There is not much incentive for using the Honeywell HPA3100 when the Honeywell HPA5100 is out, but if you’re looking to get the older unit for any reason, you should confidentially read our Honeywell HPA3100 Review.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We provide honest reviews (both pros and cons) so that everyone can make the best decisions.

Honeywell is a very popular air purifier brand name in the North American market, and its Honeywell HPA3100 is the bridge connecting between the original Honeywell HPA100 and the latest Honeywell HPA5100. So is it a good buy in terms of performance, features, and price? Let’s find out in our Honeywell HPA3100 Review.
Other Honeywell’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Honeywell HPA3100 Price
The Honeywell 3000 series, beginning with the Honeywell HPA3100, was the first to use the 3-stage air cleaning system, not the new 5000 series. The Honeywell HPA3100 and its brothers, the Honeywell HPA3200 and Honeywell HPA3300, went so under the radar that you can’t easily buy them at the moment.
The Honeywell HPA3100 is noteworthy in that, at the time of its release, it was the company’s cheapest console air purifier. You can find the Honeywell HPA3100 for only $135, and while we don’t expect the air purifier to be available again, the price is the ceiling for how much you should pay for it.
At the same price, you can consider the Honeywell HPA180 to get a Smart Sensor, or you can look for the Honeywell HPA5100 for an even cheaper price. You can also expect the old Honeywell HPA100 and tower Honeywell HPA030B by spending that much for the Honeywell HPA3100.
The Honeywell HPA3100 is in direct competition with things like the Levoit Core 300S and Blue Pure 411 Auto, and with a serious lack of both performance and features, I can’t recommend the Honeywell HPA3100. It is an old product, so unless you get the device from our deal, you won’t benefit from the 5-year warranty from Honeywell.

Honeywell HPA3100 Design and Size
The Honeywell HPA3100 has a different look from any of its predecessors. It’s still a standard console air purifier with nothing to commend, but the unit feels more modern and stylish than the Honeywell HPA100.
However, the Honeywell HPA3100 is relatively plain, with a black plastic finish. It isn’t as compact as the old HPA100, but it is smaller than the next-gen Honeywell HPA5100, if size is important to you. The air purifier has dimensions of 14 x 15 x 9 inches, and thanks to its horizontal air grills, I feel like the device is a bit thicker than the HPA5100.
You will get the same bottom-to-top airflow system concept on this Honeywell HPA3100, but the air inlet is wider than previous models, hinting at better fan power on the Honeywell HPA3100.
The top control panel of this Honeywell HPA3100 is redesigned, and it is quite similar to the current unit. It uses a touch panel instead of the classic mechanical control.

The Honeywell HPA3100 weighs 12.75 lbs, but without a proper handle, it is quite difficult to move the air purifier around your home.

Honeywell HPA3100 Filters
Actually, the Honeywell HPA3100 is the first Honeywell air purifier to use the current 3-stage air cleaning system. One optional air cleaning stage is the customizable Activated Carbon filter, which is specifically for dealing with wildfire smoke.
- Pre-filter – The pre-filter is a carbon filter. This will both help adsorb VOCs, gases, and odors and trap larger particles. You will need to replace this filter after 3 months of usage.
- Optional Activated Carbon filter – A honeycombed carbon filter is specially formulated for customization.
- HRFSK1: Formulated with potassium permanganate and activated carbon for faster odor adsorption and reduction.
- HRFSS1: Formulated with treated activated carbon for smoke and odor adsorption.
- HRFSP1: Formulated with activated carbon and zeolite for pet odor adsorption.
- HRFSC1: Formulated with pelletized activated carbon for VOCs adsorption.
- True HEPA filter – The Honeywell HPA3100 uses a True HEPA filter to capture up to 99.97% of down to 0.3 microns contaminant particles like pet dander, mold, viruses, bacteria and pollen.
Honeywell mass produces air filters for even its next-gen products, so the Honeywell HPA3100 is quite future-proof in terms of raw performance. The R filter will be used on the current Honeywell HPA5100 and perhaps even in its later generations.

