Dayton 2HPB2 Price

Dayton’s faith has been placed in a device very much suited to a particular type of customer. The Dayton 2HPB2 is strong, so you could run it in a much larger room than any previous Dayton air purifiers, even the closest Dayton 2HPC3 or Dayton 2HPB8.

Dayton’s rectangle shape new flagship is here, and it’s just as big in real life as it is powerful. It will include the necessary Smart Sensor, which Dayton denied to implement in lower-range models. Problem is, that’s how they are away from the most aggressive competition.

It’s not a cheap air purifier, as the Dayton 2HPB2 starts at $449, and the Dayton 2HPB1 is (strangely) more expensive. So it’s 4 times the price of the first Dayton’s HEPA air purifier – the Dayton 2HPD4. All is for a bigger design, better fan power and stronger performance.

It’s meaning the Dayton 2HPB2 is up there with the top mid-range air purifiers, notably the Vornado PCO575DC, Oransi mod Jr, Oransi Max, Boneco P500 or Blueair Classic 280i. Also, you can find many Dyson flagships at the same cost, like the Dyson Pure Cool Link.

Dayton 2HPB2 Design and Size

Well, Dayton 2HPB2 is just as weird in real life as it looks in the promotional pictures. But it’s only for the very old Dayton users, because to enhance the performance, the Dayton 2HPB2 needs to sign for bigger size.

Both the Dayton 2HPB2 and Dayton 2HPB1 share the same design, and unless you check the top control panel, you can’t tell the difference between these models.

The biggest talking point about the Dayton 2HPB2 comes from its very big size, like I’ve mentioned earlier. It is 24.75 inches in height and 16.5 inches in width, in the shape of a console air purifier. Actually, I feel Dayton borrowed the idea from Winix‘s old models. You can check this design concept in the new models, too, for example Winix 5300-2 or Winix 5500-2.

So far, it’s up with a bottom-to-top air flow system concept. The outlet grill is separated from the front air inlet, so the fresh air flow won’t mess with the incoming polluted air.

Again, if you want to tell the Dayton 2HPB2 apart from the original 2HPB1 model, you should look at the control panel. It’s on front, which is unconventional in today models, but very common in old models.

Dayton 2HPB2 weighs 24.2 lbs, so it’s very heavy.

Dayton 2HPB2 Filters

Dayton 2HPB2 runs the most powerful Dayton air filtration system possible. Let’s take a look at the 5-stage air cleaning system, which started first with the Dayton 2HPE1.

1. Pre-filter – A layer of HEPA pre-filter to remove large and medium particles such as dust, pet hair, fur and lint.
2. Activated Carbon filter – The carbon filter of Dayton 2HBP2 is able to remove pet odors and cooking odors. It is attached with a TiO2 photocatalyst filter to work with UV bulb and remove formaldehyde, benzene and other Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
3. True HEPA filter – Eliminates 99.97% of any particles as small as 0.3 microns, like pollen, mold spores, pet dander, dust or dust mites.
4. UV light filter – The UV technology of Dayton is able to kill germs, bacteria and viruses.
5. Ionizer – Anions charge the pollutants back to the mechanical air filter. Can be switched on/off.

With thick HEPA filter, the Dayton 2HPB2 runs very well in a room of 200 square feet, as it can trap 99.93% of all particles down to 0.3 microns. That’s meaning it was stronger than both Oreck flagships: Oreck Air Response Turbo and Oreck AirInstinct 200.

However, if you want an air purifier with better performance in the same price range, I could recommend you a few others: Boneco P400, Alen BreatheSmart FIT50 or Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr.

Dayton 2HPB2 uses the latest and most powerful HEPA filter, model name 2HPB4, at the cost of $70. The filter can last 12 months, which is suitable for a mid-range air purifier.

Dayton 2HPB2 Room Coverage

Dayton 2HPB2 is recommended to run in a room from 645 to 861 square feet. It is quite insufficient for an air purifier with not so high fan power.

The ACH of Dayton 2HPB2 is 4X. The Dayton 2HPB2 can exchange the air in your room every 15 minutes.

The CADR of Dayton 2HPB2 is 197 cfm in general. It is quite competitive in this price range, but due to the increasing of air purifiers with high fan power in low-range segment, the Dayton 2HPB2 isn’t exceptional anymore.

Dayton 2HPB2 Sound

Stronger performance requires more powerful fan motor, and in turn, the air purifier will operate louder. In the case of Dayton 2HPB2, the noise level can be as high as 68 decibels (db), especially with the ionizer feature on.

That being said, the Dayton 2HPB2 is extremely noisy, and you can’t run it on highest speed while sleeping or working.

Dayton 2HPB2 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” because we need to run an air purifier for a constant long time, and power consumption is really a thing to consider.

Together with the loud fan, you will face another problem: the high power consumption of Dayton 2HPB2. At 120 watts, this air purifier costs at least 3 times than the Dayton 2HPB8.

If you run the Dayton 2HPB2 for at least 8 hours per day, it would cost you $43 each year.

Dayton 2HPB2 Additional Features

Finally, we get the convenient Smart Sensor in this Dayton 2HPB2. With both dust and odor sensors, this air purifier can automatically adjust fan speed based on current air quality status. It is able to keep the noise and power consumption down.

In fact, the Dayton 2HPB2 has a very low fan speed setting named Mute Mode. If you use this mode, the air purifier runs with virtually no sound.

Again, Dayton 2HPB2 comes with a remote control, so you can use it in any room in your house, office, or laboratory. It is equipped with a Timer setting, to schedule the time off after 2, 4 and 8 hours.

The Dayton products are now distributed by the W. W. Grainger Inc only, so actually, you won’t get proper support if you buy from other vendors. You should contact Grainger at 800-472-4643, or live chat with them online to ask more questions.

So far, Grainger offers 1-year warranty for all products sold by them. If you get a Dayton air purifier from other source (for example our deal), you won’t be covered with this warranty.

Our verdict

Dayton 2HPB2 is a good contender to compete in the mid-range segment. However, it is always out of stock, and it compensates too much for a stronger performance, therefore I don’t recommend this air purifier.
