Airpura C700 Price

For that upgrade in high-quality adsorption, the Airpura C700 is certainly not cheap. At $1199, it is $200 higher than the base Airpura R700. But with only the Airpura C600 DLX available on stock, Airpura really wants to sell the Airpura C700 as the basic solution for “chemical”, because it is only $100 higher than the predecessor.

At $50 higher, you have the option of the Airpura C700 DLX, which is basically the upgraded version of the Airpura V700. We will talk about it later.

At its price range, the Airpura C700 far exceeds the Austin Air HealthMate Plus or Austin Air Bedroom Machine. The main competitors are the IQAir HealthPro Plus and IQAir HealthPro Compact, but it targets the same customers as the IQAir GC MultiGas.

I must say Airpura is very consistent at producing high-quality products with strong fan power. The Airpura C700 is mainly for people who need a solution for workplaces with heavy chemical exposure.

Airpura C700 Design and Size

The Airpura C700 is just another Airpura air purifier that you can’t easily distinguish from others by its exterior design. The “700” series is also very much alike from the “600” series, apart from the different control panel, so your newer Airpura C700 looks like the Airpura C600.

Those who are familiar with large-format carbon air purifiers from Airpura can tell the dimensions of the Airpura C700. It measures the same 23 inches tall and 15 inches wide as the V700, but tips the scales at 53 lbs. It is not a surprise, remember that the Airpura C700 has a bigger Activated carbon filter.

The perforated steel cabinet of the Airpura C700 draws air in from all 360° of the housing, just as other Airpura air purifiers. But here the similarity in airflow architecture starts to diverge internally. The 26-lb carbon bed sits in a 3-inch deep block – one inch deeper than the common 2-inch bed – which is why Airpura cannot fit a full True HEPA canister in the Airpura C700. The space is predominantly given over to carbon, and the particle stage is handled instead by a HEPA-Barrier post-filter rated at 95% efficiency down to 1 micron, rather than the 99.97% to 0.3 microns that a True HEPA delivers.

The Airpura C700 is also free of any plastic, rubber, silicone, or adhesives. The absence of these materials helps to reduce any off-gassing of chemical vapors, both within the clean air stream and in the unit’s end-of-life phase. It is the air purifier that is built from high-quality materials.

Airpura C700 Filters

When we evaluate an air purifier’s performance, the number of filters and the air filter types it uses can tell us a lot. The Airpura C700 uses the same 3-stage air cleaning system that’s established from the first Airpura C600.

1. Pre-filter – To protect the main filter, Airpura C700 uses a poly pre-filter, which can trap large particles such as dust and hair. It can be vacuumed clean and should be changed every 12 months.
2. Activated Carbon filter – The main reason to buy the Airpura C700 is because of the Activated Carbon filter, which can adsorb a variety of chemical pollutants, odors, and tobacco smoke from the air. It is a 26-lb carbon filter, which has bigger mass than a common Airpura carbon filter.
3. HEPA filter – Airpura C700 only uses a HEPA-Barrier filter, which has 95% efficient at removing any particles as small as 1 micron in size.

As I said earlier, the Airpura C700 and later, the Airpura T700, must sacrifice the HEPA filter to store a much bigger carbon filter. The result of the HEPA-type filter is significantly less than a common Airpura True HEPA filter at its H13 grade, rated at 95% efficiency down to 1 micron.

Instead, the Airpura C700 stands out with its 26-lb activated carbon filter. The 8-lb difference gives the Airpura C700 greater adsorption capacity, which increases filter lifespan. Still, Airpura only recommends replacing the carbon filter after two years, since its target customers typically use the Airpura C700 in high-chemical environments.

Larger carbon bed also means it handles sustained load of wildfire smokes quicker, and the air purifier is far more effective at trapping bigger odor volume. Buying the Airpura C700 DLX and you can get the 26-lb KI Coconut shell carbon, which is very effective for NO₂, SO₂ and asbestos, lead vapors – something that the normal carbon filter only has poor effect. In some way, I find the Airpura C700 DLX is a better solution than the Airpura V700, when you really need a solution for chemicals. If you value only the particles trapping performance, a Airpura R700 is enough.

All Airpura air purifiers are under the same test in Breathe Quality, with the same filter (we only test the True HEPA filter’s performance for the maximum effect of an Airpura air purifier). If you use the original Airpura C700, you will get inferior results.

The HEPA barrier filter of the Airpura C700 needs to be replaced much sooner. After one year, you must replace the HEPA filter, while the carbon filter lasts about two years. Because of that, the total replacement cost is quite high.

Airpura C700 Room Coverage

The manufacturer’s suggested room coverage for the Airpura C700, as well as other Airpura air purifiers, is 2500 square feet. As usual, Airpura doesn’t bring its air purifiers to AHAM for testing.

The ACH of Airpura C700 is 2X. Meaning it will clean the manufacturer’s suggested room size two times per hour, or every 30 minutes.

The CADR of Airpura C700 is 635 cfm in general. Airpura air purifiers are currently the highest fan power ones on the market.

Airpura C700 Sound

Just like the Airpura V700, the Airpura C700 is marketed as the “quietest units now on the market”. It is quite special for these two units as they have lowest fan speed’s noise level at 28 decibels (dB) – slightly less than a regular Airpura air purifier like the Airpura R700.

At the highest speed, the Airpura C700 reaches a noise level of 67 decibels, which is reasonable for an air purifier with such powerful airflow.

Airpura C700 Power Consumption

In Breathe Quality, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient, and therefore, power consumption is an important criteria to decide which air purifier to buy.

The Airpura C700 has a wattage power of 120 watts, similar to its predecessor – the Airpura C600. It is exceptional for Airpura to develop the successor with better performance per watt.

Airpura C700 Additional Features

Both the Airpura and Austin Air families are saying no to any kinds of additional features. It seems that the high-end air purifiers are mostly for air purification, not for some flashy features to show off. You shouldn’t be surprise if your Airpura C700 doesn’t have any additional features.

There won’t be even the filter replacement indicator or the Timer. There is only one manual switch to change the fan speed of this machine.