The Honeywell HPA3100 did even better than the Honeywell HPA830 we previously tested, under the same conditions. It was as good as one of the best air purifiers at the moment, the Levoit Core 300S; and it bested its tower competitor – the GermGuardian CDAP4500BCA.
You only need to buy the first pack of filter R (HRF-R1) for this Honeywell HPA3100, as it is the smallest unit in its series. I recommend changing the air filter every 12 months.

Honeywell HPA3100 Room Coverage
Despite being an older version, the Honeywell HPA3100 is fully certified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) as being sufficient to clean a room of 200 square feet. In Breathe Quality, we give one point for performance for products with AHAM verification.
The ACH of Honeywell HPA3100 is 5x. All air purifiers verified by AHAM tests will clean a suggested room size 5 times per hour.
The CADR of Honeywell HPA3100 is 138 Dust/ 129 Smoke/ 145 Pollen (cfm).

Honeywell HPA3100 Sound
The Honeywell HPA3100 seems to use the same fan motor as the old Honeywell HPA100, but its new design doesn’t help reduce the noise level. Its lowest noise level is about 26 decibels (dB), which isn’t as good as the previous Honeywell HPA100. The Honeywell HPA3100 is still as quiet as a whisper, though.
On the highest speed, the noise level of the Honeywell HPA3100 is 54 decibels. The air purifier is quite decent for such a noise level, and it is similar to the noise of a refrigerator.

Honeywell HPA3100 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is, “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” This is because we need to run an air purifier for an extended period of time, and power consumption is something to consider.
The Honeywell HPA3100 is another Energy Star air purifier from this company, so it is as good as the newer Honeywell HPA5100 in terms of energy savings. The power consumption of this Honeywell HPA3100 is nearly the same at 52 watts.
If you plan to run the Honeywell HPA3100 for at least 8 hours per day, you need to pay up to $19 annually.

Honeywell HPA3100 Additional Features
The Honeywell HPA3100 doesn’t bring up the long-awaited Smart Sensor like its bigger brothers. Honeywell even keeps up the same setting for the newer Honeywell HPA5100, which significantly limits the competitiveness of the Honeywell HPA3100, especially when its asking price is a bit higher than previous models.
Other than that, it has the same features as the old HPA100, like a timer, auto dimmer setting, and a LED indicator for filter replacement. It isn’t much, but it can help you run it easier.

Honeywell HPA3100 Customer Service
Honeywell is a market leader in air purifiers, but its customer service is not as friendly as that of competitors. You can reach customer service via the mailbox at the Honeywell Store at 407 N. Quentin Road, Palatine, Illinois. But I suggest you call 847-701-3038 for any support questions. Or you can email sales@honeywellstore.com for any problems you experience while on the site or after buying a product. Honeywell is available from Monday to Friday.
It doesn’t have free shipping like Rabbit Air or Alen, and you must notify customer service within one business day of any problems with a third-party shipping service like USPS or FedEx. Otherwise, it will not accept liability for any merchandise damage during transit. Also, the shipment can take up to 10 business days from the date that the order is shipped.
The hardest part is when you want to return one Honeywell air purifier, as you only have 30 days from the date you receive your item to process your return. If there is no transit damage or workmanship defects, you won’t receive the shipping charge (on both the original shipping charge and the return shipping charge) and will have to pay a 10–30% re-stocking fee.
Honeywell’s warranty policy is also among the longest in the industry, with up to 5 years of coverage.

Our verdict
I am a bit late to review the Honeywell HPA3100, which is no longer suitable to buy as the newer Honeywell HPA5100 is, again, a redesigned model with the same performance. But, that’s the whole point. If you can get one Honeywell HPA3100 with full warranty, I guarantee that you won’t miss anything with it.
