The middle child of the AeraMax series of personal air purifiers, the AeraMax Baby DB55 is a bit of a mixed bag. Its flagship-inspired design is good to look at, but it misses out on the high fan power to be better than the AeraMax Baby DB5. As such, the air purifier doesn’t come across as a strong enough player in the category. Today, we will have the most trusted AeraMax Baby DB55 Review.
Update: As the AeraMax Baby DB55 appears to be fully sold out, I recommend properly checking our deal before reading this review, as the review itself is pretty lengthy.

AeraMax is the air purifier brand name of Fellowes, an American family business that has existed for more than 100 years and provides the most reliable air purifiers worldwide. As with the original version of the AeraMax 200, we can easily imagine how the AeraMax Baby DB55 works. But still, let’s check out our AeraMax Baby DB55 Review for an in-depth guide to this air purifier.

AeraMax Baby DB55 Price
The original AeraMax Baby DB55 is a good-looking device, with a large, white body, although we’re yet to be convinced by its high-end air filtration system inside.
It is low on stock now, so if you really fall in love with the color option, you should grab it quickly. Otherwise, you can look for the AeraMax 200 instead. The AeraMax Baby DB55 is also an upgrade of the first AeraMax Baby DB5, which doubles the suggested room size.
The official price tag of this AeraMax Baby DB55 is just $229. You are guaranteed to get a much better deal by following the below link.
This air purifier is having a stiff competition with the top ones like the Winix 5500-2, AIRMEGA 200M or the Coway AP-1512HH. It is also not much cheaper than the AeraMax 300, so does it offer enough value over AeraMax’s other offerings? It’s time to find out.

AeraMax Baby DB55 Design and Size
A quick design comparison of the AeraMax Baby DB55, AeraMax Baby DB5 and AeraMax 300.
AeraMax 200/190/DX55/Baby DB55 | AeraMax 100/90/DX5/Baby DB5 | AeraMax 300/290/DX95 | |
Height (inches) | 20.5 | 27.25 | 25 |
Width (inches) | 13 | 7.25 | 16 |
Depth (inches) | 7 | 8.5 | 8 |
Weight (lbs) | 9.9 | 9.24 | 13.5 |
The console air purifier AeraMax Baby DB55 is taking the same approach as the AeraMax 200, increasing the body’s size to hold a bigger fan as well as broader air filters. Commonly, it will increase the efficiency of the air filtration system.
With almost three consecutive launches of the middle personal air purifier series, AeraMax now has a clearly defined design language for this air purifier. The whole plastic device is 20.5 inches in height and 13 inches wide. It is shorter than the AeraMax 100 and Baby DB5, but a lot bigger.
It uses the bottom-to-top airflow system concept, just like common console air purifiers. The top air vent is painted white instead of black like in the AeraMax 200 and 190 versions.
The filter tray will be removed from the side of the AeraMax Baby DB55, making it easier to install and remove the filter. It also improves the aesthetic of the overall minimalist design concept.

The usual control panel can be found on the front, in the same direction as where you take out the filter tray.
AeraMax Baby DB55 weighs just 9.9 lbs, and you can pick it up simply with the convenient handle from the back.

AeraMax Baby DB55 Filters
When we decide to purchase an air purifier, we must first understand the filtration process and the various air filter types available. The AeraMax Baby DB55 uses the typical 4-stage air cleaning system from any AeraMax air purifier.
- Activated Carbon Filter – First, the AeraMax Baby DB55 uses an Activated Carbon filter to act as a pre-filter, and can capture both large particles and household odors, including pet odors, cooking odors, and cigarette smoke.
- True HEPA filter – Next, all airborne contaminants must rest in the True HEPA filter of this air purifier, which has a high efficiency of trapping 99.97% of any particles as small as 0.3 microns, like pollen, ragweed, and other allergens, viruses, germs, dust mites, mold spores, and pet dander.
- AeraSafe Antimicrobial Treatment – Its True HEPA filter’s built-in protection prevents the growth of odor-causing bacteria, mildew, and fungi.
- PlasmaTrue Technology – This is one kind of ionizer that creates an ionized field to safely remove airborne pollutants. Can be turned on or off.
The AeraMax Baby DB55 has an effective air filtration system that includes the company’s signature PlasmaTrue technology and a true HEPA filter with an anti-microbial treatment coating. Fellowes has done a good job making the in-house air filter with great efficiency, but this air purifier is too similar to its predecessor, the AeraMax Baby DB5. For a device that costs twice as much, we expect a lot more.
However, I must remind you that you don’t need to worry about the ionizer. AeraMax Baby DB55 is certified by both the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America as safe to use for infants and newborns. Also, you can turn off the PlasmaTrue feature to make the room 100% ozone-free.

Just like the previous model, I ran the same test for the AeraMax Baby DB55 as I did for the AeraMax 200. So, you can use the below result for the device because they are actually the same air purifier model. The device was tested against the Honeywell HPA200, Honeywell AirGenius 4 and Levoit LV-PUR131 to help you compare the device with air purifiers at the same price point. AeraMax Baby DB55, with its low fan power, had an efficiency of only 99.9%.
You need to change the filter every 12 months, at a cost of only $42. It is really cheap for a high-quality True HEPA filter with antimicrobial treatment, and I’m happy to use the AeraMax filter even in my DIY air purifiers.

The CADR of AeraMax Baby DB55 is 129 Dust/ 126 Smoke/ 124 Pollen (cfm). The CADR rating of this AeraMax Baby DB55 is even weaker than the Levoit LV-PUR131, so you can’t expect this air purifier to clean your room very fast.

AeraMax Baby DB55 Sound
Because the AeraMax Baby DB55 is an air purifier for a baby’s room and nursery, it must be quiet. So far, the noise level ranges from 35 to 55 decibels (dB), with the lowest speed being quieter than library mode. Even at the highest speed, the noise level is just like a normal conversation at home, and you won’t be annoyed by that sound.

AeraMax Baby DB55 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifiers must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criterion to determine if this air purifier is good or not.
The power consumption of the AeraMax Baby DB55 is only 6 to 58 watts, which is really good for a console air purifier. Just like the AeraMax 200, this air purifier is rated as an Energy Star air purifier.
If you use the AeraMax Baby DB55 for 8 hours per day, you need to pay $0.2 to $21 annually.

AeraMax Baby DB55 Additional Features
The AeraSmart technology, which is the Smart Sensor of the AeraMax Baby DB55, is still the most concerning additional feature up until now. It can adjust the fan speed accordingly to the environment’s needs, and it also gives feedback on the air quality display.
AeraMax Baby DB55 has a unique Aera+ Mode, which is the only button you need to increase the air turnover rate and clean your room much faster. This function is similar to the Turbo Mode of the Honeywell HPA200, or Quick Clean Mode of the Sharp FP-F50UW and Sharp FP-F60UW.
You will also have one filter replacement indicator to tell you exactly when you need to change your True HEPA filter.
