If you don’t need a portable on-the-go device like GermGuardian AC085, you could look for a portable pluggable air purifier like the GermGuardian AC225W. It isn’t strong, obviously for size, but it is one-of-its-kind for offering a super compact device which is suitable for very small places like your bathroom and toilet. Let’s check it out in our GermGuardian AC225W Review.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We do give honest reviews (both pros and cons) so anyone will guarantee to have the wisest choices.
- We do not (and never) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.
- Portable, suitable for very small places
- Still has mechanical filter
- Performance is very low for the price
Guardian Technologies is one of the best brands for pluggable air purifiers, with the GermGuardian AC225W is a device with mechanical filter, unlike its siblings GermGuardian GG1000 or GG1100. In our today GermGuardian AC225W Review, we will finally see if it’s worth the money.
Other GermGuardian’s Air Purifier Reviews:
GermGuardian AC225W Price
GermGuardian AC225W is one of many pluggable air purifiers that have specialized in pluggable design, suitable for very small places like laundry rooms, pet spaces, or bathrooms. It also aids other air purifiers in eliminating odor, thanks to its patented GermGuardian carbon filter.
It is the upgraded version of the original PureGuardian AP201 with replaceable UV-C light bulb. You can plug the GermGuardian AC225W into wall outlet and forget about it easily. It asked a small price in the past, at only $59. However, with the launch of many compact air purifiers with high performance, including of its own sibling GermGuardian AC4175, buying a GermGuardian AC225W is only proper when you don’t have enough space.
It can be bought directly from our below deal, and because I never try other pluggable air purifiers, it’s hard to recommend anything else.

GermGuardian AC225W Design and Size
Not too much to say about the design of the GermGuardian AC225W, as it’s super compact to fit the wall outlet, and I never find the device easy to slip out of my office’s outlet. It looks and feels like a Wi-Fi modem on wall, at 7 inches in height. The unit weighs only 1.05 lbs.
The GermGuardian AC225W seems to be similar to the PureGuardian AP201, but you should note that we haven’t had chance to test the PureGuardian model yet. However, I make a temporary assumption that both share the same design, performance and annual cost, so if you want a cheaper device, you can get it below.
It improves the traditional GermGuardian airflow to front-to-side air flow system concept. The concept is suitable for its own design, but such system will limit its own fan power. The result, you will feel a light breeze from the air outlets. That’s the reason why Guardian Technologies doesn’t send these pluggable units to be verified by the AHAM.
The air purifier is really simple with only one power switch. GermGuardian AC225W has a night light on top, and it can be turned on/off with a single switch on top. Quite convenient for the users.
The GermGuardian AC225W does have a replaceable aroma pad in the bottom of the unit. It is a good additional feature, especially when the air purifier is mainly used for pet places or bathrooms.

GermGuardian AC225W Filters
The GermGuardian AC225W does have a mechanical filter inside, which makes us interesting enough to buy one and make a review. It does have a 2-in-1 air cleaning system inside.
- Activated Carbon filter – The Allergen filter can capture airborne particles, and its carbon components can adsorb odors. The filter isn’t washable.
- UV-C Light – The UV-C light helps to reduce germs, bacteria and mold spores.
Again, we’re surprise as such a compact unit like the GermGuardian AC225W is able to store a mechanical filter inside. It isn’t HEPA filter, though, so I will choose either the GermGuardian AC085 or Pure Enrichment PureZone Mini over this device for serious air purification.
We will use the filter Q or FLT200 for this GermGuardian AC225W, and you need to change the filter every 3 months. Guardian Technologies sells a set of 4 filters, so you only need to buy another after 1 year.

GermGuardian AC225W Room Coverage
GermGuardian AC225W isn’t verified by the AHAM, and it’s quite difficult to test the CADR rating of this air purifier. It would be 5 cfm at best.

GermGuardian AC225W Sound
For the silent operation, the GermGuardian AC225W nails it. It has low noise level of around 42 decibels (db), which you won’t notice that it’s on. You may argue it’s still noisier than other common air purifiers on lowest setting, but still it’s nothing to worry about.

GermGuardian AC225W Power Consumption
To be one of the best air purifiers, one device must strictly pass our Breathe Quality test after a long time use. Also, one of the most asked questions in Breathe Quality is: “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. We can all agree that power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is worth your money or not.
The GermGuardian AC225W has a 2-watt UV-C light bulb, for a total of 5 watts. If you run this air purifier for 8 hours, you only need to pay $1.7 annually.

GermGuardian AC225W Additional Features
For a pluggable air purifier like the GermGuardian AC225W, it has many additional features than you would expect. The GermGuardian AC225W has a night light feature, so you can use it for dark places easily. The night light also acts as a indicator for filter replacement, so you don’t need to remember the date to change the filter.
Finally, there is an aroma pad, which helps remove the odors in the air.
GermGuardian AC225W Customer Service
There is not much to say about the brilliant support from Guardian Technologies’s customer service. The American brand is providing a very active support for anyone contacting them. They also put the Instruction Manuals online to help you solve the common questions by yourself. But if you can’t find a solution, just contact the customer service via phone at 866-603-5900 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Just like any other brands, they will be available for you from Monday to Friday.
They have occasional Free Shipping policy, as well as a great discount on all products (most popular 10% to 20%). Whenever you find their air purifiers not as great as you previously thought, you can return them within 30 days of your original receipt of the order. And don’t worry about the warranty policy of Guardian Technologies, as they warrant their products to be free of defects in materials or workmanship. You can register for a warranty in up to 3 years for the small devices, and up to 5 years for others.
However, for the GermGuardian AC4150 and GermGuardian AC4100, you will only have an 1-year warranty.
Another interesting air purifier from Guardian Technologies. However, make sure you really need it, because at $59 you can find a lot of better air purifiers for serious air purification than this GermGuardian AC225W.
A pluggable air purifier, the GermGuardian AC225W has many good things to fulfill its tasks.
