If you don’t need a portable, on-the-go device like the GermGuardian AC085, you could look for a portable plug-in air purifier like the GermGuardian AC225W. It isn’t particularly strong, owing to its small size, but it is unique in that it provides a super compact device suitable for very small spaces such as your bathroom and toilet. Let’s check it out in our GermGuardian AC225W Review.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We provide honest reviews (both pros and cons) so that everyone can make the best decisions.
- We do not (and never will) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.
- Portable, suitable for very small places
- Still has mechanical filter
- Performance is very low for the price
Guardian Technologies is one of the best brands for pluggable air purifiers, and the GermGuardian AC225W is a device with a mechanical filter, unlike its siblings, the GermGuardian GG1000 or GG1100. In our GermGuardian AC225W Review, we will finally see if it’s worth the money.
Other GermGuardian’s Air Purifier Reviews:
GermGuardian AC225W Price
GermGuardian AC225W is one of many pluggable air purifiers that have specialized in pluggable design and are suitable for very small places like laundry rooms, pet spaces, or bathrooms. It also aids other air purifiers in eliminating odors, thanks to its patented GermGuardian carbon filter.
It is an upgraded version of the original PureGuardian AP201 with a replaceable UV-C light bulb. You can easily forget about the GermGuardian AC225W by plugging it into a wall outlet. It previously asked for a low price of $59. However, with the launch of many compact air purifiers with high performance, including its own sibling, the GermGuardian AC4175, buying a GermGuardian AC225W is only appropriate when you don’t have enough space.
It can be bought directly from our below deal, and because I’ve never tried other plug-in air purifiers, it’s hard to recommend anything else.

GermGuardian AC225W Design and Size
There’s not too much to say about the design of the GermGuardian AC225W, as it’s super compact to fit the wall outlet, and I never find the device easy to slip out of my office’s outlet. It looks and feels like a Wi-Fi modem on the wall, at 7 inches in height. The unit weighs only 1.05 lbs.
The GermGuardian AC225W seems to be similar to the PureGuardian AP201, but you should note that we haven’t had a chance to test the PureGuardian model yet. However, I make the temporary assumption that both share the same design, performance, and annual cost, so if you want a cheaper device, you can get it below.
It enhances the traditional GermGuardian airflow system concept with a front-to-side airflow system. The concept is suitable for its own design, but such a system will limit its own fan power. The result is that you will feel a light breeze from the air outlets. That is the reason Guardian Technologies doesn’t send these pluggable units to the AHAM for verification.
The air purifier is really simple, with only one power switch. GermGuardian AC225W has a nightlight on top, and it can be turned on and off with a single switch on top. It is quite convenient for the users.
On the bottom of the GermGuardian AC225W, there is a replaceable aroma pad. It is a good additional feature, especially when the air purifier is mainly used in pet rooms or bathrooms.

GermGuardian AC225W Filters
The GermGuardian AC225W does have a mechanical filter inside, which makes it interesting enough for us to buy one and make a review. It does have a 2-in-1 air-cleaning system inside.
- Activated Carbon filter – The allergen filter can capture airborne particles, and its carbon components can adsorb odors. The filter isn’t washable.
- UV-C Light – The UV-C light helps to reduce germs, bacteria and mold spores.
Again, we’re surprised that such a compact unit as the GermGuardian AC225W is able to store a mechanical filter inside. It isn’t a HEPA filter, though, so I will choose either the GermGuardian AC085 or the Pure Enrichment PureZone Mini over this device for serious air purification.
We will use the filter Q or FLT200 for this GermGuardian AC225W, and you need to change the filter every 3 months. Guardian Technologies sells a set of 4 filters, so you only need to buy another after 1 year.

GermGuardian AC225W Room Coverage
The GermGuardian AC225W isn’t verified by the AHAM, and it’s quite difficult to test the CADR rating of this air purifier. It would be 5 cfm at best.

GermGuardian AC225W Sound
For a silent operation, the GermGuardian AC225W nails it. It has a low noise level of around 42 decibels (dB), so you won’t notice that it’s on. You may argue it’s still noisier than other common air purifiers on the lowest setting, but still, it’s nothing to worry about.

GermGuardian AC225W Power Consumption
To be one of the best air purifiers, a device must strictly pass our Breathe Quality test after long-term use. Also, one of the most frequently asked questions in Breathe Quality is, “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” We can all agree that power consumption is one important criterion to review to determine if this air purifier is worth your money or not.
The GermGuardian AC225W has a 2-watt UV-C light bulb, for a total of 5 watts. If you run this air purifier for 8 hours, you will only need to pay $1.7 annually.

GermGuardian AC225W Additional Features
For a plug-in air purifier like the GermGuardian AC225W, it has many additional features than you would expect. The GermGuardian AC225W has a nightlight feature, so you can use it in dark places easily. The night light also acts as an indicator for filter replacement, so you don’t need to remember the date to change the filter.
Finally, there is an aroma pad, which helps remove the odors in the air.
GermGuardian AC225W Customer Service
There is not much to say about the brilliant support from Guardian Technologies’ customer service. Anyone can get active support from the American brand. The company also makes the instruction manuals available online to help you answer common questions on your own. But if you can’t find a solution, just contact customer service via phone at 866-603-5900 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Guardian Technologies occasionally offers free shipping as well as a significant discount on all products (typically 10% to 20%). And don’t worry about the warranty policy of Guardian Technologies, as it warrants its products to be free of defects in materials or workmanship. However, for the GermGuardian AC225W, you will only have a limited 1-year warranty.
Another interesting air purifier from Guardian Technologies However, make sure you really need it, because at $59, you can find a lot of better air purifiers for serious air purification than this GermGuardian AC225W.
