them within 30 days of your original receipt of the order. And don’t worry about the warranty policy of Guardian Technologies, as it warrants its products to be free of defects in materials or workmanship. You can register for a warranty for up to five years.
For the GermGuardian AC4700, you will have a 3-year warranty.
This is another popular GermGuardian air purifier that you will want to buy if you require an UV-C light filter, but you will wish that other brands did the same with more features.
